I loved that little piece actually. It made me want to play it twice as bad. If it gave a casual player who's not normally into mmorpg's that kind of feeling.. It must have the same magic feel oldschool UO did. Where when you log on the thought process isn't, "Ok I'm gonna go play this game to kill some time for a while", it's more like, "What kind of awesome stuff do I wanna do today?".

It seems like it'll be a great game even for a casual player. For example I could see my brother logging in and having a blast (he works almost non-stop), where-as in WoW he couldn't after a while because it was just a grindfest item-whore game.

In short, it sounds even more amazing than I previously thought!

For me personally this is one of the best "update" type things in a while!

Very nice one. But he told darkfall will be the wow killer. I don't think so. Because wow is for noobs, darkfall is not. Pro wow players will come to darkfall, as now they are unsatisfied with wow, but noobs will remain on wow...and i hope they will :D .

"I know Second Life nearly does that… Darkfall does it ten times better and gives you a feeling that youre part of something really fantastic."

That's quite a statement right there. He must have been very impressed.

Interesting that they got to play it; maybe nicer with some screenshots but can't complain as it shows the game still exists and is being worked on/approved by people who see it. (lucky &*!?#)

Nice update.

I'm not sure where to begin...

Uh, it's nice that this seemingly random guy (I assumed it was a guy, I guess I don't even know that much) had positive things to say about Darkfall. Certainly the alternative would've been, "bad." Ummm, thanks.

Do you think next week we could get an update where a random 12 year old girl visits the Aventurine Office and then writes on her blog, "It was cutetastic!" or something equally "positive" yet non-descript? Because that would be a great way to market the "ultimate game."

Btw, I think my negativity is more than understandable using the reasonable person standard. I'm actually a little embarassed by this being posted in the "news" section.

Again, the reasonable person standard should apply here...

He also said that Darkfall could be a WOW Killer. Really? A WOW Killer? When we consider that WOW has 7 million worldwide members, and Darkfall is currently planning to have ONE server (last we heard) that will support 10 thousand simultaneous members, that's really saying a lot. A lot about how this guy is either really stupid, or he's completely out of touch with the reality of the market.

Note that he also didn't mention playing WOW, he mentioned that he didn't play MOG's very much and when he did he liked to play Runescape. So while his experiences were positive, and I'm happy to hear that, I don't take much away from this "news" other than the fact that this is the most effort the devs were willing to put into the community for the last 2 weeks, and that they're comfortable having some guy that *I* haven't heard of compare Darkfall to the "ultimate game wow killer."

lol

So uh yeah... I want to know what they chatted about! :D

edit: Airius, I hear ya. But it's no different than before though, it's just a potentially overstated plug from some guy on his blog. If the guy's right, that's sweet. If he's not, then oh well.

It doesn't change anything about the status of the game, so <shrug>. Just a little blurb, probably not "news" worthy in the sense that it doesn't say anything about the game, but whatever. It's just an interesting post some guy made.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not jumping ship and saying Darkfall is doomed. I just have a hard time not calling this out. It's annoying to have something like this posted and see pages of people saying "W00T!" regardless of the actual content. Then when I take a step back and think about the overall message this sends to people that may be on the fence right now and are looking for more information about the game, this is the first news article they get to read. Some guy's blog and a bunch of fan boys mindlesses nodding their heads.

It's frustrating, and I've got it out of my system now. A spade has been called a spade. :)

Airius is right.. This was not really anything special, and as much as i can see he is also a friend of henning, so what? Or at least a fan of henning, he features henning site at least on it.

It is nice to hear something, but the complete content of this article was more or less:"Darkfall looks nice, and i play Runescap!".

If he could even tell what especially look nice.. the everything approach dont help a lot.. especially without screens or anything else to say more about it.

But however.. who cares.. i just wait a little bit longer for more and better news, or even the beta.

i smell a WoW lover! KILL HIM!! but seriously.. they said thats how they will start.. with one server.. and open more as needed.. im not saying it would kill wow.. but maybe fun and freedom will become contagous when some wow players see it.. maybe darkfall will take a big chunk.. most wow players only play it because its all they know.. maybe many will change when they see this is better

The impression that she was invited because of reputation, i.e. invited because she writes articles after an emotional blast; emotional-blast-writer that is useful for encouraging fans; would be called a prostitute of words and not a writer if they had existed. And it's made to be impressive on the person who reads it. And: a guy on this forum wrote an episodic story about infiltrating the developers work space, seeing them play the game and what not, all made up of course, to which this article without facts is then similar. The difference is that she who wrote it deserves no admiration at all from me, and the episodic made-up story does: because there are no facts, this is pure emotional crack-whore trip, and to write that the writer must have some connection with the game, else you write emotional to be commersial. Thus instead of admiration, this author deserves spite, since trying persons already have done this and are more merited to what they did. And I put in a sentence here: it's because they've no gain at all, but this guy has in some way. So it feels rude, that's my point, because there are no facts in it. And this had been fun had the game been in early development. My point is that it doesn't fit!

I'm going to have to agree with Airius, someone with alot more merit should have been brought in. Getting a point of view from someone who is hardly even a casual MMO player and plays an outdated game like Runescape basically saying, "omg, this game pwns, I would LIVE in this world!!" is probably something all MMO newcomers say when they get into the game for the first time or who currently play an MMO that sucks. What "tripple A" titles what he involved in? Hello Kitty Island Adventure? Hey guys, guess what? I myself am involved in Tripple A game titles. Cool eh? Check out my blog, not very deep detective work there. ;)

I'm not looking for a hands on, no-limits review. I'm a realist, it is what it is. That "article" has the same degree of speculation as these damn forums. I could've gotten any Darkfall "news" that has been cranked out for the past few months in 5 pages of General Discussion and the use of the search function.

Yah because he said he played runescape means he has never played any other MMO. There is also plenty of people who have played the new MMO's but gone back to the old ones UO, SB, etc. I agree for a deeper article than that, but I still wouldn't assume things about that writer.

Better something than nothing. Some more screens would have been nice, but an update is an update.

Although if Darkfall does have such a powerful impression on a casual gamer (of which the majority of WoW's player base is made of) that's good news for the developers.
