View Full Version : Player Siege Fun!

We witnessed some great fighting over Furghum last night on the EU server. It seemed the forces were very even, manpower wise, and the tactics used turned out to be a real challenge for both sides with ships coming into play as well as some sneaky flanking manoeuvres.

Sieges are always accompanied by PvP Talk before and after and this was no exception when it came to the banter and discussions in the Server related forum (http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=269550) regarding the moments leading up to the siege. However it seems that the aftermath was dominated by congratulations and "Good Game" and "Good Fights" on both sides. Despite the fact that there always has to be a winner and a not so lucky side during a siege everyone seemed to have had a lot of fun.

We were able to snag some screenshots during the siege which you can check out in the official Facebook gallery (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=27803&id=134645883249871). Go tag yourself!

Also, for future sieges or events: Please feel free to inform any of the Liaisons of interesting events we and the devs might like to attend incognito or ninja style. We are always looking for good opportunities to take screenshots and footage. This goes for both servers. We obviously can't promise to be at every single one but we will make an effort to snag some impressions if we can!

It was a great siege. Helped enormously by the conditions - carried out in prime time on a sunday evening, between two forces almost even in numbers, and even more importantly its the only siege I have taken part in which hasn't been ruined or influenced heavily by clans it has nothing to do with.

Especially on the last point (roamers), these conditions are rarer than a dragon cuirass from a chaos chest.

Great screens.

I noticed in your screens the new terrain textures don't 'fade' from you like they do for me. Which setting in the options controls that?

As far as I'm aware I have everything turned on/up, but I can't get the good looking terrain to extend more than 10 feet or so around me, and beyond that it switches to the more 'blurry' stuff.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

I don't have a great df pc, but they can be had for alot less money now. The main thing is fast hd and overclocked cpu. You can buy a box well under $1000 to run the game pretty well.

I had no FPS problems or lagg during the whole siege.

I got pretty much the same computer as the one who took these screens.

A computer I bought 2 years back for 800 euro, I have not re-installed it since then.

800 euro for a computer that handle DF good and will last for another 2 years is silly cheap.

I think people should upgrade their gear.

That's almost the exact same setup i had last year and i could barely pvp in a siege with a lot of people with settings on low-med and (ofc i had shadows off and shader 1_1). I remember having to look away from the bank when pvping in cities to get better fps and prevent my aim from getting messed up. Unless they show a video of them looking at dxdiag or w/e and then launching the game with playable fps and everythin maxed in a siege with THIS build, i'm not buying a word they say :)

The problem with siege performance is still the leaks, as when you restart your computer and log into the full battle you go from 1 fps to 100. Then it slowly starts deteriorating again.
At least thats my experience.

OK look at the technical forums and at the crap fps people are getting on low settings with much better rigs and then explain to me how they can play a siege with high settings and shadows with an old computer. Performance has gotten much worse since the beginning of EU. There have been patches including Hellfreeze that have continually made the performance worse. If these changes entail using different settings or a shittier computer alot of us would like to know what the deal is.

I agree the only thing PS1_1 is good for is seeing underwater. I think it looks like crap though. But still what about shadows and sounds and particle effects etc. that people are turning down or off just so they can play the game? How can the comp spec'd in this thread run a siege on the settings specified. What hard drive does it have? Is it that it is running 32bit and not 64? It doesn't seem to have much memory is it the type? I don'y know I was suggesting that they were lying about the computer spec; was just asking them maybe to explain how their game works and how we can get it to run right on our own computers again.

Processor > anything else. 3,0Ghz is quite decent. I had a 2,6Ghz on my old comp (no OC) and still managed to run sieged fairly okay(~20-40fps :p).

Now basically I upgraded my ram (4gb ddr2 to ddr3 4gb, had to change mobo and it didn't support ddr2). New processor (had dual core, now i5-760(quad core@2,8Ghz overclocked to 3,6Ghz). Seems the processor really makes the difference in Darkfall. Still using my same 3years old GFX Card (8800GT)

CPU makes a HUGE difference. Recently I upgraded the cpu on my 4-5 year old pc from a 2.5GHz to a 3.1GHz. I got a good 30-40fps boost with just that upgrade alone. I'm sure once I upgrade to ddr3, windows 7 64bit, and overclock my cpu to 3.5-4.0GHz in the year I'll be rocking DFO without any fps issues in or out of sieges.

The total cost overall to upgrade my pc to something able to run DFO well, should fall around the $300 range. Not to bad at all :)

That would be awesome to see a siege (something like ants running around on the ground) from far far above. Or seeing a city from above from angles that the players cannot see while people are pushing for the entrance or something during a siege.

Yes, CPU > other hardware for DFO. I think that is one of the only things everyone here on forumfall actually agrees on. :)

One thing to note about the CPU listed is that it is an Intel Core2 Duo model, which is not to be confused with the Intel Dual Core model. Those CPU's use different architectures, and have other features which could explain a lot. There's more to it than simply Ghz, or # of cores at work.

Last I checked a Core2 Duo CPU sells for roughly 3 times the price of what a Dual Core CPU with equal Ghz sells for, and is a fairly mid-high end chip for DFO requirements.

This. And who says that the client they use to fly around and go invis has the same lag issues that the regular client has? Their dev hax client could be completely different. They might be able to turn 3d sounds to 0 or something.

You do realize an Intel Core2 Duo at 3GHZ stock clock can be bought for around 80 to 100 bucks and is a couple of years old? They're not even sold regulary anymore and are by no means anything special but the major CPU type through 2006 to 2008/2009.

I really wonder what the "Intel Dual Core" CPU is supposed to be you mentioned.

tl;dr: Core 2 Duo is cheap & old.
