Im in year 11 and for my year 12 major i want to do a pencil drawing then do it up with photoshop to make it look almost realistic.
http://www.myspace.com/58229428 - some of my drawings
im just wondering is it possible to make drawings like mine realistic with photoshop, using colour and such? im thinking of sketching this massive battle scene, then doing it up with photoshop, ive got enough time to practice and mess around too.
or even better, is there some kind of tutorial?

Tutorials are only so usefull. I sugest using the blur tool on your pencil scketches that gives them a very smooth airbrushed or rendered look that yuou can add a base collor to and then add color on top of that.
I'll try and go find a tutorial anyway in case your not use to using photoshop.
Not the one I was looking for but he is still pretty close to what I was trying to find. http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2006/09/05-quick-sketch-in-photoshop/

now this is the photoshoped image of it, i coloured it with a pale red and pretty much just smudged the rest.
im finding it hard to get a realistic colour tone of skin.

Ha, found one of the best lighting/general stuff pages I've ever come across on the internet. Not likely to help a long time art major but for the rest of us this is some kickass stuff.

should help solve your skintone problem.
THe best thing about photoshop is you can just fuck with the colors till you get it close enough, go into the adjustment screen once your 90% done with the base color and mess with the levels to try and get more or less contrast out of it. This generally makes your lights and darks really pop out. then go to the select menue item and get a really fuzzy color select of your base layre and go hit the adjustments menue this time with the hue saturation controll( that pannel is rediculusly usefull if you suck at colors like I do.) Basicly just start hopping into the stuff that makes PS different from M$ paint those filters are worth squat in my opinion for what you can do with the adjustment pannel.

That is a great link, Metal Wolf. It's always good to review the basics occasionally, no matter how long you've been at it.
Nice linework, man. I was impressed. :)
That song on your profile, by Seal, is a great song too.

I got about the same Result using Smudges :P.. I'd say smudging is decent if your going for a Cartoony looking but not that great for realism..
Atleast you have talent in Sketching.. I can't do that at all :P

Out of it.. I'm pretty proud of myself. Thinking I have no artistic ability. I used this image in my introduction.

Metal Wolf's tutorial link is te best coloring concept one in my opinion. i have re-read it recently to relearn color theory and photoshop coloring. also for practise you should find some black and white pics and do value studies. i used b+w pics of nude women since i find them easy to look at. there was an improvement after my second try even. after you get comfy with the value stidy you can then look at what makes up skin color (it is explained very well in the tut http://itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm )
ps, since you are going to be painting it in PS, you wont need to do so much hatching in the line work. the coloring, if done well, will show the volume of hte forms.

well ive been practicing with photoshop. I'm gonna try and get a graphic tablet hopefully soon. Ive been reading over some of the tutorials you guys have posted, and they have been a great help.
This is just a practice picture that i scanned.

this is what ive done so far, its kind of time consuming. Ive still got to practice with light and shade and everything, especially body proportions (my teacher is getting me to draw alot.. and ive been studying a human anatomy book) Im trying to get this artwork to look as realistic as possible.

p.s the smudge tool is how i did most of it... Is it a bad habit that i am getting in to?
