It would be great if you could dismember them after you kill them and then be able to smelt down the parts for ingots.

Of course, I don't know what would be worse, needing 100 tons of Adamantine to create one of these for a pet, or being the unlucky guy that has to carry 100 tons of it back to the vault.

Question, they list what color the different golems are, yet none of the descriptions say gold/bronze/yellow/etc. color... so what is that goldish golem in the picture?

About the article though. There wont be many updates for a while it seems. That kinda sucks. Hopefully we will finally get to see alfar soon.

Yaahoo .. been sitting here for hours :ninja:
Sadly, nobody is going to be able to spell the names of 3/5ths of these magical metals, unless they happen to be of Scandanavian descent.

Thebth is right. I can't spell that. Kverjizztorion golem or that Raunchysteel golem are the hardest by far.

Wow, I was completely unimpressed by this update.
The graphics look fine, but the lore was really generic. "The Ham Sandwich Golem requires bread, ham, and cheese. It holds a single spell that has multiple effects. It makes your tummy ache, and then it shoots a bolt of acid into your throat called 'heartburn.' Spell casters use the Ham Sandwich Golem to bore the hell out of people."
You guys are smarter and more creative than this. Golems smell like half-assed game design to me. Filter, fluff, whatever you want to call it. I know I know, everything can't be sexy, but man, this is a lot like the Zombie update everyone loved so much (in my single voiced opinion).
Btw, I’m going to try to make my own game (completely different genre, 2d graphics, and completely different game market) so when I get it going I’ll let you know so you can come and criticize my work. Until then, I think golems vs. zombies will be locked in a scoreless tie for eternity.

every week that we get an update there is a bunch of dev bashing talking about how the update isn't good enough. I joined the forums in 05 and followed the game a bit longer than that. In 05 most of us would have killed for even an "unimpressive" update. I think we should all be glad we have recived the updates we have and stop talking about how bad you think they are. In my personal opinion a lore update shows that things are moveing surely they wouldnt be working on lore if they still had engine work or mechanics work they were doing now granted im sure there is still some of that being done as well, but stop crying about what your not getting and start being happy about what you are. Remember it wasnt all that long ago we would go months without ANYTHING new at all. Personally i liked the update because if you read between the lines it gives you more info than just simply this golem has this attack that golem has that one, maby not an insane amount of info but better than none at all. I seriously doubt if we are going to have any update that satisfies you people who cry week in and week out and you havent been paying that much attention to what the devs say when we do hear from them or you would know anything major about the game they want us to figure out ourselves by playing the game not them telling us about it.

There's definately a more positive way to approach feedback for these updates. I prefer not to hold back though. I don't want anyone to misunderstand my feedback. Personally, I think that those people who just sugar coat everything will be the ones that really get upset after the game is launched and they realize that things don't magically get fixed if you don't say anything about them.
I mean, I could've either A) Not posted at all. or B) Only posted positive feedback. But how else would the devs know that I thought this update sucked ass?
Now there's the distinct possibility that the devs could care less about my opinion. But how would I know that if they didn't tell me with honest feedback? It's a vicious cycle, and I would have to think that since the devs haven't told me (or anyone one the forums) to shut up, deep down they'd rather know when they screw up now, verses when the game comes out. Sure it's probably hard for them to read all this crap and here people (like me) that do no work, only read the updates and then make a quick comment, having to hold back what they really want to say in the interest of "good business" practices, but again, what's the point of this forum if no one's supposed to say anything but positive feedback? People disagree, such is life.

I'm terribly excited about fighting one of these. I hope melee combat will include faster paced dodging than Oblivion and Mount and Blade. I would like to be able to dive to the side or something when a golem takes a swing at me rather than backpedal a few feet.

Well a update with an excuse, First we get three weeks of vacations with only screen shots with a statement with more "substance to come in three weeks" then we get two half hearted updates and a notice its to much trouble???
Sorry but if you want more players and the community to try and help build any type of ACTIVE player base then its has to be a two way street .
This game has some great features that are suppopsed to be beening built but after 5 years of building DF , the gaming community has it's doubts bottom line .
To over come those doubts and help build the player base I and others hope will the one that updates a taxiing not only does not help but hurts. I honeslty wonder if the dev team is aware of that more and gamers are wondering is this game is vaporware?
If you do not have the time 30 to 60 minutes a week to help give some udpates and help build this community, then this game is in serious trouble in my opinion.
After 5 years ( I know some will say only three but face it , DF has been news for 5 years period)there should be a solid update every week at least a month I been watching this game now for 12 months on and off and I am sorry to say I read maybe two of the updates and really I have read about anything .
As a die hard gamer and founder of a very large game community, I am pleading to please help us, HELP YOU .You ask for and want our helping in brining players here then for the love of GOD give us something to work with real updates substance on a regular basics .
I and others I know as well as I am sure a great many players here want to answer your call to help but it's a two way street .

It would be great if you could dismember them after you kill them and then be able to smelt down the parts for ingots.
What ever they are wearing/useing is lootable. my guess is that you can get the metal from them

I to hope that they are craftable but...by a prestige class.

..Neat.
Have they done something to the graphics? Because when I take a look at those golems they dont seem really.....Darkfall....?
I was able to take all of the different titles of the metals and make a crazy sounding German guy out of them, I'm pretty proud of myself. Mithril was kind of hard, though, it didn't work too well.
I'm kinda of mixed about the updates. I'd like to know more, but I don't really care if it's going to slow down the process of me maybe being able to play the game sometime this year. I believe it is taxing, with such a small team.

Aww no recycled screenshots taken from a different angle? I'm disappointed :P.
Good to see something different for a change, actually got me to read it, though I don't really care much for the enemy npc's in the game (or any for that matter) until I'm actually playing it. I would have rather seen stuff about the game mechanics (sieging for example would be nice), but I'll not be too greedy and remain happy with this.

Wow those are quite possibly the most impressive graphically looking enemies I've seen so far! I hope they are quite tall.
It once again sounds like the developers are 'pushing' for something. Perhaps that ambitious beta date for end 2006. :D
I wonder if,with the same metals that created the golems, that you could make your own with a high-level skill? That would be....interesting.
Selling Kvitjarn!! :)
EDIT: Just realised that there's no in-game screenshots of said golems. A bit worrying, but meh they look good anyway.

The title of the image reads "Iron Golems". Our best bet is to assume they are, in fact, iron golems :p

The update says the fists cause earthquakes, but nothing about the noise of these things, which should be deafening.I'm terribly excited about fighting one of these. I hope melee combat will include faster paced dodging than Oblivion and Mount and Blade. I would like to be able to dive to the side or something when a golem takes a swing at me rather than backpedal a few feet.Hehe, one of the best questions so far, at least in a few weeks. Can someone dive and roll if something is flying at you or about to be dropped on you? That would add some pretty nice dynamics to ranged fights and melee for that matter... maybe.
On the same note, it would also be nice to see some ppl trying to stay out from under the feet of these things assuming they can kick. I would hate to see a shuffling, 95-year-old metal Golem, that would suck, like, err... flesh Golems.

We needed something to protect what we build when we're offline, it may as well be golems. They're not great or fantastic, but they're just fine.
If the game has 1/10th the features they're looking to add who cares if the golems guarding towns aren't awesom. Quit being a bunch of babies.
The other part of the Warcry article is what bothers me. I'm starting to think that the dev's don't have a clue. Even if they do deliver the greatest game of all time it's got to sell. They seem to be intentionally alienating people just to get an extra 20 minutes a week.
Finally we get updates after years of loyalty to a very slow moving dev cycle and they're telling us that it's too hard to put together one or two screen shots and a small one page update a week. If they don't understand that it's important at this point in development, then maybe they're not as far into development as we'd like to think. 2010 DF is sounding more likely.

Yep I'm sorry to say they look like something out of Voltron or some Anime Cartoon, or even worse, something out of WOW. I ain't bitching, just giving a bit of constructive criticism. They should have stuck with the standard mmo version of golems made of rough looking boulders of whatever stone or metal. These don't seem to fit with your graphical theme at all.

i didn't read the entire update. with that said, maybe this was mentioned in there but it would be really great to be able to have a player skill or skill tree adapted to creating golems. you could buy components, hire mercenaries to get them for you, trade for them, whatever. and after your skill was high enough you could roll around with 3-4 of those guys as guards. neat idea for those who prefer not to do their own dirty work. cool roleplaying possibilities at the very least even if they aren't allowed into pvp.

The first part of them entering a new phase, seem odd to me. There is still tons of things that should be finnished that have not been shown. Taking a few screens and supplying info wouldn't take more then a hour or two a week.
It's almost like they need time to make new models and sceneries, so that they can supply us with more of this "content". Im not saying it's bogus, just seem a bit odd excuse.

Another useless update imo. Why is everyone so fired up about getting info on npcs in a pvp centric game? Why cant they give us insight on the skills, sieging, trade routes, economy, underground areas, alfar, mirdain etc etc.

Renders are for a game that's hardly in production, not for a game that is supposed to be in beta "soon"... one picture of a two metal golems thats not even in-game and then descriptions on all the types... if there was a render with all the types of metal golems, then it wouldnt be too bad of an update.

You should actually read what peopel write. When the updates are good then the response is good, when the update is less then what people were looking for they give feedback.

"Also, it is of some note that the devs have hit another point in the cycle where it's time to really put nose to the grindstone and beat down the next landmark point. As such, the weekly updates with new information are rather taxing and break the flow of the general work being done."
Anyone else read that as, were going into crunch mode to get to beta asap so don't bother us. Makes sense to me, get the game to beta so people can get their questions answered by playing instead of by asking the devs.
Oh well, I can dream can't I :D

I think thats what we are all dreaming about. My understanding from the old guys though is that this has happened before and then they didn't hear anythign for a year.
Maybe not though.

i like information like this but this is just one type of monster in the game, maybe coming out with a preview on dungeons or something would be cool

Now we have some kind of listing of what metals will be in-game.
Like heavy metal, speed metal, trash metal, gothic metal, kiddie metal, black metal...

every week that we get an update there is a bunch of dev bashing talking about how the update isn't good enough.
I don't know maybe its just me, but I'd rather not have an update about the game. And maybe a update about the progress of the game. "Oh we just finished the dwarf city" something even that simple, to know where there at in completition. So i'd perfer that over some crappy information any day.

I'm perplexed. A weekly update with a screen or two a week should not be so much to ask. Like many have said already, if all the devs spend 40-50 hours a week on the game. What's one hour combined to take a few screens and write a short article about a feature of the game? If not for the already Darkfall fans, do it for the yet to be fans who now will be clueless of Darkfall untill the updates continue if they eventually do.

that's one hour not spent making the game. i'd rather game makers oh, i dunno, make games rather than moonlighting as journalists.

Huh? You want an update, not an update? Info, not info? I'm confused ;)
Thank you for the nice update.
I read the part about the devs really putting their nose to the grindstone and as such the updates might change. That's fine with me.
What I think most everyone reading these forums would actually like to see is something along the lines of:
There are 3 major hurdles to complete prior to a beta launch. We are working hard on the first and should complete that phase within the next 3-4 weeks (or months or whatever). Each phase/hurdle will take us about 2 months (or whatever). Beta launch estimated for 1/1/2009 (or whenever).
That's a simple update, doesn't take more than 5 minutes to write and actually delivers information on the ONE THING most everyone actually wants to hear about. Knowing more about the Golems', though interesting to read, is not really that significant. So if that's distracting the devs, stop doing it. Instead, just update us on progress towards beta, which is what we want to know.
Then maybe once a month give us a few nice pictures with some info on gameplay mechanics, which is also what we'd like to have.

This update sucked balls. Even the one about zombies was better.

As I would love to see those kind of updates all that does is set them up to disappoint us. They say estimated launch of beta is Jan 2008 but when that time rolls around and they aren't done they may lose some of their fan base or they feel they need to release beta at that time when they feel it is not ready. There are probably many problems that arise that causes them to extend most of the deadlines so giving us specific times will only hurt us in the long run.

I dunno, at a certain point you have to give specific dates and times or you lose people anyways.
