the us-american John Isner (atp ranking 19) won the longest tennis match ever over the french Nicolas Mahut (atp ranking 148) 6:4, 3:6, 6:7 (7:9), 7:6 (7:3) and 70:68. the match was played over 3 days at the wimbledon tournament at court 18. it broke the records for longest match ever played, (11 hours 5 minutes) longest 5th set ever played (8 hours 11 minutes), most aces scored (isner 112, mahut 103) and most games played (138).
the match started tuesday this week where the first 4 sets were played and it got interrupted because of bad lighting conditions. on wednesday they started the 5th set and after 7 hours the match got interrupted again at 59:59 because the light conditions started to get bad again. on thursday the marathon continued and finally isner made the 3rd break of the match and set the score to 70:68. both players received an exceptional price on court sponsored by the all england club.
