A little cruise will begin from six harbors, one for each race. These ships will take their crew on a scenic little cruise around the pretty Agonian coastline where players old and new alike can relax and enjoy the gentle sea breeze.

However, as with all things Agonian we forecast the climate to turn bloody and fiery quite quickly. The enterprising among you may also notice, abandoned here and there, various sea-faring vessels for the taking. We urge you to follow the Darkfall philosophy of finders-keepers and slayers of finders-keepers.

We'll provide an update of the details closer to the date and we look forward to seeing you there!

Afternoon everyone, :)

as the event is coming up we thought we'd post an update and address some of your replies here.

- The event will begin at 20:00 (CST and GMT +2) on the coming Monday evening. We're aware that monday is not an ideal day for events but due to the nature of the Welcome Back to Darkfall promotion, this was the one day that would allow as many people to take part as possible.

- Ships will depart at 20:00 from designated bays and take you on a little tour.. expect trouble. ;) We have marked the locations on the map below (http://www.darkfallonline.com/images/EventMap.jpg).

- Your Ship captain will be carrying a generous supply of Black Powder, Repair tools, and Repair Shards. Trade them at your convenience and they will hand over a portion. You never know when it might come in handy. ;)

- There will be a number of abandoned ships floating around the areas. These are free to be used for the event. However, we will be keeping tabs on the logs. Any ships de-spawned or banked before the end of the event will disappear in a puff of cowardly mist. If you want to keep your free ship, you will have to earn it.

- And finally, the Birthday Guest that some of you brought up in this thread. Yes she's was a little late in arriving. Her slumber was indeed interrupted by the festivities and she is almost fully awake now, she just sneakily hit the snooze button for a bit. Watch this space and you will meet her shortly.

We were pleased to see that many people had a good time with the Welcome Back to Darkfall event. There was, however, a small mix-up with the time. Can I recommend one thing, put the ships on a 3 day timer. If they aren't destroyed in 3 days they vanish.

The problem with this sort of event is people grab a ship, despawn it and put it in the bank. Put the ships on a 3-7 day timer and everyone will be out sailing and killing each other because there is no ship to lose.

Its going to be raining manowars . ok so this is what will probably happen . everyone boards then starts killing the hell out of each other , leaveing the new players with the protections left to loot the boats . That or everyong jumps ship at the first big boat and fills the water with blood . or some high end guild kills everyone on the boat and the GM driveing and sails off into the sunset . then the server crashes

I am pretty sure an easy way to ensure the six NPC racial ships can not be taken, is to have an invuln GM driving them.

It's cheap, but effective.


As for all the freebies lying around, yes there will be people who just try to bank them. I am sure there will be others though, who will leap at the opportunity to take out a free boat an experience something they may have been missing out on.

In every alliance i played the activity was most during work days evenings. Simply the majority goes on parties or spend the time with family/friends on weekends. I think AV knows why they choose a monday because they know how many players are logged in

I believe that unless you want to be hit by zap towers you would be limited to the Ork or Mahirim ship launch. And yes you would need to be blue, unless you planned on getting on the ship after it leaves port. As there is no current information on whether there will be some sort of zap tower aboard.

Things like this that pull out the lore and the old racial cultures and histories make me really regret that darkfall did end up becoming ARAC. I think racial tension (in game ofc) adds a ton of excitement and builds loyalty and creates conflict. Im not much of an rper, but this part of the game i think could have really been fun to role play. we took control of the SoTL at dwarven lands

the GM asks us who wants powder we all offcource do but he does give to anyone we then get incomming ppl and he tells us to protect the ship for which we need powder so we ask him for powder again he doesnt reply and doesnt give us any

we tell him we can stear the ship so that he can trade it to us since he cant trade while being the captain of a moving ship but he does comply to this

he then after we been protecthing "his" ship for 5-10mins without any powder decide to stop the ship and let everyone of the pursuers board the ship

he then imidiatly after they taken control of it disengage the ship and let one of them control it so he can trade them powder so they can protect it

it also has to be said for us to get on it in the first place he wouldnt stop for us and we had to sneak up on it while taking his attention of with a raft but for thise he stops when they ask in public

now how is this fair in anyway that a gm do nothing to help one group but do everything to help anyother one???

Congratulations AV, by making this as everything you do with poor planning and terrible execution you just made sure that the ones who this event was FOR were unable to enjoy it.

In darkfall I see the merit of this being an open pvp event and that is cool and all but you actually had a purpose with this event and you failed hard.

Never trust your playerbase, create some protocol to keep them in line when you pretend you have something in the works for some special group of people.

1 template game, huge run up to it, vets are gods compared to 4 month old casuals, magical travel from everywhere to wherever you want to go, no regional conflict, omnipresent alliances, unplayable sieges, magical teleport to bindstone when logging out in water/lava, crashing game in portals, no lore at all, one click crafting, everyone is ARAC because alignment and lore is nonexistent... the list is longer but i hope u get the picture.

ANG jumped aboard Ork ship instantly, attacking us. The GM flipped out and either sunk or removed the ship by other means.

Then he spawns it again, lets ANG jump on and drives off without the Orks in the city.

After chasing it down by raft to try and get aboard we find ~4-5 ANG controlled ships and get shot down. I guess that'll teach me to wear decent gear.

I could have gone with my clan alliance to do this, but I thought it might be fun to see things from the perspective of those coming back.

Really makes me lose faith in AV. Shows how incompetent, biased and outright retarded the company and GMs are.

Wow people really are raging. For me and 9 other people from Agenda/ZzZzZ we experienced a very nice event.

We started by riding to Mirdain lands a little early before it would start. We found a Ship of the Line controlled by GM Nioku and boarded it. We hung around there for awhile but no one else showed up so we steered out into the wide open sea. GM Nioku was chatting with us in public and was very pleasant and we were sailing around the seas and during this time we ran into several Schooners and Ship of The Lines controlled by GM's and some by players. All the ships had players on them except for two which were abandoned so I got them for free.

We had great fights and our SOTL eventually sank while fighting another SOTL. We boarded their SOTL and took it over. We asked a GM to get GM Nioku back to this new SOTL and he came and kept being our captain so we drove on. Eventually we found more people to fight and we took over another ship that I got.

So all in all it was a great event and I got 1 brigantine and 2 schooners.

Perhaps if I hear that there is some change to actually prevent the ships from being stolen the first 5 minutes they are spawned this time. Otherwise I'll either go on alliance ship or not at all.

PPL showing up ½ hour early at Mirdain capitol, eagerly awaiting the "welcome back to Darkfall" I counted 35 ppl a few clanned but mostly unclanned waiting, No GM comes, no nothing, apparently we hear that other ships left early and were allready captured.

At this very moment, looking at perhaps 25 new potential darkfall subscribers I see ninogan linking 3 ship in race chat, and joes slave two, saying a GM said Event was over so it was ok to despawn and bank, allthough its clearly says it was not.

I wanna guess they keep their despawned ships....
And where was the big sleeping thing awakened???

No, Ninogan you are the one who (for once) does not get it.

The event was designed to entice the returners back to Darkfall by showing them what ship to ship combat can be like.

It did not do that from the little I saw of it and from the stories in this thread.

For Wednesday's event it would be good if the major alliances could, for once, stow their greed and actually let everyone else on the server have a bit of fun.

If that is just not possible, what about this:

Have the major alliance leaders speak and agree amongst themselves WHICH port they will be at so each of the major alliances mans one SotL and defends it and everyone else on board. There can be then be the major ship battle at the end between the major alliances and their shipmates WITHOUT the major alliances being worried about losing their own ships.

All I was saying was then when our group of 10 arrived we were greeted by a nice and pleasant GM who decided it was time to take off. We took off and then he drove us around and we fought other people, got ships and then he took us to land and said it was over. We had fun and the people we killed atleast got to see some naval warfare. We were 10 people so we weren't a zerg and we fought 30+ people at one point they were mostly new (not all of em) so it was decently even since they were still a lot more. Some had higher stats than myself.

We went there to have fun and we did. You can't expect us to not go because it was "only" meant for the returning people of DFO.

Of course I don't mind. I am not exactly sure when we arrived but I was a bit late and the others had been there for some time. I came there at probably around 19.30-ish. By that time my group (9ppl) were already on the ship that was close to Charybdis but had already departed. I caught up. Charybdis is the Mirdain city by the way. Yeah we never entered the city. There was no point in doing that since a ship must be spawned outside in the water anyways.

GM took off a lot earlier than they had announced which is just god awful stupid. He took us west of mirdain lands and we sailed north towards Niflheim and then after an hour maybe he drove back a bit and let us hit land. I doubt they had the "special guest" ready because they probably failed at that part which was a shame. We did not see it and no one else has either from what I've heard.
