View Full Version : Best Videogame Ever

mine is FEAR by far, best shooting game ive ever seen. during some of the gunfights, the dust from the holes blown in the concrete was so thick all you could see was the muzzleflashes of the badguys. after the smoke cleared, i would go and see the damage. there would be bodies, occasionally headless or missing an arm. but by far the most memorable was i walked into a room after the fight, and there was agiant pool of blood with a sinlge boot sitting upright in the middle. none of the bodies was missing a foot. awesome!!

also, i love that the unarmed combat isnt just generic punching like in most games, you have a couple different moves to do without trying to make it an overly complicated fighting game, and it has some really freaky parts too.

Deus Ex... No game has come close to it's greatness since it one game of the year. Open world to explore, skill based combat system/character tree that lets you create your character how you like, implants that add to the cyberpunk theme, and one of the best stories in video game history. (planescape torment is a close second)

Darkfall and Portals (from Valve) are my most awaited games.

My favourite games of all time (that I've played) are Half Life 2 (PC), Need For Speed: Most Wanted (Xbox 360), Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time (N64), and I'll have to agree with Viluin that Diablo 2 (PC) was amazing. Expan was pretty good too.

I don't think so. Sit back with a nice drink, close the curtains, put some headphones on, and let the game unfold. Take your time with it and whatever you do, DON'T RUSH THROUGH IT! Quake 1
Dungeon Keeper 2
X-Com UFO Defense(the greatest game I never even came close to beating)
Worms 1(with room of friends)
Morrowind(with a nod towards Oblivion for some of it's tweaks towards essentially continued Morrowind gameplay)

I have a feeling Darkfall might overtake UO. And I know portal is going to consume huge amounts of time.

Two other solid, but doubtfully classic-caliber games on horizon: Dead Rising, and and Dark Messiah.

Does anyone know of a way to get XCom UFO Defense to run smoothly on today's computers? I tried with some success 6-7 years ago with SloMo and CPUKiller, but never got various modes tweaks to run at just the right speeds.

I know some people will disagree, but I have to say Final Fantasy 7 & 10.

7 had one of the best storylines and was all around an amazing game and the graphics weren't horrible, the CGs were incredible for the time.

10 also had a great storyline, maybe not as good as 7. Also the graphics, battle system, and talking were the first of its kind in the Final Fantasy line.

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Calibur.(I think thats its name)

Why:

The combat system seemed to work perfectly for me. Each officer could have up to 5 units in it(including the officer), and large beast units, such as dragons and golems, costed two unit spaces. The units where placed on a square with nine tiles in it. You could place the units anywhere on those tiles(though you couldn't have a person next to a large beast), and the game told you how effective that formation was. Mages do better in the back, and attack twice, while the opposite was true for Knights. In a battle, you could give the group four orders: Automate(attack whatever you want to), Attack Strongest, Attack weakest, and Attack leader. If there was a unit in front of the leader, units like Kinghts had to kill that one first. And is there was a unit behind the leader, mages would have to kill that unit first. In the boss battles, the fight was over once you killed the leader. If you killed a normal unit leader, however, then that squad would wnader aimlessly, and avoid your army. You could bring up to 10-12 squads with you, and the map would be real-time(though you could puase and still give orders), and there would be stronghold on the map, which would heal your troops, as well as offer other services, such as Witch's den(revive dead soldiers), and a trader(buy items, weapons, armor, and spells. If a soldier died, and you didn't revive them in time, they became undead(zombies, skeletons, vampires, liches, etc.), with no way to return them to the living.

And the storyline was brilliant, especially since you could alter it. Even the most Mundane choicemight actually decide who lives and dies. No matter what you chose, though, the storyline was full of victories, defeats, and betrayals(of both small and large). Oh, and it takes more then five years to see evferything in the game.

Dynasty Warriors. Preferably 3 and 4. Empires a bit also.

Nothing better than mindless button-bashing and making absolute chaos out of armies. :D And Lu Bu is a f**king hard guy when you're weak. At least,he was on DW3.

Now that should, could and would be my best MMO ever. It'd be hard to balance arcade-style of DW with MMO gameplay though. But they make it more tactical with each incarnation. And they have Kessen/Empires to work with.

Ya i randomly stumbled onto the game. I heard the company that created it went bankrupt right before release so they just shoveled it out. Then the guy on his own time put out the patches after the company broke apart. If that game would have been a success (which it could have been) would have breathed some fresh air into the RPG genre.

It was a few months after the release that Troika Games started having problems. I think it was a real shame too. Bloodlines was a good game that should have sold more than it did. Same goes for the studios other works, Arcanum and The Temple of Elemental Evil. It's too bad that Bloodlines was over shadowed by Half-life 2, which was released on the same day, so it never really stood a chance at grabbing the headlines.

Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines.. Scared me stupid in the hotel, and when I was powerful enough, made me feel like a realy bad ass. In the warhouse that gets attacked after talking to some guy. I just remember jumping through the window, out onto the tops of the shelves, and dropping like death onto the first guy I could...

FFVII.. This needs no reason, its beauty, my first RPG.

Baldur's Gate 2.. Again, no reason required, story, rpg elements..

NWN2 single player mode.. This is mainly for the story, as I felt that I was to restricted otherwise as to the choices I made.

Zelda Ocarina of time.. Me and my brother felt like gods after finishing any dungeon, was a truely satisfying game.

MGS 1 and 4.. Number 1 was pure fricken genius, Gray fox.. Revolver Ocelot.. Christ it was magical. 4 for the end. I felt snakes pain as he passed through those waves, my hand was in agony punching circle (or square) to keep him moving. That helped me sympathise with snake for some reason, and the cut scene for the liquid fight... and the liquid fight thereafter... No fight has ever impressed me more, in games or films.. (special mention goes to MGS3, and the snake eater theme tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCgeHDFIFLY )

Resident Evil, Nemesis.. Purely for how much I shit my self inside the first 2 hours of game play.. I learnt the meaning of fear from that.

DMC.. Pure unrefined goodness.. Some parts of that where poetry.

UO

Honorable mentions: Doom 1&2(even today with Legacy patch (http://legacy.newdoom.com/))

I beat X-com

The Greatest and most Awesomest game of awesomes is Darkfall. Hands down.

But really I would have to say Elder Scrolls IV: Morrowind. The graphics aren't that bad for its time, but overall everything about the game makes me scream in joy!

FEAR - just fucking great
DooM 1,2 - with Legacy patch rules
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic - also known as "The Adventures of Sir Kicksalot Deathboot in the Land of the Conspicuously Placed Spike Racks", but it still has a combat system i never get bored of.
Disciples II - Awesome art and addictive gameplay.
The Witcher - RPG masterpiece, can't wait for Enhanced Edition.
Call of Duty 4 - The singleplayer campaign kicks more ass than Chuck Norris at a feminist convention, and the leveling system in multiplayer is well balanced (except the GL/3xFrag)

Ocarina of Time for me. Even if it wasn't a monsterous leap forward in gaming, it would still have been a great game. The story ,amazing graphics (at the time) and controlls all came together. They tried to expand on it with majora's mask, which was a decent game, but it just didnt have the spirit of ocarina of time.

Ive somone hadnt stolen it from me i would still play it from time to time. All the little subquests and storylines are really fun, if for nothing else than nastalgia. Though i have to say i HHHHAAATTEEDDD the water temple.

BTW nice necro...

That's actually a fucking tough one.... I think I'm going to have to say the original Star Wars Galaxies, just because of the sheer amount of things you can do with it though I don't really have a favorite, just favorites.

. Dungeon Keeper 2 did it for me because of how evil you could be and the different things you could do

. Startopia for it's detailed management aspect, for fucks sake you could manage an entire space station! I don't know of any games that have even tried doing something like that, when you got a star dock together and traded with traders you could even see the traders actually dock in with their ships and look outside into space, yeah the 3D itself wasn't that impressive but it was still cool to see

. Baldurs Gate 2 the rich and detailed storyline just did it for me with this one, party members actually had feelings, they objected to certain things you did and respected you more depending on what actions you took or what your reputation was like, the romances weren't pathetically corny like in most RPGs save for one but it was kind of the good warm and fuzzy aww corny rather than the badly written corny

Next Generation games can bite my ass apart from the graphics they're nothing more than a big scam in my opinion because they don't try anything revolutionary in the market beyond adding one or two extra features.
