I was just wondering if we could get some nice big high res pictures that we can use as desktop images. So yea.... can we get some nice looking Darkfall wallpapers? I need to unintentionally advertise next time I go to a lan party.

well there are no wallpapers but you can find Darkfall logos and art online and set them as your bakground.

Wallpapers are easy to make. Just post this in the Art section and ask the community to put some together.

If you could move this thread there and change the thread topic it'd be great :) I'm basically asking for really nice looking Darkfall "Nature" screenshots, and towns, that really make darkfall look good. :P

I dont want to be the 'picky guy who wants everything to be perfect' but, if you could remove the crosshair (and healthbar + name) on the first wallpaper it would look real' good! ^.^

I love them all, especially those with the dorfs.. They're way to beautiful, except that those environment wallpapers look a bit corny, but I guess that's because the source is corny and very zoomed in, or something. Guess we'll have to wait for more screenshots to make more..

Anyway, keep them coming. Lots of kudos!

To tell the truth it takes a bit of luck and a few hue filters. Not that I'm all that good at grunge. I have a style similar to grunge but not quite as covering, and no idea what I sould call it.

How do you go about creating a Wallpaper , and the different resolutions? This has me itching to get my Wacom tablet out to do some stuff .:D

Well, I start with my current screen resolution (1280x1024) and work from there. Since I only have a 19" monitor, I tend to work at 50% size so I can see everything without it being too pixelly, and zoom in to 100% or larger if need be for details. Best bet is to start at the highest resolution you want to make, then step the sizes down from there. One thing to be careful of is layer effects and things like that. They might look fine at one resolution but start to look like crap or overwhelming at smaller sizes. Same thing with fonts, you might need to resize if they become fuzzy or unreadable. Since I just made two fairly close together resolution sizes, I cheated and just resized my initial jpg instead of doing it properly with the psd itself.

Basically, I have a general idea in my head and then go looking for the screenshots to build it. Like with the dragon armor and Mahirim ones, those are a theme and I'll probably do something similar for other races/items as I find screencaps I want to use.

Then I just arrange items on the screen until I find a pleasing and balanced arrangement that works. How that comes about? I could probably break down why I think the different arrangements of my wallpapers work in analytical terms, but it's a "natural" aesthetic that I just know, I think. Used to do it without thinking in my art classes and then the instructors would point out why such-and-such worked properly. *shrug*

EDIT - Oh, and I'm of the "less is better" school of thought, and prefer to not have something in there just because I can. Which is probably one reason why I don't do grunge or similar styles very well. Not saying those are bad, just that they tend to end up looking too busy for my tastes. I go for a cleaner look, which is probably a reflection of my graphical communications training before I got into illustration in college.

Thank you for the write up Rhyssa :D . I went the opposite direction in college and started in graphic communications and wound up in Fine Arts, but now am integrating a mix of both into any work I do . I got a lot of "free" lessons from my friends in the Graphics Dept. when at school, so I can work around most things as far as look or wants is concerned . I just bought a new airbrush ( Iwata Eclipse "C") and am looking for projects to do .

Someone should make a mahirim wallpaper that doesnt contain any screen shots. Drawings / Concept art looks much better on backgrounds then sub-par quality screenshots.

In case you're wondering how to save these or any images you like for a desktop, right click on the image, and a sub menu pops up . It will give you the options to save the image as is , or "Save as Wallpaper" or "Use as Desktop " . Enjoy .:)

Devs hate dwarfs. There is only about 2 or 3 good screens of a dwarf, so Backgrounds with them are rather low rezz looking. Once they get a Mahirim like race expo I'll take a shot at them.

I agree, the material we have to use for actual races is pretty limited. I'm thinking that we're going to have to produce our own drawn and painted works to get what we want out there. In which case I want a position on the Dev team:p:ohno:..after all :D
