The blood didn't look all that impresive in the horse picture. Some of it actually degraded the image imo.

Noticed something interesting: Both the Dwarf and Ork are wielding swords while mounted, yet while on foot both are wielding axes. Perhaps axe wielding is ineffective on mounts (which would be a weakness for the long-time "axe vs sword, which is better" debate), while it excels on foot battles...
Actually, there hasn't been a single shot of a horseman wielding something other than a sword in battle. In the gameplay video there's an ork with a sort of mace riding, but doesn't show fighting.

Also, in the rpgvault update about sensory cues, it shows the female using a curved scimitar-like sword when mounted, and then using a different, longer straight-edge sword when running on foot. Perhaps there are some weapons more suited for the different types of combat? They still haven't shown any pole-arms or lances for mounts, which may be used more as charging weapons whereas swords are used for skirmishing while mounted. Or maybe it's just a one-handed weapon limitation...

Yeah, hopefully they will give us some information on if that will come into play. As for the screen shots, they're nice. Glad they put up a Dwarf instead of another human. With the update of good screenies, I can handle the lack of informantion updates for the next couple weeks.

I agree, the blood could use some serious work. Other than that I thought the rest were great. That ork was just plain sweet.

I think the physics engine in DF will make long bladed swords more effective in mounted battle then shorter reached axes, so you might be right, Zycotix.

We want to see some mahirim and Alfar screens!

It just takes some common sense here. While mounted it would be very difficult to use a two handed weapon and still be able to control your mount. That is probably why you only see one handed weapons being weilded while mounted.

All the screenshots looked awesome except for the one with the blood. Seeing red triangular figures on the floor as blood ruins the scene. Personally, I'd rather have no blood than bad blood. Great screens none the less :D

Yeah and it's nice to see that the devs seem to be putting that amount of detail into the combat system. I totally expect to see weapons have a different attack/stat rating specifically for being used while mounted. Interesting that we haven't seen any mounted riders wearing a shield or using a spear though.

What about beds for that reason? UO had beds, but you couldnt make your character lay down in them. Hopefully the characters in darkfall will be able to lay down in their beds and that making them do so serves a useful purpose like resting and recovering health, mana and stamina faster.

That port town, ork starter village, looked really barren. Very "betaish" in other words. No activity in the background, hardly much decore. Just some really plain small buildings and dirt ground. Sure it's just a small town, but even small towns can be full of life... dogs walking around, NPC's standing about, little NPC kids running through, chickens for you to smack and so on.

Personally, I'd rather have no blood than bad blood.

 NEVVVOORRRRR!!

How would we see where a fight has taken place, or how injured someone is, or where that injured person went? :ohno:
If you look at that pic, there's actually only 1 obvious triangle. The others might be too but that big one on the right is probably the one which catches your attention. Spose it could do with some work, but it looks ok as it is imo, definately beats having no blood.

Great screens, looking forward to seeing new areas next week and hopefully new races sometime after that.

Are these "starting towns" as in newly founded by players or uncapturable npc cities?

They looked more like player cities to me due to the low NPC activity that someone else mentioned earlier.

I've got nothing as to why only swords have been shown on mounted characters; but just a thought...the axes did seem reasonably large and cumbersome and both the orc and dwarf were wielding them two-handed. Perhaps they're just too hard to carry one handed while riding.

I'm pretty happy with the weakly screenshots. A year ago today, we would have killed for a screenshot like one of these. Now, we're getting 6 of them this week, there's nothing to complain about.

Lacking new tidbits? Fuck that... Nothing to say? Show us something. That's what's being done and I think it is great.

Edited because I can't count to 6.

Nice, but the shape of blood... It's sort of strange. And not only this big triangle on the right, but every stain on the floor - it should be much darker and more oval, drop-like. Not some funny geometric figures :P
But we cant be sure, just have to believe, that they know it and will change it :)
Even if they dont I'm glad of everything else (except the lack of NPCs) showed on the screens.

True.

And the Screenshots looks good, dwarves look good, the... usual ork... looks good. The thing about the blood, they still havent touched it up, but still i can't imagine them letting that kind of graphic stay there upon release. So i'm betting it will get fixed.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but its quite obvious that the other 3 races are not yet ready to be shown, we know that they "remaked" the graphics of all the races, it seems that the humans/orks/dwarfs had the priority ^^

Remember that the human's special mount is the over-sized Mercian War Horse. I assume that most of the horses with humans on them we've seen are of this type :)

I believe the caption provided with those screenies did in fact say something about being take with a low-end Card or resolution. I'll go back and look...

[Edit: Wow... I could have sworn I read something about a low end card or some junk but it sure is hell isn't there now. Bleh... I too now hope to hell that these were taken at a lower end something. Otherwise the blood needs some serious help. LOL]

Love the environment, but as been said before the blood would love to get some attention and probably will. The orks are ugly, as they should be, and the dwarves look lovely as they should do. Can't wait for some dwarven female screenshots *drooool*..

I mean.. uhm, nevermind. Just keep the screenies coming and you'll have one happy dorf.
