The random rolls on weapons as well as the one on appearel shouldn't be the way to go.
Why not implementing an option on using 1 further material to trigger the rolls, read they are non random anymore.
For example you want to craft a great sword:
1) You get the basis roll if there is non of the optional material, lets say a sparkstone, in your back.
2) You get a +0.01 roll if there is a q1 sparkstone in your backpack.
.
.
.
6) You get a +0.05 roll if there is a q5 sparkstone in your backpack.
Sounds about fair, if you invest a bit more that you get a bit more.
The upper example shows that there might be some problems when having sparkstones of different quality in your backpack.
