Unlike some other games, Darkfall features collision detection, so you'll have to chop your way out of any corners you let yourself be trapped in.

Never thought about this having an affect on PvE

Although for me not that interesting of info, good to know that they will try to zerg you and the mage like ones will stay back and not run in like idiots.

I wish it had said if the warrior's items were fully lootable, it has been said in the past what you see is what you get, but things could have changed. I also wish it would have mentioned if the friendly fire would affect the mage like zombies when there firing at you from a distence, would be awesome if your killing thing and a mage accidently takes down his ally.

Oh, and cool picture, would have been nicer seeing them kick the shit out of one of the devs though.

Too long, didn't read.

Cool screenshot though.

They went in depth about something and you don't read. I do realize that what mobs wear and their description not at the top of the list about detailed information but it is a step forward from what they have been giving.

When I started to do champs in UO, I would get trapped alot from not paying attention to where I was going in relation to the mob of monsters. Teleport (spell) became very useful :D

Darkfall features collision detection, so you'll have to chop your way out of any corners you let yourself be trapped in.Dire zombie
Powered by vile and unholy magic, Dire Zombies are the most dangerous type of reanimated corpse. Their bodies are covered by bands of black cloth which has been inscribed with magical symbols, making them appear almost mummy-like, though neither head nor hands or feet are covered. Dire Zombies carry no armor or weapons, but their hands are enclosed in swirling orbs of necromantic magic, with which they deliver powerful blows if they are forced into melee combat.OMG! AC Clone!

I liked the old Q&A format better, but, this is how its going to be from now on...... oh well.

Cool pic of the zombies, but, its not something thats on the top of my need to know list.

However, Ive got to hand it to the devs on the new zombies look. Much scarier looking than the original model they were going with. Very impressive.

The new format is a welcome change. Thank you for listening. :)

Still, the subject matter is not exactly what I was personally looking for. For example, I didn't log onto the warcry website tonight thinking "Oh please let the update be about Zombies!"

Although it was interesting and provided additional detail and context I've long been hoping for, it would be preferable to see less Zombie MySpace blog like content, and more Economic, Geo-Political, Combat Example....stuff.

I know, no matter what they do, someone will always be unhappy. This time it's me :( . I understand that we won't see any real detailed information on game mechanics until release, maybe they start trickling a bit more details when beta starts. And they probably still have a quite some weeks left, so they need to fill these if they handing out weekly infos.
I would have prefered Warcry staying with their Q&A, that way i found at least in each session one or two tidbids i didn't know before. Maybe it's just a bad opener, but actually (except the collosion detection and the screenshot) it could have been copied and pasted from any other game's lore. Hopefully the next topic doesn't cover vampires; if it's in the same style i'd probably could write that on my own.

I don't want to put anyones effort down here, it's still better than no info. It's just my opinion.

Edit: Theres no girl zombies :( why are mobs so often genderless? I guess its hard to make two models for everything?Good point

The update wouldn't be too bad if we had some in-game screenshots rather than yet another render.
The format wouldn't be too bad if we had something a little more desireable than the inner workings of zombies.

I think this format will be better than weakening strings of questions with vague answers, but this weeks edition was like vague: blown up into x5.

Next week will be 'The effects of Dwarven Ale on the brain'

Thats because your dex blew though... if you had dex you rarely noticed that.

lol no, even with 100 dex you could only push through one mob and you would get stuck.

Anyway, this update rocks and i love the picture.

Maybe we get some Zombie RP clans that will wear zombie armor and weapons hehe

Also, i like this format better because we get a pic and more detailed information about a subject which is a lot better than half arsed Q&A's with info i already knew.

Very nice text explaining the zombies, and the picture attached looked great. I loved the Zombie Warrior raising his sword up in the air - lets hope for emotes like that in the game. If zombies look that good, imagine the player characters. Now I have to say its hard to know what to expect from these updates as they seem to change in format every time. During the next Q&A I'd like a down-to-earth text from Tasos or Claus telling us about the status of development and how the beta preparations are coming along. :)

Shaar
07-08-2006, 12:02 PM
I prefer the new format. It may not talk about game mechanics at all but at least is a decent read and gives us a feeling of how the world will be like. Understand that you won't get any more substantial info on mechanics till beta or release and enjoy every update for what it is. Once people where whinning about lack of updates... now we get 2 and sometimes 3 updates a week and peopl still whine...

Virtra
07-08-2006, 12:11 PM
I like the new format as well. Also it allows for the Combine Q&A to replace te warcry Q&A without being redundant. Good stuff, and a good idea marketing wise.

Did you even read what they said? They are going to be trying to explain things in more detail. What did they describe in detail with this update? Mob differentiation, mob equipment, lots of stuff. If you actually pay attention its not superficial at all, it is how the game works.

ShadowDemen

Considering they are making 10-11 different zombie types at the least, I can't wait to see other mobs. I like this style, becuase I'm one of those people who reads the game lore before I play. You can find out game mecanics in beta, but no one except the devs can tell you about the worlds lore, which makes it more interactive. Besides, if you look at lore closely, you'll notice answers are hidden in there.

I liked the update.
While it didn't really go into any game mechanics. It does explain a bit on the diffrent level of mobs, and what you will find on them.

Since in DF mobs only drop what they normally carry. It gives you an indication of what mobs might be equiped with.

I also liked the diffrent kinds of zombies. Shows that every mob is not going to be the same as every other mob, just made a diffrent color. But I do wish they would have shown the zombies in actual screen shots.

I like the glass is half full attitude. And yeah it was really nice to kinda get a rundown of what something might be equipped with, nice to hear that equipment from Zombies wont be on par with equipment from say a elven knight, because the zombies dont care. Makes sense, and a good game element.

If you have to have devs tell you about game lore, then it's largely useless, except as (hopefully passable) fiction. I want game lore which is reflected in the game world in which I play.

well, look at it this way, zombies are dead people risen form the grave, at once point thye HAD genders, in death did it all just fall off and now they all look the same? But its not jsut in zombies in all kinda of things you usually kill in video games. not everythign in the world reproduces via budding you know. Bah, I learned not a single piece of information that I did not already know. From previous old old screenshots we saw zombies with different wore out gear and missing limbs.

Also we know mobs have different gear and use it in different ways, and that casters stand in the back with some logic, this we all already know.

For those lore junkies ask for more travles of agon. hell at one point the lore was detailed enough we could make better and more accurate maps of the world then what we got 2 weeks ago from the devs.

I think its a refreshing way to handle the Q&As, but going to be pissed if next week I get a 2 page article of how kwel it is to hire npcs, which can harvest resources or fight along side you, they can wear gear you give them, etc blah blah blah, stuff we already know.

Give us more detail on things like the skill decay which caused a 10 page discussion this week. How frequent, how steep is the decay, how often do you need to use a skill to prevent it, etc.

An never again should we see detail game information around a mob, when we have 5 times the amount they are giving us in the old information we have from 3 years ago.

Angry-Khan

kinda stinks it wasnt a ss at the end instead of rendering or whatever the heck they call it. Zombies is kind of an odd-ball topic to start this new approach to q&a unless i missed some kind of zombie obsession plaqueing the forums. Then again, looks like a solid new approach, hopefully it will make the q&a's seem like theyre about a game rather than some floating concept, gj.

Powered by vile and unholy magic, Dire Zombies are the most dangerous type of reanimated corpse.

Aw, no Liches, Ghouls, ghasts, or wights etc? Zombies are supposed to be the bottom of the undead food chain, just above skeletons.

Dire lich's are supposed to own..

ShadowDemen
07-10-2006, 11:28 PM
Liches and zombie are different. Zombies are reanimated dead, liches are those who were alive, but made themselves undead. Thus, all liches have the power of necromancers, but not all zombies do.

And to the snip how the lore should be implemented in the world, it'll be kinda hard for devs to have hidden facts about everything in the game, without taking a lot longer making it.

Jarlaxle[mezzo]
07-11-2006, 12:40 AM
Yea the liches should be the masters of the undead.

Kyofu
07-11-2006, 02:34 AM
Ya I guess that's possible, that's why I didn't mention vampires - They are undead, but not animated corpses. I thought Liches were animated though. Regardless, I just hope there are lots of other cool types of undead.

Harvest
07-11-2006, 03:39 AM
Well vampires really arent undead, they just live forever. At no point do they actually die, but they become Vampires by either magical or Viral means. Depending on who you talk to.

ShadowDemen
07-11-2006, 04:23 AM
Liches don't actually die, per se, but they do put their soul into another container. Thus, in old mythology, the only way to kill one is to destroy the container that has the soul, which could be anything from a needle to an hourglass.

LanMandragon
