As we all know, music can accompany any situation, and indeed it does. One notable situation in which music plays an important role are at clubs/rave clubs/other forms of socializing in which many of you dorks do not participate in.

Music is especially geared towards a specific moodset, with emo/punk/metal music geared towards strange kids thinking their special and alienated from society and "not with them", rap being geared towards those kids who feel superior and cool to kids like those and dance/trance/rave music geared towards people who genuinely like to dance/rave.

These songs are characterized by being upbeat and invoking fun, vibrant moods and often accompanies euphoric moods brought about by artificial means if you know what I'm saying.

So post your favourite dance/electronic/trance/rave songs.

One of my favourites is this classic work by Paul Oakenfold. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UphfrPANJk)

Who can adequately describe trance without including DJ Tiesto, with a notable work being Forbidden Paradise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYWYYvax9yM)

And for the non-trance types, does anyone remember this classic dance hit from Usher. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiXbRBS5Z58)

I'm really taking an interest into Jay Sean, with a good song being Do You Remember (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a81eP2E8MEQ&feature=channel)

And a non-urban dance song, nonetheless amazingly awesome an invokes a nice Daft Punk-esque feeling in Gigi D'Agostino's The Riddle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DcfXVL0mh0&feature=fvst)

Yeah I don't really listen to trance songs with lyrics in them but my absolute favorite, Southern Sun, has lyrics.

Examples of trance/techno songs I like that have no lyrics include:

Has a calm feel to it.

Too many to name. Not really a big trance fan unless it is heavy on the 303 and 909, 1993-95.. mostly german and belgian. Pretty much the sound of the brooklyn rave scene from that era. I will always remember my first STORMrave, it was in an abandoned mustard factory. Just pure insanity from midnight to noon the next day, never heard a mobile sound system quite as good.

This is mostly jungle but I tossed a good hardcore song in there. Most of my favorite tracks are on vinyl and I have been to lazy to rip them.

There your seeing what used to be one of the hottest clubs here (drug wise).Mind blowing party and apparat made a set using only his music productions.Whats amazing is that in parties he smokes lots and lots of weed and keeps jumping around unlike most potheads.

Soulwax/2 many Dj's put some good tracks in the late 90's, never got to see them do a live PA unfortunately.

I don't know why it would make you feel cool though

I like how you trash 2 types of music by associating them with children and then try to say trance/techno is good, lol. In true forumfall spirit.

But seriously, all that shit sounds the same.

I really don't understand how someone can say DNB/jungle and techno sound the same but oh well.

Guess you are just like the people that say all rock music sounds the same. Do you also think that the bass and the 6 string sound the same?

Who says all rock sounds the same? I may not know what DNB/jungle sound like, so maybe they sound different. All I know is is that it pisses me right off when I think something is techno and it's trance or w/e. Same with different types of metal (a lot of which I like but can't be bothered to differentiate between all 50 types).

I guess it just depends on how invested you are in any genre of music. If you don't really dig something I guess I can see how it would be difficult to pick up on differences in subgenres.

I'm not all that into the music he spins nowadays, either. However, Hawtin has always made minimalistic Techno. He has always spun minimalistic tracks.

Richie Hawtin created the hype for minimal music there was a few years back, with his label M_NUS. Also, he's still there to push the technology of DJing forward. Anyway, much of the "Minimal" created today is not true to the term and sounds simply bad.

That doesn't mean there wouldn't be any good minimalistic Techno left, though. Just visit Berghain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqWKIWkauDI). If you thought Plastikman was awesome back in the day, you'd be blown away by the club.

Something changed at some point, The Hawtin I am referring to mainly is the 93/94 era hawtin, before minimal was officially a genre.

I know what you mean. Things have changed indeed. I just wanted to point out that it's not exactly a phase he's going through, as he was basically the originator of the hype around "Minimal" and played a big part in the whole neo-minimal movement emerging by having a very definite sound on his label.

He just doesn't want to get stuck into the past, I guess. He pretty much succeeded in moving forward, too. I mean, he's still the most sought after Techno DJ.
