Robes, shitty little garments.
As it stands now, you can have same elemental prot with cloth armor set than you can with Simple Robes. This in one word is: Insane.
In addition of getting the same elemental prot, you get all the other prots too, including arrow, piercing, blidgeoning and slashing.
Robes should be a garment against Elemental and/or all magic attacks.
By increasing the protection they now have to tenfold (yes tenfold, Simple Robes giving 10 elem. prot.) as you wouldnt have decent armor in them. Even if the protections would be multiplied with 5 or even 3, I would be happy. Its insane that you have better elemental protection in banded, than in "magic" robes.
TL;DR: Robes should have at least 5 prot on elemental def.

TBH even if they gave you 100% protection against all magic schools they still would get worn because you'd just end up up dead with an arrow in your back, which is as it should be.
As long as bone armour and unburden exist there is no point to these overpriced dressing gowns

Some robe love, like some rare ore robes would be nice.
Give them a ton of magic protection, but little melee...

best thing to do with robes is not only increase magic protections but have them increase mana by like 100 or so or increase mana regeneration tons. they'd at the very least be useful for pve.

actually made this suggestion a while back.
robes & hoods should give a progressive bonus to mana regen and/or mana pool depending on the quality of the robe/hood.
robes & hoods should also be enchantable AND tranmutable for either bonus dmg or bonus prot for a specific school.

Shouldnt you link it then?

Mana regen and great elemental resistance could very well be the effect of a Robe Transmutation, so in essence:
What is needed to fix Robes is to grant them 3 Enchantment slots, like Weapons. (And add one Enchantment slot for Hoods, too.)

IMO: I don't think most mages have problems with running out of mana. Would seem to be close to useless of a buff.

You must not be a mage.

Been thinking a bit, and for Transmuted Robes to have a Specializing effect, a heavy Mana Efficiency effect for the element of their area. (Fire robes reducing Mana costs for Fire spells by... 1/4?) That would bring it in line with Transmute staffs.
And add improved Magic resistances in general, greatly improved resistance against the element of the Robe itself, and the ability to enchant Hood and Robe for Piercing, Bludgeoning and Slashing damage, and we will have pretty nice protective abilities.

Or maybe I have plenty of int/wis and mana regen. Guess it's biased.
