Not bad. The character almost blends into the background a bit too much. I would pop the name and the words a bit more and maybe make the character or the background one hue.

I like the fonts, especially the one used for the name and it would be cool if the castle? took up a bit more of the background.

All in all not a bad sig.

Also can someone explain, why most of you create jpg instead of gif or png? I was having a discussion with a guildmate, he kept stating that gif is the most used for signatures (partly because of transparency). I told him that gif is shit quality and that if it is not neccesary (because of the same background color in each post) it is better to do jpg, and that that jpg is also the most used for signatures (atleast on these forums).

Anyway I got a little bit annoyed by him :ohno: because he refused to accept / believe what I said hehehe. Furion if you read this :lmao: dont feel attacked, I just want to know what others say about this subject :D

I am thinking maybe this is not the correct topic to ask this in... If so perhaps I should make a new thread on it.. what do you think?

7.5 It's simple and clear, which I like. The font on the left looks a little blocky, and the diablo font on the right is just too overused.

PNGs would be best if Microsoft would fix their bugged PNG display engine in IE, since it's lossless and supports true alpha transparency. Unfortunately they won't until IE7. JPG is usually better than GIF because GIF only supports 256 colors - not a problem on some sigs, on others it causes some dithering and a lack of clarity.

(Check out my animated (http://www.duchyofwessex.org/sigs/nira2an.gif) version - the loop isn't perfect but it's a neat effect).

Celerity very nice looking sig, I think if you made the border the same grey as the background color of the forums it would look better, that's just an opinion.

There has only been a few of my signatures even remotely focusing on being 'real' as opposed to apparently "drawn/cartoony". I'd say 80% of the signatures on here look cartoony by your standards, including your own. :)

I like the half transparent thing, but the box looks a bit plain and you could have gone with a better archer, instead of that Robin Hood/Link from Zelda clone.

But the sig is nicely made otherwise, and I like the 3D feel you get of the archer "sticking out" of the box towards the screen a bit.

You have come a long way with your sigs imo, back in the day they seemed a bit streched or just off somehow none of that now tho, it's good shit. Altho i would not have gone for those borders and red lighting also it's a shame the eyes are cut off just above it. All easily fixed tho and nothing major. 8/10

As people already mentioned before, GIF being worse than JPG because of the 256 colour limit. too bad, JPG is a lossy format, so, if it is not your final product, dont save it as JPG and always save a copy of the final product as RAW or any other lossless format(PNG). anyone heard of JPEG2000?

As for formats...
Unless you are dealing with transparencies, PNG and GIF are not worth using.
As mentioned before, PNG-24 isnt recognized by IE, so thats not a good choice for a wide range of viewers.
Unfortunetly .TGA isnt a web recognized file either. It is by far the best choice for saving transparencies.

Until something better comes along, I'll just have to keep changing background colors for various message boards. What really sucks is Boards with alternating colors.

My first shot at an all .jpg format sig . I went the minimalist route to make it a bit quieter colorwise and maybe give it a bit more impact as an image versus using garrish font efx to punch it out . Working with .jpgs for me is a bit more challenging .

I hear IE7 handles .png formats better now , and .TGA, isn't that mostly for games , etc ?Forgive my ignorance on those . If the .TGA format is truly "the shit" for transparencies , why is it not used more often ? Size differences ?

btw. New sig is 18kb . Helluva diet, eh wot?

.tga is mostly used for games. It is by far the best way to save transparent images, but like I said, its not a web-based file format. So it can't be used for what we want it for.
But I used it extensively when I was 'skinning' stuff for KotOR2. Its like saving a .psd without all the additional layer info.

Yeah, its the second signature I've included my own face instead of borrowing a render. The other one was a close-up profile picture thing. I had to include more of a new fantastic looking armor I found for this signature though.

It's really green, and I had to look up "inevitably" to make sure it was used right, because that is awkward phrasing.

The character reminds me of Eddie though, so that's a plus. Still, something about the text bugs me. Maybe because it doesn't pop at all from the background. It's readable, but seems like it needs something.

And I rather like Tonka's sig. Sometimes, plain is better. It's not too busy with alot of gratuitous background and the text is solid, romanesque legion in feel.

Anyways, yours gets a 2/10. It's just horrible. From your avatar, I assume you plan on playing a Mahrim. You can sort of see one in the far left of your signature, but you have the dwarf racial weapon in the middle. Most Mahrim won't have that weapon. Above the hammer is a blur, at best. Probably of a dry plains or a really ugly sky. Under it is...something. You also have a skull, and an ugly one at that.
