Alright so I suspect alot of these threads to pop up, asking wether they should resub or buy the game (if they didnt already).
I'll tell you how I've experienced this game. My first Darkfall experience was in beta so it was completely different. I think my first fight ever was against Infamous Helba and she even frapsed that, in beta.
Back then a banded or scale set was very rare and so was a mount or a rank 40 weapon. I had alot of fun exploring beta and in overall the surroundings seemed very nice. I decided to buy it.
I skipped the first 1 and a half week from launch because I just couldnt buy it. People who were there remember the endless F5ing probably. When I was finally in-game it was completely different from now, I agree. Mounts were still rare, so were scale sets and good weapons. Before the game launched I hooked up with Duchy of Wessex and together we all build a city and we went on big wars. I got to tell you grouping up and riding out with 200 people lined up in 3 or 4 lines all wearing heavy armor on horses is one of the most epic things you can see, although theres alot more epic things in the game. It certainly is possible to have fights with over 300 people in it, I think the biggest fights were over the 1000s.
Since the magic patch or even abit before things changed though. There werent alot of people playing anymore and things turned small scale. Sieges were, instead of 500 people maybe 100 people fighting in em. Thats nothing bad to be honest.
The bad part is that everybody who had money (which was very easy to get) got their magic maxed out. Before the patch this was almost not possible unless you were a Cairnie or an Afghan (thats why they made it so easy so that the rest could catch in on those). So yeah, every player without any skill became a maxed out magician and people were only wearing bone sets instead of heavy armor, because the only fights you would have were magic fights. Everybody could hit for shitloads and everybody could hit you with such big AoE ranges they didnt need to aim. It sucked to be honest.
Now it all changed. Today I witnessed scale or even banded becoming usefull again. I saw groups riding around again, looking for a fight, and I saw ships roaming the coast looking for epic monsters of villages or whatever. Heavy armor was worn, arrows were crafted and reagents and bone armor were sold for cheap or thrown/given away. Magic hurts you now for alot less, and thats great.
So this was a story. I will tell you now whý I think Darkfall is such an amazing game instead of giving you a 8 month long review of what happend in the game.
Basicly, this is the game you want to play if you enjoy the rush of combat. Words cant describe some battles I've been in, which were so intense I kept thinking I was gonna die but I didnt, and that felt even better. The fights in this game are not like the ones in other MMOs. You will fight for something you have (like gear, mounts, gold or even cities or villages) and dont want to lose. You will kill monsters for gold because you need the gold to keep being able to protect your city, village, friends, whatever. You can truely do almost everything.
Now into more technical things and shit that's been changed for resubbing people. Archery is a huge factor right now as you know. There are hardly any PvPers around the starter areas (there's still alot of em, but not around the parts you usually go as a starter, although I advise you to keep an eye out anyway). Cities are reasonable safe because of the improved guard towers, siege mechanics have been ajusted in the right way. Ships, warhulks and cannons are becoming a major factor as well. Mobs are a shitload smarter and it really gives you the creeps sometimes. The surrounding looks fantastic, wether you walk around in the desert of Rubaiyat being scared to death by a big red dragon flying above you throwing fire at you, or walking in Yssam's jungles, everything feels very realistic and just generally looks great.
I write this so that I hope new players or old players join the game with me. Dont listen to the idiots who decide that a game sucks before they played it. Look around the forums abit for tips like joining a clan early on.
This game is the best game of the year. No Aion or whatever can compete. Its not a game for everybody cause yes you will lose shit. But nothing feels better then standing over a corpse and looting somebody's fantasticly crafted armor.
Here's my 2 cents for the community in the hope it will grow as big as it was before the magic patch.
