- The Sentinel's Advance -

Leaves and branches gently slapped against the agile figure as he sprinted through the woods, his confident strides never missing a beat across the forested terrain. Cloaked in dark browns and greens, he seemed but an extension of the colors through which he ran. Indeed, he belonged here- he knew this run like the back of his hand, had mapped the entire region in his memory, knew every stream and rock.

Today, however, was different from those casual journeys through the wilds. Today his orders were simple: to eliminate all in his path, effectively blinding the enemy to the regiment's march.

So caught up in his thoughts was he that the snapping of a branch just ahead of nearly caught him off guard. Nearly. Spinning quickly to the side, his hand flying to the longbow at his shoulder, he pressed his back against the nearest tree and waited. Just as quickly as the thought that this could be one of his fellow Rangers arose did he brush it aside. The Sentinels of Lycia were too well trained to break formation, much less make such a racket.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of an Orc Warrior several paces away from the tree. His breath caught in his throat as he swiftly knocked the longbow and took aim. One... two... three...

Another arrow was already in flight as the first slammed between the warrior's shoulderblades. By the time the beast managed to twist around, it was simply too late- for the third feathered bolt was already sliding deep into its throat.

The figure spun about, his dark green cloak hiding his features as he continued on his way. The enemy knew one human was about- one human cloaked in dark green, little realizing a dozen similarly dressed men and women flanked the advance of a much larger force.

The Ranger allowed the corner of his mouth to twitch upwards, hinting at a smile.
