If you have more than 4gb of RAM (or, more realistically, 3gb, because your hardware needs to be addressable as well) then you'll want 64-bit.

Though Darkfall is a 32-bit application, and many will say it's pointless for that reason, consider this:

You have 8gb of ram. You have lots of programs running using up ~2gb of ram.

In a 32-bit system (without PAE enabled) you only have ~3.2gb available (4gb minus whatever the system needs to address the memory on your hardware), 2gb used up by applications... darkfall only has 1.2gb left over to use.

In a 64-bit system, you have 6gb free, and only four of it can be used by darkfall.. so you end up with 2gb used, up to 4gb to be used by darkfall, and 2gb left chillin'.

Now, if you can get PAE working (pretty sure windows 7 supports PAE well, just like the linux server kernels do) then you can actually address all 8gb of ram on a 32-bit system, but it isn't as efficient to do so as on an actual 64-bit system.

So, you won't notice any real gains other than having less things fighting over your memory if you have > ~3gb of ram... less than that, no difference at all, unless somehow your graphics card has more efficient 64-bit drivers or something like that.

TLDR: if you have more than 3gb of RAM, install 64bit (x86_64), otherwise it's pointless, as far as you're concerned anyway, not to just install 32bit (x86).

EDIT: I could have just told you this in vent tonight, smurfzilla... didn't look @ OP's name.

I'm on Win 7 64 bit using DFO and no issues, I have 4GB of Ram and a multicore CPU so really why not? I can run DFO just the same on 64 or 32 bit, like the guy said it depends on your computer specs.

64 bit will become the new main stream.. and should be that way for a long time.. Since 16 exabytes of ram are currently non-existant for that matter they don't even that hard drives that big.. as of yet haha.. ( 16 exabytes is the maximum amount of ram a 64bit computer can run.. 2^64 = 2^60, which is a exabyte such as 2^40 is a terabyte, left over with 2^4 = 16 so.. 16 Exabytes.. Crazy to think about )

Definitely get windows 7 64 bit if you have a new PC, because the parts will be designed to work with it. I'm running 64 bit windows 7 and it runs beautifully.

But several people I know who have PC components which are more than year or two old have had compatibility problems.

after reading forums and whatnot about this, i've heard a lot of talk about compatibility issues with programs + 64bit. is this really a problem?
