View Full Version : Ping Issues(NA)
For some reason I am getting worse ping on the NA server than I did on the EU.(East Coaster USA) When I played on NA like a month back i would get around like 90-100 ping, and on EU I usually got around 105 so it was like a 10-15 ping difference usually. But ever since the xfers my ping on NA is usually around 120-140 which is pretty odd. The only difference really that has changed is that I am now using Windows 7. Is there some sort of Network option I should check/uncheck or change to help get a bit better ping? My windows firewall is disabled and I have no ANTI VIRUS running. Thanks.

My ping has also increased after transfers and I am close to the server. I usually get 30ms, now it is up to 100 on average and spikes frequently. I don't know what the answer is. I am going through my ISP first since my clanmates are not having the same issues. The game is unplayable for me now and I am extremely frustrated by this.

Did either of you copy over EU files into the US folder? working on a theory.
Yes, I'm thinking about uninstalling eu and na clients and reinstalling na with a fresh install.

tell us if that works - atm our ping is okay( eu players ) during the day ( 180 ) but in the evening it fucks up to like 220-300 which is about to be unplayable

It could also be server related. Maybe the increased player base is causing a little more of a strain on their servers or connections. This would increase your ping too.

If it was the server, more people would be complaining about horrible ping.

I am on east coast of US as well. I averaged 110-120 ping on eu and now i get about 135-145 on NA. I also see frequent spikes to about 300 every 5-10 minutes.
I copied the files from the EU folder to the NA folder.
Anyway to reduce my ping would be worth the time and effort IMO. Keep this thread going!
I will let everyone know today if the fresh install helps at all. By the way incase it matters my ISP is comcast.

I came over when the NA server started, and had an average of 50 ping.
Now I'll either get 70-75 ping, or 100-110 ping. Never 50.
So, the server must be having problems with the new players coming over or somethin.

Right, I used to get 90 ping a month back on an alt acc, than first day of xfers 115, now 130-145 on average.

My ping is all over the place on NA and was much better on EU... I have been running a pingplot (visual traceroute) to the NA server and EU servers for several days and have been noticing huge ping spikes on NA and not EU... I think Cali datacenters blow the balls and they should have went with Chicago imo
East Coast
ISP Suddenlink
NA ping 150+ and spikes to 500 regularly
EU ping was 125 and was pretty damn constant.
Let us know if the full NA client reinstall works Keno... but I don't think it is worth your time tbh :(
edit: BTW I had pingplots running to NA prior to transferring and back then my pings were approximately 90ms.

Keno you may see a bit of an increase in ping which will come from having a clean running system, but as you see others have also noticed an increase in ping since the transfers took place and their ping increase is within a similar range to yours.
I think its just server side for the most part.. The routeing from east to west coast is always going to be a tricky one and based on which routing stations you bounce through you will have days when your ping is up or down. TBH my ping isn't so bad until I hit California, they have some screwed up routing that's for sure.
I know the host that AV uses has data centers on the east coast.. I just wish they would use them.

They should have known illegal aliens would be the ones hosting this server.

I have at least 2 people in my clan with the same problem.
They had alts on NA and the ping was fine. Now they transferred and the ping jumped like 30-50 points.

*sigh* Comcrap will probably be a common denominator for many, they have their own issues. I have been fighting them for weeks now, they just made a new change in my area (West Coast, Washington) and my pings fluctuate across the board on network connections.
It can't be purely a Comcast issue, though, since I have friends on other ISP's and connection types with similar prolems. A friend in Central Washington, for instance, has a fully fiber connection and still hits a 60-80 fluctuating ping.

My ping appears to have stabilized. I am on charter cable. It still spikes on occasion, but for the most part the game is back to playable. I did not transfer, I have always been NA.
So either my ISP or AV, or some bottleneck in between, I can't really figure out which.

well it seemed like it was gonna work... but then as i was running around my ping would go up to 300, and then my ping started crawling up to 30k. ridiculous.
For the record, I did the uninstall of the clients and a fresh reinstall, and still high ping. No difference.

My ISP is Optonline. Just transferred today and I was pinging a nice 96-102 earlier in the day and now my ping is all over the place 300-700.
Not very happy about transferring atm..

Mine likes to go up to about 300ms from 100 whenever active spell casting, etc is going on, IE Enemies...figures....not very happy either.

same. 90 at transfer, 200+ and hitting as high as 500 for minutes at a time.
Was fine for about 3 days...today was the first I'd noticed anything higher than 140...and even then that would be for a few seconds only prior to today.
I use time warner.

i doubt the high pings have anything to do with the extra players on the server now. when NA was released there were tons and tons of people playing, probably more than there are now, and the pings were lower back then. it is kinda weird how a bunch of people have the same problem (me too) but a bunch dont have the problem.

I suspect there is a server or router misbehaving along the way and it is just a matter of back luck with regards to getting routed through it.

Anyone have an IP to NA so I can try and sort this out with my ISP? Hopefully they will be nice enough to get rid of the problem router and change my route.

I have the issue about it also and noticed it around the time of transfer maybe alittle before, it's gotten to the point where it forces Connection Loss on me now if it ping spikes more then 500, I thought it was an internal problem, replaced my routor, bypassed my switch and just today has my cable company (roadrunner) replace my modem, this problem is starting to piss me off, I've allowed everything through firewall, ran game as admin, opened ports in routor etc... the problem is on server side and I have summited a ticket for this like 6 months ago the answer I received back was "it will take sometime to investigate the matter we will get back to you" loving the speedy 6 month service...
My computer specs are way more then enough to play this game and I've done mutiple tests which all seems to point to server related issues.

They're configured to ignore ICMP packets, this has nothing to do with any in-game problems.

How did you guys find the IP of the NA-1 server?
Can someone pm me the IP of NA-1 and EU-1 to do some traceroutes for me?
I don't know if I will stay on EU-1 or transfer to NA-1 that's why I need them.
Thank you :)

I have this problem also. I got a better ping on EU-1 than I do on NA-1 and I'm on the east coast USA. I sent a support ticket in and all they said is that my ping is fine and that's normal that I get a standard ping of 140-150ms? I don't believe that bullshit if I got a better ping on EU-1.

in EU i have the same problem = suddenly one day my ping start to wave all the time between 100 - 2000. (my normal ping before was 46-50). Its strange because everything work good = other net games, other downloading etc only in DFO my ping is like a shit.
