I keep getting this message while playing DF. My game will temporarily freeze, go to a black screen, and then return to normal and this message will pop up. Its becoming more and more common and its getting really frustrating. I searched this problem up and everyone said they found "the" solution, and i tried an update from microsoft that said it fixed this exact problem, but when i downloaded it, it said it "does not apply to this computer".

Im out of ideas, and im out of patience, please someone help me.

What video card do you have? (Exact model)

Had driver crash problem on Win7 with Nvidia 9650M GT. Had to disable PowerMizer through registry to fix problems. If you have the same card I can give you a link to the tutorial on how to do that.

Its hard for me to navigate vista, but i found something called a "display adapter", and thats NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295, so is that the type of video card i have?

The obvious, tried beta drivers? Or older drivers?

Check homepage of your graphic card (Nvidia or ATI).
Annd how is the temperature inside your PC? If its high, then the crashes are nothing new.

The game isn't crashing -- its freezing for ~8 seconds, black screening, and then going back to normal. But it has happened to me as often as twice within 5 minutes.

I had this exact problem. I very rarely experience anomalies with my PC. So I was perplexed as to what this could be.

After doing some research I found that it is not a DF only problem, but an issue with your power options in vista/7.

Go to control panel, power options. Pick whatever plan you use, then go to change plan settings. From there click the change advanced power options.

Go to PCI express drop down, link state power management. Turn this OFF.

This has solved my problems entirely with this bug.

Enjoy.

I tried this, and turned off link state power management, but just had it happen two more times in a row within a few minutes :(.

I hate vista so much..

I had this issue with my 9800GX2, I now have the same card you do and also have the issue once in awhile, but it mostly happens when I play in windows mode and have a Google Chrome browser running a web page that has flash in it.

For me, I think its a conflict with my X-Fi.

While investigating the issue with with my 9800GX2 card, my sound card stopped working. I removed it from the system, but my 9800GX2 card stopped working entirely.

Once I replaced the video card and had it working without issues for 2 weeks with onboard motherboard sound, I tested my X-FI in another computer, I decided to reformat and re-install my X-FI in the system.

At first, everything seemed to work, however, after a reboot or startup, the sound sometimes didn't work. Sometimes the driver was loaded, but most of the time windows wouldn't load the sound driver. I had to clean and re-install the sound drivers each time I rebooted to get the sound card working.

Eventually, this problem went away automagically, but the nvlddmkm issue re-appeared for the first time since I had removed the X-FI and replaced my video card.

I m less lucky then you though, I get a black screen, then on to a blue screen and a reboot. Vista tells me its a video driver issue and to update them, so waiting on NVidia's next release and hoping.

I started having this problem suddenly last night aswell..
I've got Geforce 9500 GT
had my first ever "random crash" and been geting "driver has stoped functioning" randomly since.. after which I allways have to reboot :bang:
mostly happens when I alt-tab out of game and back in.. funny thing is a friend of mine got the same crash at the exact same time and started having the same problem afterwards aswell..

I smell a ninja update gone bad :p

I had this on a GTX250 with the new drivers - the ones that mention DFO. I went back to the 190.38 driver and not had this error since (1 month).

If you google this you will get every kind of tip from changing settings to underclocking to perform ancient indian rituals. For every suggestion I read, I also read at least one 'it worked' and one 'it didn't'.

I never had this problem before the new drivers so I went back to the older ones and, of course, it fixed it.

I had this problem while running DF as well. Black screens for some seconds were everything stopped. Sometimes random sqares filling up my screen, and decolorazation of the screen. (bunch of random bright colors)

There seems to be many different ways it happens since Ive read loads of different fixes for different people, but for me I believe it was the powercable to my GPU, and overheating which DF is known to do.
I switched the powercable and opened up the sides of my case for better cooling and I havent had the problems since.

Happened to me. I tried getting all the new drivers but the problem only went away once I downloaded the latest vista service pack. Give it a try.

Oh and I also switched power outlet cause the one I was using was shared with dual monitors and my sound setup, so my beast of a box was probably underfed.

GTX 295 here, same Problem!

It is driver and game related.

I also have the 9800 GX2 in quad sli mode. I was excited by the new drivers to get quad sli working with Darkfall. Got 400 fps and was looking forward to getting shadows back, lol. Then I started getting the driver fails. I also have the X-fi sound card and am experiencing the same conlict seeming problems with the other post like mine above. At first I thought it was heat. I put all fans on my system up to 100% and run the box with the case open and a 12 inch fan blowing on it. It especially seems to have really bad sound problems and freezes associated with sounds when I have ventrilo up and running as well.

I am thinking of trying to run things with onboard sound, but have no I/O panel for it. I think that the drivers are just bad... both for the X-fi and the new batch from nvidia. I even wiped my drives and reinstalled vista 64 and new drivers and updated software. The problem persists. If I go back to the old driver I lose sli and awsome graphics. I don't know if it's a memory bandwidth issue, driver conflict, heat, or conflicting issues with the X-fi card. I go through about 3-6 bluescreens within a 6-10 hour period. All crashes are directly related to the invidia driver.

One question: how many of you have had this problem with vista, and how many of you have had this problem with windows 7? I really want to attribute it in general to a fault with vista, fuck it away, and pray the problem goes away when i get windows 7, because it happened to me again tonight while i was frapsing a battle and it took me 5 minutes to remove the black screen when i tabbed back in, and i had to stop frapsing.

I am really fucking sick of this and im really fucking sick of vista. I would rather play on my shitty virus-ridden xp on EU with a 220 ping than on vista with the best of computer and server conditions.

I was having this issue with my newish computer as well, running with 2 Radeon 4850s (512mb per). It turned out that it was overheating, due to poor air flow in the tower itself. I burned out 2 video cards before the retards at the computer store thought to add another fan internally.

Also, make sure you open your case and use compressed air on it. If your video cards are overheating, there is a good chance your internal fan/heat sinks are clogged with dust, which is why the video cards are shutting off to let the temperature drop.

Also, you should be able to monitor your video card temperature in the nVidia settings. This will let you know when dust has built up :p

Im beginning to suspect it's something overheating, because today i tried farming, and this black screen was occurring anywhere between every 40 seconds to every 10 seconds, and it was incredibly frustrating, but it made me think that the more i actually played Darkfall (as opposed to just sitting in town) the more demand i was putting on my computer over all, which might correlate to a higher graphics card temperature or something.

I downloaded speedfan but i dont know how to read it or use it.

On the theory of it being something overheating, what could i do about it besides compressed air (which would be difficult for me to get done in my circumstances)?

My friends suggested it might possibly be monitor drivers; i looked at my device manager and did an automatic search for new drivers but it said i had up to date drivers for all my display devices and monitor.
