Strange Error while playing?

I was playing Darkfall and then all of a sudden, i got an error message saying that my data file was corrupt and that it will re-validate on restart.

So I am currently restarting the client, and as it said it is now validating all my
.sfad files.

Can anyone think of a reason this may happen?

EDIT: Im new and lost my only mount because of it...

The game does not check the resource database every time you start unlike some games, so it's possible to get an error in some obscure part of the data and not notice it for a long time. Most likely cause is a hard drive error.

You should scan your hard drive for errors. If the problem keeps happening you have a dodgy hard drive.

Also scan for worms/viruses/trojans.

Defrag your hard drive.

Clean up your registry.
