View Full Version : Archery Build visable or pointless in darkfall?

I am now 4 or so hours away from entering darkfall and have already put a lot of thought in my initial build ..
I have always really enjoyed the sweet precision and skill of dealing ungodly like dmg from afar with a bow instead of the chaos of melee. However most mmo's ive played forced me to do this in a form of a rigid class like hunter or ranger, forcing me to take all the other attributes and skills accompanying that class.
Now in darkfall i won't have that problem since i can mold my character as i wish with no more class restrictions, problem is ive heard alot of bad things about focusing in archery in this game over something more powerful like magic for ranged dmg.
So is this true or do you think this will be changing when the expansion comes out?

Magic dominates the field right now.
But you will see that even currently archery has it's uses. Soon the next expansion will drop which hopefully brings archery more up to par.
But remember it's always good to have magic aswell as archery for the heals, buffs and utility spells.
edit:
Also don't forget that to max out archery currently takes but a fraction of the time/cost that magic does to completely max out like some people have.

Here is a good build you can start with while waiting for the expansion:
Archery
One 2h weapon skill
Lesser and greater magery, witchcraft, spellchanting.
magic for rend, needles, heals, buffs, debuffs etc.
Pray for the expansion to be good to us archers (and it looks like it).
Welcome to Darkfall.

You still need to level your Dex, and that takes much longer than maxing the archery skills.

Pure one thing: fail.
Mix of a few things: win!
You need to have melee skill...even if you are a caster.
Even if you are an archer you need melee skill and some casting skill.
If you are a melee player your enemys will run away thus leaving you with no kills :(

And leveling dex takes much much more than leveling int.

looks pretty visable to me.
being serious though..yet it is, probably not so much in 1 v 1's though (not if your enemy has uber high magic).
upcoming expansion will only make archery better.

i have 4 higher magic schools at 100, and depending on the details of the patch i might put it all on ice and go heavy armor, melee/archery

You'll at least want to know how to swing a melee weapon and cast basic spells (conversions), but using archery as your primary damage source is quite possible, and should be more so after the expansion.

You're always going to want the basic spells of magery (Mana to Stamina, Stamina to Health, Launch, Mana Bolt), but I'm planning to go mostly archery and melee after the expansion, with a long-term goal of getting the beastly utility in higher end Greater Magic.

What is your name in game? Mine is Maiden Voyage, and I welcome you to Darkfall. If you EVER have any questions about the game, hit me up. I consider myself relatively knowledgeable of the game and it's mechanics. Best of luck to ya, and I'd love to see if you live it to what you sound like you are, that is a potential decent player. ;).

You play the game right?
I do, do you Mr. No-Subscriber??
Please find me 5 people with over 70 dex.
Now find me 5 people with over 70 int.
Which one was easier?? Ah, that's what i thought.

say your makeing a 'build' one more time and ima slap you so hard...
and to all u archery isnt viable people, have u ever seen a duel between an arher with good aim and a 'mage' who doest have 6 nukes to cycle? (1 school, + utilities)
they're sweet fights :S and the archer wins alot, usualy decided by terrain and which uses it better
btw this is what we're getting v soon, either oppsoing spells will cooldown together, or every spell of opposing schools. mage-killer was just pointless...

archery will get love next patch, pure archer will be hard but might work... best to take utility magic and melee along with it tho

Do what you like if your pure archery does not work you can add or train any other skill as you see fit.
If you restrict yourself by doing a pure build, then that is your problem and choice and you will soon be well aware of the issues.
