OK, this is one of the ways that the Sithra, or whatever it's called is going to look. Dose anyone have any good images of sword hilts that they like? What ever image format it's in, I don't care as long as I can see the hilt. Take a picture of a sword hilt you have at home that well work to. But this is going to be the basic design idea. The sword the woman "Ivy" is holding is the basic design concept.

Sorry Bensidhe but I don't like those pirate avatars. The first one with the skull is decent but could need some extra work. The other two it's hard to see those should be ships. Too much use of alpha channel or color stuff I think. Anyway just my personal opinion...

Hey, nothing wrong with constructive criticism and I can see your points . Those kind of thoughts give me ideas for other approaches to what I am doing. I have been through 3 hour critiques with my profs and peers and its good to see someone with a practiced eye give an honest opinion . Keep 'em coming Posiedon, we can take all the direction , etc, that you can give and put it to good use . Good on ya :)

Finally got around to making a submittable version of what I was looking for. Anyway here it is, lemme know what ya'll think:

Edit: btw I know that the shadow and claws don't really watch up, but this way seemed to give a much better effect.

Frankly im just not that much of a fan of this moon with the claws thing. I plan on going Mahrim but I haven't seen anything competitive with the other races.

Going just on what you have, I would say its good stuff, and that its competitive with the rest of the avatars. But me personally I would like to see someone try something very different then the claws on the moon.

I think it's the best mahirim racial weapon avatar yet.

I hope its not out place for me to critisize seeing how i havent really been involved and this looks pretty good. but i think if you could partially design the craters in the moon to be a wolves face..not just a plain face ..something that shows the race for what they are since you have the weapons out or put a faded wolf like in the avatars designed or just eyes/fangs it would really bring it to life, but thats just me, nice work tho.:D

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/NoelG/werewolfavatar1.jpg
This i really really like due to not only the claws but they expression..if you were to work the coloring and outlining to make it look less like a sketch a bit more it would be exellent..still very good work tho..my personal fav..also it resembles a bat a little more than a wolf to me..but just might be me

Just my opinions tho hope i didnt ruffle feathers @.@;;

I like the first the most, the second has the head blocked by the orb, don't know if the Alfar is in front or behind, but it looks like it's behind because of the shadows that you created. The general shape of the Alfar in the third is very nice. I like the touch of the spikes that come out horizontally from the, what looks to be armor. Plus the sword was a nice touch; I like the idea of the curve on it, like it's still in its scabbard but has that katana curve to it. Over all very well done.

I should add that I know its not a katana, just that it has the curve of it, like your weapon. Maybe a second one of the same design in the right hand, right hand as in the right hand of the model. Just a thought?

I agree, the first one is the best angle.

The model is actually dual wielding ilshards but the angle makes it look like a sword and the "spike" is actually the top of one of the ilshards.

Good thought on the armor though, When I get around to modeling the armor I will create it with the signature curved alfar spikes.

I did some searching and I was unable to find a screenshot/art/lore of the Alfar swords but I think katana style swords make sense. Once I get around to separate mage/warrior sets I will probably add those.

Have you ever seen any design for an Alfar shield ?

I'll keep an eye out for it.

Álfar (singular: álfr) is the Old Norse word for elves.

This is what I was able to dig up in a short search, but no pictures on the net. As for the shape of the shield I have no clue.

1.The symbol of the Black Robe Brotherhood is the Orb of Melek (see Alfar art and architecture, below), which adorns any shield or tabard used by members of the brotherhood.

2.The orb of Melek is a golden circle containing a field of black broken by arkinwood-like blotches of dark purple. The orb is surrounded by jagged, golden rays that resemble stylized radiation, and have the general shape of elongated versions of the letter

No, but those have a neat quality . They look like woodcuts . Desaturated, polarized and then embossed ? That fits with the theme of DF , kinda dark , not very polished and a "handmade" look about it . Keep at it Krush . Did you submit those to Brannoc ?

I really wish i had, but no i can't boast that level of skill. The background is an actual photograph of a lightning setting cut down, the painted wolf is credit to another artist of whos name i can't find (hence why the wolf looks quite cartoony against the background), and the header is FlamingText.com (www.flamingtext.com)

I do a little bit of artwork myself though, just not to that degree.

Give it shot . Even if you don't have a Tablet, try drawing it on paper, or painting it , then scan your work in and rework it with the app of your choice and wallet allowance :D . The best way to learn is by trial and error and hitting the tutorial sites for hints, tips and threatening Surly with a paternity suite if he doesn't cough up the info .

You could draw it on paper with a pen, then use tint or a marker across the lines, scan it and "paint" it in photoshop.

Well, before you do that, you should start working on a line of racial mount themed avatars. We don't have much to work with, but hey, all that means is that you have more time to get it done :D :ninja:

Pretty simple though, a very quick copy/paste job, just to show off my ideas. :P
