Hey everyone!

Dynamic events are always a great distraction from the normal everyday game play and we think that a player showing the initiative to actually create something for the community deserves a spotlight!

So, check out the Event on the NA server run by Harold Lee and join his Bounty Hunter Competition which is scheduled for Wednesday October 28, 2009.
Please visit his official thread (http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=219095) for more information.

We can also tell you that there are currently wheels in motion to discuss and work on official events for Darkfall from the Developer side. Stay tuned and let us know in the meantime if you would participate in this kind of events and what you think about them in general.

For now we really applaud the initiative and hope for many more events both from Aventurine and the Community.

Great use of the spotlight I have to say. Hopefully this will encourage more community members to host their own events (preferably on EU1!).

Thanks for the spotlight, I'll try to do my best to attend.

As for suggestions, developer led events would be a HUGE step in the right direction. Preferably, I'd love to see some events that dealt with the world lore.

Like, maybe have an event where a few of the developers spawn some very powerful Nithron (since it is assumed they may be making a return to Agon), and have them drop powerful rare items but be ridiculously hard to take down.

I don't know, ANYTHING to make it feel like lore matters in Darkfall.

Dev events would be great. Please no christmas or halloween crap with food that changes you into a pirate or cute pets that follow you around and throw moon eyes at you every time you kill someone though. :P

Maybe you can have Santa Claus on the condition that we can shoot down his sleigh and gank him and the reindeers for all his loot though....

being a sandbox is great and all, but things like this bounty need to happen in it!

player can take the initiative but we shouldnt have to rely on solely one proactive players

We can also tell you that there are currently wheels in motion to discuss and work on official events for Darkfall from the Developer side.

Always I thought the official events should be basic in every mmo, and these events are the best link between the devs/GMs and the community. An mmorpg without events..is not a real mmorpg.

Good luck with that community event in NA! I hope also see events like this in EU server.

I would love to see some dev events, no question about it. But I would also like to see some tools to make player events a little more accessible.

Something like an official town posting board where, maybe for a fee, players can post event notices. There would have to be a mechanic (maybe the fee itself) to discourage ass hats from spamming or whatever. Maybe only Guild Leaders can post events, for instance.

Using the board feature, it would be nice to have an actual bounty system in place that anyone can use. I will outline one simple version, although more features might be nice (like accepting a bounty puts a poster in your inventory, so if you get killed other players can tell what you were up to, and maybe accept the quest themselves):

Use Case:
- User triggers the Town Poster Board and chooses 'offer bounty reward'
- System prompts for name of character to place the bounty on
- System prompts for amount (no less than 1000 gold), and takes the money from the Users character inventory.
- System generates a quest that can be picked up from the board.
- First character to return to the board with the completed quest gets the cash. Alternately, if the system spawns a poster then perhaps it would be the first person who completed the quest and returns with the poster.

User can cancel at any time before paying for the bounty (for free), but it can only be canceled after that if no one has accepted the quest (but the fee is forfeit).

It would be nice to have other player quest helpers too, but that is the simplest example.

yea the thing with that is it will be an easy way for gold farmers to transfer gold....

it has to be a system which can not be easily exploitable.

something similar but with something to prevent it from being abused...

I just hope they get a good hacking police team soon...btw the GM's have been very active when I've reported....good sign there.

If the alignment system wasnt so stupid I would think this event would be great.

I was hoping the spotlight was gonna have to do with melee specialization within the next week. Im sure everyone would like to know what melee folks are getting.

Wow! I feel like this could be a huge success now. I might need more body guards... right now its just me and Kumar (yes, there is a kumar patel in game, yes he's a friend of mine, and he will be participating :) )

From all the responses I've gotten about people buying the game after seeing this, or wanting to resub just to take part in things like this.

Fyi, the next event is in planning. Someone PMed me an excellent idea that I think will be cool.

The only problem is coming up with the gold for prizes, so ask your clan and alliance if they can pitch in. Ill be online later tonight and most of the day tomorrow to get everything ready for Wednesday!

EU-1 Players, remember this event was purely a player decision, the only thing stopping this from happening on EU-1 is you, so scrape together some cash, maybe a house deed, and create your own epic event!

Reddog
10-27-2009, 12:33 AM
Dev events definitely.

Hopefully that would also mean lore would be updated/revamped to give whatever upcoming events happen some back story/purpose.

Step aside and listen to me!!

O.K. Now that I have your attention I want to say something that is more important than anyone else will say in this thread.

The developers once promised that they would act as epic Demi-God monsters in game during special events.

Far-Loradain must be brought to life and steered by a Game Master!

My friend and I Deen Ziggy have lived on Yssam practically since launch. And we always talk about Far-Loradain and how the developers one day will control that epic dragon and let players participate in an insane event to try and kill it!

Therefore, I want to remind you of this promise and also let you know that we know about this and we have talked about it way before this spotlight thing brought attention and all these people started talking about it. So don't listen to what they are saying and only listen to what Deen Ziggy and Celiah Ailey talked about for half a year now.

The community wants Far-Loradain to come to live and for a developer to steer it.

Here is what the event will be like:

A developer steers, flies and attacks with Far-Loradain. He will have attacks that don't exist in the game yet. He will have sick AoEs that don't do insta kill damage, but have huge are of effect.

The primary goal is to kill this ancient Demi-God and the secondary goal is to go there to PK other players.

It's very simple.. The Dragon will spawn in Akhuteotl and fly back and forth between Loradain's Citadel and Akhuteotl attacking everything the developer wants to attack. He will obviously focus on bigger groups and people who try to hide from his power. He is actually smart and u cant bug him out.

When Far-Loradain dies he will drop 50 tombstones all of varying quality all around Akhuteotl and Far-Loradain. Not neccesarily where it dies. It will handsomely reward a large amount of players who came to the event and not only the powerzerg that controls the area. Also reward the players that hide in the many hiding spots inside Loradain's citadel and Akhuteotl.

The event will end with players running around PKing each other even more than focusing on the dragon. They will hunt players in hope that they got a gravestone from the dragon as well and they will PK each other for regular PK loot from players.

This is the way you make Darkfall come to life. You have to make MANY people happy and you have to let people PK each other during these events because you can't make RP events since some douchebags will fuck it up.

So make a KILLING event everyone understand and reward everyone with many tombstones. Drop a man-o-war even! Make a Demi-God event once a month or on holidays!

You have to very, very handsomely just throw insane goodies at players. Warhulks even. Make this game FUN and you will have the heart of all players. .. Everyone will come to these events and you dont have to care about game balance because these events will happen once a month and the stuff can be obtained by many different players!

Now, do you understand what must be done? This is the future of Darkfall!

I have created a suggestion inspired by this thread!

The suggestion is where players get to play with warhulks, ships and cannons that GMs place on the ground in 2 locations. Then the players battle it out and kill each other to win!

The war machines cannot be stored, only used for fun and they disappear when destroyed or at server restart!

I think both the idea of Player and developer driven events are BRILLIANT and fully support this.

As far as ideas for Dev driven events go there are so many awesome possibilities... Just be creative (Psst... Demi-Gods "Wink" "Wink")

Its a sandbox, why shouldnt players be a part of making events? I think its great that the spotlight helps players who want to create events by advertising it on the spotlight forum.

This can only encourage other players to do the same, wich is great.

.
For a first event, some good old fashioned city invasions would be cool.

Something like swarms of goblins who are tired of being killed, attack and overrun the NPC cities, led by a handful of very powerful monsters, or a demi-god and his minions.

Make it so that at least one NPC city in every racial lands gets invaded, so that players all over the world have a chance to participate.

And have the invaders use war machines like cannons, and war hulks too!
