Ara Brightheart has came through for us again! :)

There are two screenshots that are to accompany that as well, they are not (at the time of writing) up yet, will get onto that as soon as possible.

Some good info, and even better is that it is intended as a weekly series of Q&A's. We'll see how maintainable this is, but so far, it's looking good. :)

I can here the complaints already. Not sure how I feel about this, myself. I thought alignment would be hidden but, oh well.

That bolstered my hopes a bit, "weekly" - ie. every week or even bi-weeky sounds great to me. I like the idea of a lot of feature, like smoke, but I'd have to see them implimented to pass judgement because I'm not sure how well they could be done in an MMO.

Props to ara for the diligence, and answer some real fan based questions.

Cheers,

Warhouses were big and strong. Carry 400lbs of armor and a not so small rider around and you would have to be big also.

They have take a lot from battlefield.. look at battlefield how smoke will
effect the gameplay.. it is damn good.

Ships are also similar to battlefield i think, one driver, and a lot of cannoniers..
and they have added even more.

DF is in a lot of aspects similar to FPS games like Battlefield, but much
much bigger with a lot more features at all.

However.. great stuff. :)

(In a hostle world I dont know how much time you will get to click and id a player, befor the action starts..) :)

But its not a in your face set up, sence I can live with it, if you have the time to ID a gang of players, so be it... It would give ya a clue, but there actions will speak for there Char louder then the ID.. :)

Well, I'm thinking of the thieves and PK'ers. Pretty hard to approach as friendly if you con as evil. Kind of removes an aspect of the game imo. I had hoped detecting alignment would have been a skill/spell. /shrug. Have to see who/how many care about this.

Im acually glad to hear they wont be allowing free building. Uo allowed building wherever there was a spot, and it seemed a little ridiculous to have houses right outside a dungeon or whatever. Limiting it is a good idea imo, but make sure that there are still a bunch of spots, so that when we start playing its not entirely a race to get all the housing spots.

God that horse is big! In Norway we are used to horses being between 1.90-2.20m. Not those enormeus horses, though I still think that the horsed can with succses be scaled down a bit. But the taste is like the but, divided in two!

We at Warcry are working with your staff here on the official forums, and the development team to bring you updates and or screenshots weekly. Fridays is our current target date, but as always pending any emergencies on the Devs side of things. You can expect 4-8 questions and or screenshots from this and I will be sending the link to your forum Ops as soon as the article is ready to post. We will be pulling these questions from the forum responses and posts, so let us know. I tend to be one not to make the same mistake twice so I want these to be your questions.

So theres floating names indicating there alignment? I mean this could be good only if you have your crosshairs over him for like 3-5 secs. and the more skill of spotting you have the faster his name will appear.

Well, that is listed as the largest horse in the world as well. The info on the linked page said he was 19.2 hands high, and a hand is commonly equal to 4 inches (IIRC), so that would make that horse 6'4" at the shoulder, which is where horses are measured to. Yeah, he's a big horse.

Most are commonly between 16-18 hands high, or 5'3" to 6' high at the shoulder. And as Gunther said, draft horses tend to be a bit larger and more solid because they were originally bred to carry men in armor or pull wagons/plows/etc. When you hear something measured in horsepower, this is probably what they are talking about. :)

My only complaint about the horses is that they have no halters or bridles. If you're going to give me a magical saddle, at least add some graphics for a halter to make it look a bit more real.

I wonder if farmers actually can get hold of 'workhorses' and use plows on their fields, just the same way as knights can get their 'warhorses'.. Maybe we're asking for too much depth, with all the directions and professions available for a character in the game its hard to cater to them all.

That horse picture is a hoax, those men are really leprechaun-sized midgets.

I can't wait for blinding potions. In Everquest, there was a spell called Blackout, which turned your screen completely black. You thought your monitor had burned out for a solid 10 seconds. Oh man. Everquest's PVP was hilarious because it was just thrown out there as an afterthought, with no balance.

no the first interview happened at E3, and we posted the whole document. I know some were unhappy with it, but it was a start, and an opening to communications. We are now actively communicating with the Darkfall team and they took the time to answer these questions for us. By keeping the number of question down we believe that we can keep this Q&A going till release.

The short answer would be "no these are not canned interview segments"

Ummmm GameGoddess is a female ....... I am quite male.

The name Ara came from my first character in UO "Aragorn" which is the name I used in beta and then for my 6 years of play on LS. For my first 4 years on LS I only had the one character. When the movies came out there were suddenly 10k Aragorns so I changed it to Ara or Arra as I am known in The Sundered Guard.

Shadow Walker2020

1. So the stance where you can build a 'house' almost anywhere has changed?

I'm glad you've asked this question. We feel that the way we're doing it represents the spirit of building anywhere a lot better than letting players place a house or build a city randomly. Darkfall has special considerations, some of which follow:

"Building anywhere" in most games means trying to find one of the remaining flat and barren areas on the map and putting buildings on it that more or less look like everyone else's mess. In Darkfall you have cities and buildings hanging on the sides of mountains, on top of mountains, on wild land formations, on river deltas, with waterfalls and rivers running through them, on small islands etc.. Every one of them looks and feels unique. When you see it, you know which one it is just by looking at it in a screenshot.
We have many awesome handpicked building locations that you wouldn't be able to build on if you were "free to build anywhere".

The sheer number of structures possible in each Darkfall world is also a concern. Each Darkfall world has the capacity for more than 10 thousand simultaneous players, therefore several times that number in total world population. Multiply that by the number of characters each account can support and the possible number of buildings in the world goes up to hundreds of thousands. Even though our world is huge, random building could make things ugly.

The world is content packed. Wherever you go, there's something going on that could be disrupted by random building. The Darkfall terrain is all hand crafted, extreme and unique. Everything is hand-placed. You won't be building on some auto-generated flatland that looks like most of the rest of the world. You'd be stepping on an artist's hard work and possibly on terrain features that we don't even know are there.

The technology allows for random building. We've chosen not to allow it based on carefully weighing the pros and the cons. Of course, just like with anything else, this decision will be evaluated through testing and feedback by the players.

I believe that the developers are using a system close to what UO had. They are probably going to have building zones and no building zones. The building zones will probably be the barren, middle of nowhere places that are a pain the in rear to get to. The no building zones will probably be areas like around the racial capitols and along the roads or in front of a mine or other resource or the entrance to a dungeon.

Hopefully the building zones will out number the no building zones

Here's some quick feedback...

1. Location Based Building Part 1 Smart.
2. Location Based Building Part 2 Great.
3. You can Release WTF does this mean? There's no context.
4. Visual Indicator Makes Sense.
5. Paralyzing Attacks You'd better be right.
6. Thrown Weapons Cool.

7. The Economy Defined If only someone would ask about this before I die of old age.

"You can Release" is talking about something mentioned in the E3 interviews. It was thought that if you were knocked out but not dead that couldn't release and just respawn. This comment says that that was a misunderstanding. You can choose to release if you are knocked out, essentially accepting your fate.
