Melee fighting can look and feel decent sometimes, as an observer and a brawler. The sprinting around swinging thing that nearly all fights degenerate into though looks fairly awful.
One idea came to mind:
Hits while sprinting do considerably less damage than hits when you're are moving at normal speed, basically emulating being balanced -- with one expection: sprinting and hitting someone directly, head-on would do more damage, like a charge behaving with the same hit-arc that power attacks have.
This way, there is a still a bonus for legit charging inertia, and people can still sprint around for position, but swinging has to be managed a little more for max effectiveness.
More tactics. Looks cooler. Small change.

Not a bad idea but people would just macro a short break in the sprint key to the attack button, we need physics applied to movement.

Physics is probably too hard for the devs to program in.

They are already in game, mount and swimming.

I don't see how that would really give that much of an advantage. Letting off the sprint is really not a time consuming process.
The charging, head on hit basically acts like a physics system, but a lot easier to implement as a start.
I don't know. Just watching two guys go at it last night made me a visualize how much cooler it would be with a small tweak.

Explain the physics to me behind it, I thought that mount based combat only gave you a static bonus to damage, and it had nothing to do with speed as per Mount and Blade.

It's a good idea, but I would turn it around a bit...
If you GET HIT while sprinting, you take more damage.
This would eliminate the macro thing and make you think twice about whether or not you should run or fight it out.
archery is fine , magic only need balanace but it is ok how it works but melee is plane horrible done . any solution but this mindless spriniting bashing that we have now is good for me. sprint pool bar can be done nicly , look at new nba 2k10 how it works in same bar (stamina for darkfall) whit other color how they have done it.

I don't like the sprint bar idea because I don't think that sprinting around and meleeing should ever work well, unless it's in the context of a charge, like previously mentioned. Why put a regulation on something that is already messed up? Seems more like a band-aid than making the way it works better through a small revamp.
I like Ordrek's addition, though. I can see taking more damage working in conjunction with doing less damage while sprinting - double disadvantage to drive it home.
