The Darkfall IRC staff have asked us to spotlight the Darkfall IRC Channel and give out some information about it. We'd also like to organize some IRC developer interaction events sometime. The Darkfall IRC channel is one of the most active ones on the Stratics network. To access it follow the steps below:
Download an IRC client like MIRC (http://www.mirc.com/).
Install it with the default parameters and launch it.
Set the field "Nickname" to your desired name and click "OK"
Type /server irc.stratics.com
Type /join #Darkfall and you're in

POTBS used to do regular Dev chats over IRC.
All the players go in one channel and can chat. The devs are the only ones who can post in a different channel. We all submit our questions to a bot and then the devs choose which questions to answer and we all moan in the other channel about how they only pick softball questions ;-)

The channel has been active and running since 2001, making it the oldest and longest running IRC channel for Darkfall...so be sure to join in and make fun of that poor chump you killed yesterday!

Not many people hang out there anymore.
What is worse though, i would say 90% of the moderators in there dont even play darkfall anymore lol.

No wonder people talk shit about eachother in this game all the time, even the devs encourage it! :lmao:

Geez how on earth are the IRC servers still running, all the big servers and channels died out a few years back. IMO most IRC is a ghost town.

instead of a clunky desktop app, try www.mibbit.com
i use it for all my irc needs, it's very handy since there's so many different networks used by different games/groups

And FYI I sub to the irc since 2001 and it is nothing more then crap talk most of the time. Every once and a while you will see some decent chat.

So why not join and see? The channel has plenty of good conversation. Joining for a minute and judging it based on a few lines of text hardly counts as anything. And if you have any questions or issues connecting, you can PM me. Been around the Stratics IRC 10 years, i'm sure I can help. Somehow I prefer the live feed over the refresh frenzy and clickery that is the forums.

i use it for all my irc needs, it's very handy since there's so many different networks used by different games/groups
although perhaps handy if you're behind a firewall and/or have network issues connecting direct to IRC, for general use I prefer mIRC because i can minimize it to the system tray and I don't need a web page open constantly. Nothing clunky about it. Having to have your browser sitting open to some page is more clunky imo.

yea, never thought of tabs! imagine that! :rolleyes: if you have a browser up, obviously you can put it on a tab. with mIRC I can minimize it to the tray and not even need a browser open. then its always there regardless. I suppose its personal taste though :) and no, I don't always have a browser up.

This is a problem. AV should make a new IRC room ran by the company. The moderators in the #Darkfall Stratic channel are not all uniform in decisions as far as moderating.
Some channel ops ban people just because they have a problem with them in-game. Some channel ops ban people based particularly on their name even if it is allowed in the Darkfall world. Darkfall is a mature audience game. The forums are for a mature audience. The IRC channel is very uptight and the ops ban people for acting.... like a mature audience.
I am not saying all of the channel ops are bad. Just a select few. I have tried over and over to frequent that channel as well as many from my clan. We would get banned for minuscule things. Often that had no reasoning provided.
I guess what I am trying to say is make a new IRC channel with OPs and moderators that are for the good of the game. Not just a high uptight clique that kicks and bans users for what ever they feel like.
Do this and you will see your IRC community grow!

Great. I will try and message him to get unbanned. I was banned for just idling in the IRC room. I didn't even talk to anyone when I got banned.
Maybe this is a step in the right direction.

I have looked into this and it seems to have been a nickname issue.

The channel operators are in the channel to ensure that our visitors have a good time.
If you have any logs to back up your allegations against the channel staff please send them to me. Feel free to bring me complaints at any time with logs and I will handle the problem. After all IRC is meant to be a place to chat with friends and have fun, we are doing our best to make it so!
