Offtopic discussion has always been a good source of random but helpful advice in the past so i thought id give it a shot:

So i was trying to put together this film and everything was done and edited but when i tried to add audio (not just this one song-- any song from my itunes library) i kept getting this error;

The file C:\Users\Travis\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\Ciara\Go Girl (feat. T-Pain) - Single\01 Go Girl (feat. T-Pain).m4a cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

I just used this song as an example, but this wouldn't work for any of the songs i wanted to put in. How do i know which codec to download? Where do i find it?

Try vlc or KMPlayer

Try vlc or KMPlayer

So it looks like both of those are programs that automatically update codecs. Do you think theres any chance i might get a virus from downloading off either site? Im really new to this and new to making vids and i still don't even know what a codec is, i just know that mine is missing, or wrong, or something, and i need to fix it for music to be imported into this video.

Actually there are alot of programs here -- do you happen to know which one i need for this? It said i don't have the codec installed for this file, so which one of these would i need to install it?

So i installed the thing the last guy said no questions asked, because im getting a little desperate and annoyed, and im happy to say the error message has at least changed. Now im getting

C:\Users\Travis\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\The Automatic Automatic\Monster - Single\01 Monster.m4p could not be imported.

for all my songs. Although it doesn't offer any explanations or solutions, so it might not be a good change. Any ideas?

edit; also, it appears one song in my itunes library doesn't seem to be appearing with the rest of my library...its 'Midnight Rider' by the Allman Brothers-- its just not in the folder at all.

edit2; upon trying to import my entire itunes library, i got the old error message again. Codecs are just being not nice to me today.

Maybe you should leave the computer stuff to people who aren't retarded when it comes to computers?

Just a thought...

Maybe you should leave the trolling to the people who are clever?

Just a thought.

1. you use itunes

2. you listen to garbage music

3. throw your computer away

4. profit

1. Itunes can potentially encompass all music you posess be it from cd's, itunes store, or otherwise.
2. you hate all music
3. die
4. everyone else profits

See? I can pretend to be cool too.

As for the codecs, i guess ill have better luck asking some friends in game. For those of you who tried to help, thank you.

Lol, we aren't the ones who don't know what a codec is... Apparently don't know what google is, and need help w/ fundamental concepts which you'll need to know about if you plan on doing much video editing.

Yeah, because this is totally a professional business and all, making movies of video games... My god, if im this far behind trying to make a good vid i'll never meet my dead lines of... when ever.

Im learning quickly, all i need to do now is find a decent freeware program that can convert my itunes songs from m4p to mp3 without putting advertising into the middle of it or limiting it to 3 minutes (which wouldn't be a problem except that i dont know how to affect the file itself and change the time).

No but yeah, keep taking yourself that seriously. Im sure your mother is proud of you.

Alright i reinstalled that cccp thing now that its been recommended a couple times, but what does it do? How should it work? Is it an automatic thing that should theoretically solve this error im getting?

If you want people to be able to WATCH your videos your gonna need to know what a fucking codec is...

Clear enough?

One step at a time. Im actually not even getting that error concerning codecs anymore. You'd know that if you read what i was talking about and not just insulting my lack of knowledge of video editing.
