View Full Version : Nvidia adds SLI support for Darkfall

Nvidia has added SLI support specifically for Darkfall in their new beta drivers.
To get them go to this page (http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us) and select 'beta' in the options, your graphics card, your OS and use the search option.
For Windows7 / Vista 32bit you can get them here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_winvista_32bit_191.03_beta.html)
Please note that these are beta drivers, however we've cooperated with Nvidia on this, and we've tested them in-house and they work for our configurations.
UPDATE: The drivers have now been released officially (http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=216915)

Nice, what does it mean?SLI is Nvidia's technology for more than GPU to work at the same time. Having multiple cheap graphics cards usually gives better performance per money than single powerful GPU, but the main downside (besides power consumption) is that the game you plan to play has to support it (either through drivers or coded inside the game, and the 2nd option is very rare)
more on SLI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Link_Interface)
CrossfireX is very similar, but it's for ATI graphics cards.

Thank you, this made me a happy gamer this morning.
Just gave it a try with my 9800GX2. I m getting 70-120 FPS with Shadows on High and everything else maxed in 1920x1200.
Granted, I didn't explore much, but so far, its seems like a very good improvement, game was not playable with shadows on before for me.
I still seem to get a lot of shadow flickering in the distance while moving though even with shadow smoothing on. Anything I can do to improve that?
Whats next? Anti aliasing? X-Fi hardware sound support?
:D

I got an old computer, 3 years, but decided at the time to go SLI (it was brand new tech those days). With that driver on, I get around 20-30 fps more. Incredible!!! I guess those drivers must have more impact on old machines, where every little gain of performance makes a big difference. Now, my FPS is averaging 100-130, in most situation with lows going to 40-70 (when lag spike). Yes I got all graphic options down but u know, with a 6800 GS, u can't try playing with shades and stuff.
I say, if u have SLI, use that driver, it definitively helps.

if you're talking about two horizontal white lines drawn in circles around your char, go to texture filtering in vid options and change it from anisotropic to linear. Should clear that up.

I know that... and I also know that this "solution" makes textures more ugly than they are with aniso filtering :(

Annoying as hell :(
They only appear in shadows.
If you look closely, shadows usually have 3 qualities. High quality edges up close, mid @ midrange, crap @ far distance. The ATI line/shadow bug's lines (fancy wording there) appear inbetween the different quality shadows... like ATI doesn't know what to do when the different qualities meet so it just does nothing.
Edit: There's a 3rd line, really far in the distance.
Aramanu
09-27-2009, 10:40 AM
With ATI cards its not the shadows that are fucked, its anistropic filtering, if you have it one with shadows the lines appear, if you have point(ugh) or linear(eww) filtering the 'shadow' lines dissappear, and yes it ANNOYING AS HELL that after 6 months its still not fixed. Surely it can't be that hard to fix ot that far down the list of things to do.

But it's also related to texture filtering: with linear no line appear (but quality drop down), with aniso we have the two/three lines :(

the drivers seem to make a nice improvement, running 2 clients on one machine, all shadows cranked up to max , all other gfx effects on max playing in windowed mode getting a constant 45fps.
when using one client getting 60fps.

SLI is only for 2 videocards(or 3 or4) and it need a MB that supports SLI also.

It works with nHancer or within the Control Panel from the Driver, going to test SLI now with a Asus 295 GTX TOP flashed with these settings :
- Core Clock: 718MHz
- Shader Clock: 1560MHz
- Memory Clock: 2502MHz
cooled by EK Waterblocks, and compare the results to a single 285 GTX and 4870x2.
No I'm not stupid and buying all those cards I usually get em for free or with a nice discount as a hardware tester :)
anyone crazy enough and tried QuadSLI with two 295 , or TriSLI with 3x285 ?

Awesome, my 9800GX2 will surely benefit from it. Now lets add Quad-Core CPU, PhysX, EAX5, Dual-monitor and me and my computer will be finally happy.
btw, any news on ATI CrossfireX support?
ATI CrossfireX is configured to work in all games, ATI don't provide personalized CrossfireX profiles as Nvidia for SLI does. Tho it has its advantage that your cards always work together. Nvidia by-hand solution is more stable and gives better overall performance, but you have to wait for it to come out (if ever).

They work great until I get the BSOD. It seems SLI, Windows 7 x64, and Darkfall are still not 100% compatible. I was running SLI fine before the "Upgrade", now have to turn it off when playing Darkfall. Well hopefully they get it all good.

Only 4 gigs of ram? pfft...
depends on what you are talking about.. my rig has 3x2 GB ram. the 4870x2 CF setup has 4GB ram but "only" 1GB per Gpu but 4 Gpu's ... which are not supported by DF so I stick to the 295GTX which deals amazing performance with the newly released drivers.

I just picked up a 295GTX, and oddly enough was getting a lot of BSOD with SLI enabled (using the newest Nvidia drivers, Vista 32). Manually turning off SLI for DF in the Nvidia control panel fixed the BSOD issue. I'm hoping the next patch or drivers that come out will allow me to leave SLI on.
My previous card was a 8800GT, and I must say the 295GTX, even without SLI, has been doing a great job running DF. At the NA Aradoth siege I was still getting 30+ FPS almost the entire time.

I tested both. In full screen (1900x1200 on 24") I would get the BSOD, especially during large scale combat (at one siege I was getting it either instantly, or after 20-30 minutes). Even when just riding alone I would sometimes get it though. In window mode (1600x1200) I don't believe I crashed, but the hit to FPS was noticeable, and I only played in window mode for a few days. This was all BEFORE I turned SLI off. Since SLI has been off, I've not had a single BSOD crash while in full screen, and this included the very large NA Aradoth siege this past Tuesday.

Yep same issue, love the GTX295 cards. I will have to find that setting in Nvidia control panel to disable SLI for just Darkfall. Right now I have it turned off. I got it to run for a while wih SLI on, but not worth the risk after I BSOD while on a raft in the middle of the ocean. When I run on the other computer in windows mode same GTX295 cards in that computer I have no issues (because SLI doesn't activate in windows mode).
