Concerning the connection issues that both the website and log in servers suffered from last night (GMT timezone), we got this bit of information for you from Aventurine.

The log-in problems experienced last night-early morning European time were due to an unexpected outage to one of our web provider’s data centers. Players in the game were not affected, those trying to log in may have faced problems during this outage. We’d like to offer our apologies for this incident.

We’ve already started taking specific measures to ensure that this kind of thing won’t happen again.

The problem was never for Tasos to tell us things. The problem was that everyone on the development team was always swamped. And so using 1 hour writing a text couldn't really be spared very often.

Now they hired a couple of guys to run around ask questions on the development team and then spend their days writing that stuff up on the forums.

Perfect job and perfectly useful .. cause look at Shiva drooling.

... If you ask me I am not surprised at all. I knew that as soon as Aventurine had a bit of funds they would do this. I may be surprised that they are trying to do it so effectively with so many posts all the time.

But.. .. This is Aventurine. So I am not surprised.

Aventurine's motto is: No Compromise.

dotn get me wrong, i fully expected both more communication and advertisement once Revenue started flowing in (actually very much like EVE has done)

i just didn't expect it to be this accurate, detailed, up to date, well written and "proffesional". props for tht.

...now, about advertisement...

Apocalipse oO

isn't it E-Poccalipse? :P

The timing of this was very confusing for me.

I just got my new computer put together and had just hooked it up to my switch. All of a sudden none of my computers could get to DF. I scratched my head, because switches don't do that. I was like "wtf... this thing says it's a switch, and it's doing something weird to DF"

Then I talked with a clanmate that was also having connection problems, and wasn't as concerned.

It seems like when this happens it is because their DNS servers are going offline.

If you add this into C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts you can still get to the website/forums:

77.95.25.44 darkfallonline.com
77.95.25.51 forums.darkfallonline.com

Does anyone know the DNS name of the Authentication server? If we can find its IP then we can do something similar so a DNS outage won't affect us.

Of course if they change the IPs for these DNS names then the hosts file would need to be updated - probably best to only do this during an actual outage and comment out the entries when things are back to normal.

p.s. was just able to login here, try doing ipconfig /flushdns, you will have to wait for your ISP's dns caches to update if you still can't get in after that
