Darkfall topped MMORPG.com’s list of “Most Interesting MMOs of 2009”.
John Wood, the site’s Managing Editor, offers his perspective.

Recently Jon Wood, the Managing Editor of MMORPG.com, wrote up a very interesting review of the top MMOs launched this year to catch his eye. The piece lists the top 5 games that came out in 2009 that qualify as most interesting according to Jon.

Have a look and tell us what you think.

Man.. I really love that article!

The things he says about Darkfall are awesome! XD
I'm sitting here laughing my ass off reading it because it's so damn true.

Tasos became cult.. We made so many Bombay videos of him. lmao. .. And then there was the hitler videos. .. Argh. not to talk about the infinite amount of threads. The Darkfall forums are the best mmo forums on the net. We even have our own name. Forumfall. Lol. .. people play these forums if they dont play the game.

And then the game itself.. Unprecedented freedom!
No dragging around with the character to 10 different places for quests or shoving lore down your throat. Or basically forcing you to do anything.

Darkfall basically lives as a game and lives as a world without being so damn tailored for players to make players do certain things. .. That's what makes it so good for players. They can do whatever the hell they want.

And it helps a great deal that you can say whatever the hell you want in Darkfall and on forumfall.

.. Lol.. Oh and then there was the whole giant drama during the launch when we couldn't get a DAMN COPY!!! When is the next pre-order? I need a Darkfall account!!
People bought accounts on external sites left and right for twice the price! Lol.. it was insane.. .. Credit cards didn't work and we all just wanted to play the damn game. Game sold out thousands of copies in 15 minutes. Website overloaded... IRC locked and forums locked.. What a chaos. A lovely chaos.

And then the following launch drama inside the game. THat was just epic. Insanely interesting.. Nobody had a friggin clue except the beta players (me).. But we didnt have a clue either. We just knew how to PK other noobs like ourselves and kill stuff like trolls. And maybe a bit terrain. ..So we ran around and did that. Then some people start travelling. I went to Yssam on a raft I had bought from farming trolls south of Ymirs Tear. Kept doing those troll quests lol. What drama there was on those elevators .. Gawd. .. Yea. So then the alliances grew and serious shit started to go down. Players got angry at each other .REAL ANGRY. and started doing everything in their power to mess with each other. Lol.

Man.. I really think it was good to keep the game such a secret. It was wonderful to experience. .. And now the game is this complex thing where the competition is insanely high. You have people spending so much time on working their characters. Farming money for it. trying to get better at PvP by improving their playerskill. .. Its all going somewhere.. It feels like its moving in a direction. .. Darkfall is just great. No game comes close to beating the epic player interaction you have in Darkfall. The bloody part really can get to you sometimes .. But, if you rise above the loss of gear. If you take it like a man. You can really get places.

Yea.. We all miss the launch. hard to top that. But, I am super excited about every single content patch Aventurine gives us. Content patches are really significant. THey have a big impact on my game experience.

I really love the thought of caravans.. And I really enjoy when Aventurine comes out with something like playerowned houses and villages (talk about a brilliant clan money making mechanisms). .. And soon local banking. Wtf. This is crazy shit!
Cant believe they are making the stuff we tell them to .. I had a suggestion about mounts implemented faster than I could forget about my own suggestion. ..

Some devs just do what they want all the time. .. These devs do what they want AND implement sick features that take like 8-12 months in other games.

I guess its because they kept the star developers on the live team. Man. Am I happy ..

And that is why I pay you 3 subscriptions every month. So keep up the good work ;)

AND LETS HARVEST SOME MORE AWARDS!

It's the most interesting because it's still sorta alive after all of the failures by AV(ie, release, initial queues, lack of communication, complete lack of advertisements, basic failure to EVER release a patch on time [and get it right the first time], misguidance about NA transfers etc etc).

That being said... Darkfall has the biggest potential of any PvP game released... and that makes it interesting as well.

That's partly because Darkfall has a lot of fanbois like me. ;)

But really... it's because the devs are good. They made a superb game and it's obvious that they work harder than any other devs in the world. I think they live up to the hardcore game they created.

Deserving. I'll have to get back in the game eventually.

Meanwhile, do me a favour and smoothen up the interface/interaction :p

It's a shame, but DF really needs this kind of promotion. It's such a good game, but the people don't adepting it without a little help.

This article and the comments made in response to it have only the intent to mock Darkfall.

It's fairly obvious that the MMO Game following generalize Darkfall as a failed game, and spark malicious, uneducated flame wars constantly.

It's sad indeed, but such is any industry. Darkfall will remain my favourite game, regardless of issues and such.

That's because most of the trolls we get here on the forums are born and raised on MMORPG.com.
