Warcry- So players can loot other players?

Darkfall Team- Yes, upon finishing off a foe you can claim the spoils of war.

Does this mean that if you stumble across a dead player whos, for example, just been killed by a crowd of skeletons, you won't be able to loot his corpse unless you finish him off?

Edit:

Darkfall Team- We will have specific areas that players will be able to build on and set up towns. This way it will be easier to organize the social structure in the game. Players will be able to pick their own structures so the only thing forced is where to build not what to build.

There goes my dream of creating my guildcity on a small island to make a fortress. :(

The ship combat sounds freaking amazing. I had not thought about actualy climbing the rigging and stuff.

errr... two hours of audio and thats it? It was a good review, no question, but i was kinda expecting more. Was there really anything new there? But then again, it was a review not an update.

If there will only be one server to start with then, they should be anticiptaing the number of people wanting to play from the start and so the servers will probably be able to hold 30,000+ players at one time.

As you recall in UO, there weren't any places left to put a house... anywhere.

I don't disagree, I'm sure with their brilliant minds they could think of something, I was just trying to shine some sort of justification, like maybe they didn't want the world to be covered from head to toe with player houses.


Another example... SWG's Tatooine, which looked absolutely ridiculous, for the "barren" planet it was supposed to be.

The limited areas for housing runs counter to the idea of player freedom that underlies all other aspects of the game. I'm not sure I like this.

And the one server at release combined with one race per server is going to make for a tough choice initially.

Other than that, I'm very much looking forward to this game.

What I see while there was untouched fraps video and it was awesome, they had an office PvP match Orks on Humans that was better than anything out there right now. But the team wants better than good they want great and will not compromise till it is just what they have envisioned from the start.

Excelent read. The info on the ships is quite good, weather is really in game, lots of customization and the game sounds like huge fun. Im not a fanboy but i'm really excited about the game now. And i guess i'm gonna need a clan to have access to some stuff though.

Darkfall Team- Dwarves are neutral, Mirdain (elves) are friendly to the humans, the Alfar (Dark Elves) which are hated by everyone, and the Mahirim (Wolf men) that are friendly to the Orks. Lastly Orks and Humans are enemies. Choosing the Alfar is choosing the hardest path in the game as they will be hated by everyone.

dwarfs are neutral now. thats new isnt it? i wonder what neutral means, they can trade with anyone but Alfar? and they made a special point to say orks and humans are enemies, are they enemies in a diffent way then mirdian and orks? or mahirim and alfar?

The one race per server bit has been known for a while. What makes it problematic is the one server at release bit.

While I do like the idea of everyone being in one huge world, it is going to make choosing your race a hard decision. Hopefully I'll know for sure which race I want by the end of beta.

Only thing I really hate is that there will be root/stun/paralyze, etc. That really sux immensely, but we will see... now freaking go beta soon, or I will go insane.

Good to see the interview.

Glad to see mention that wars will, in general consist of multiple battles. And the use of ships as trade will probably be huge which creates a dynamic naval game which is better then could have been expected initially.

Now just to wait for some really good stuff.

I am a little disappointed, I was really expecting 8 pages. Oh well, can't whine everytime!

Nice to see there's dueling in (practice ftw), and this unconscious option. What I didn't understand was, can they get back up afterwards? Are they unconscious for 5 minutes, or do they have to be rezzed?

Too bad it was mostly repeating old stuff.

I dont remember reading anything about one alignment in that interview anywhere.

The only thing they said is that they plan to launch with one server and that you can only play one race per server. They said nothing about one alignment.

Fair enough. But this interview is not solely for the veteran darkfall fan audience but also for those who are learning about the game. I think so beacuse that would not only keep us veterans (Apologies to any 2000 members that reads this) interested but bring in new people as well.

If it served no other purpose for you than it atleast confirmed that the devs still knows what this game is all about. That they havent changed their vision to anything ugly.

since im a bit lazy i'll write my question right in here. with mahirim having no (racial)mounts, i wonder if their wolftransformation or whatever it is will have the same effects in combat as normal mounts have, like knocking foes down etc. or will it be just a speed boost?

I find it hard to sit and read much of what I see here. People be thankfull for what news you get. Dont sit and do a page count or a word count. There was an interview...you got the interview. We know as fans of Darkfall you want new news. That is what Ara tried to give you. And what has happened today??? You attack him for it. As a long time reader of gaming forums, I have come to see many flamers and basically just ignore them. If there are legitamate issues, lets try to work together to get you what you want..dont bite the hand of those that are trying to get you your news.

I think that they meant that it will only effect town building. Players might still be able to build a solo house where ever they want.

See, they only say "build on and set up towns". Now, the devs also stated before that you will only be able to set up a town if your clan controlls a clan stone. I think thats what they are refering to.

It was said before that all your characters will share the same alignment because they're all from the same race that means 1 race, and now 1 server has been revealed.

I think that's where the 1 server 1 race 1 alignment comment came into play.

only thing that hasn't been mentioned yet i'd like cleared up, is:
Warcry- How is death handled in Darkfall?

Darkfall Team- When you hit 0 heath you fall to the ground, you are not dead but can not move or release. You can be revived at this stage by a healer or the enemy can finish you off. Guilds that are smart will have ganking groups that come in after the main battle force to finish off the wounded. The ganker group can push the healers out of the way finish off the enemy and then take out the healer. These groups will also loot much needed supplies from the battle field.
so if you get knocked out, you can't even release? that seems like it would be irritating if someone just knocked you out and walked away..
and how long do you stay in this state if nobody finishes you you off or rezzes you?
i'd assume that eventually you either croak from bleeding or recover enough naturally to get up and save yourself.. but which one, or is either possible..?

but anyway, props to ara and to the devs for this article..

im sure that the "knockout" only lasts for a bit of time. So if they dont slay you, then you can get back in the fight.

So the stance where you can build a 'house' almost anywhere has changed?

It was stated in the past that you could place a house almost anywhere (omiting key dungeon spots and such I would assume) but that it would not be protected or have the benifits of building near a town.


5.76 Player Houses
Well, if he builds his house in no mans land, outside of any clan-owned territory, then he is taking a risk. Most probably, houses in unclaimed lands will be able to be burned to the ground. Sooner or later most of the land is going to be claimed buy clans, and then it depends on the clan that owns the land. *But* we might limit the burn-switch to a certain radius around the cities, since if you really want protection, you should stay close to a city.

Finally made it home!!! Lol, I have no idea how I was the first to find this (it was the only time i checked warcry.com all day) but I haven't had the chance to read it until now.

Great interview, btw. The stuff about ships is really exciting, especially about how many people it will take to man a fully loaded ship...

"Darkfall Team- Oh yes some of the largest ships can hold an entire clan, and would have many guns." Hmmm... does that mean that people can bind to the ship??? I guess probably not, but I can't wait to find out.

Anyway great stuff, and plenty of it was new. I hope we can get the com. lines a bit more stable in the future so that people don't get all hyped up like children who've just eaten half their weight in sugar, but it looks like that's in the works. To those who are still finding ways to critisize - how much info have we received over the past 3 months compared to the entire year before that? Settle down. Get a job, or do more homework. Trust me, it makes the time between updates go much quicker.

Mah, I try and think of worse things I could be doing. Wife and I saw a group of about 30 "Jedi" LARP'ing about in the park and woods by our home. As she stared at them open-mouthed I saw my opening and took it. I told her I'd be more than happy to stop playing on the computer all the time if we could go out and buy me a lightsaber so I could join them. We could even invite some friends to come hang out and watch.

Never had another complaint from her about gaming.

Crafters will also be needed to upgrade and repair items, the crafters will need supplies to do this and thus the warriors will need to get these supplies. This will create supply lines in large battles and thus a whole new tactical situation for the players on both sides to think about. We want battles that are epic, and we want everyone to have a place in this.

This made me smile.

I'm guessing its going to be quite a while longer to wait, they haven't started signups for individual players yet, and we don't know whether or not they're finished organizing the entered clans in the various stages either.I understand that having organized clans would help for addressing issues but personally I have been around longer then some in those clans, and just because I do not wish to be in a clan I have to wait much longer :/
