The eyelids rose slowly, revealing a pair of black eyes that grimly studied the small room. Nothing had changed since yesterday...nothing had changed for three days.

A deep sigh accompanied a weak attempt to stand up. The heavy iron chains didn

I rather enjoyed the story Raven, I do hope you continue.

"Carry a blade when you try to steal from a mage... so you can kill youreslf before he catches you,"

I must say that put a big smile on my face, I have a friend whom I need to teach this saying to. (He wants to be a thief I want to be a mage). Mind if I copy that into my sig for a while?

Finally, I got around to writing a sequence. I was very pissed off yesterday, when I started writing, and that might show in the text :) well, you don´t have to read it..you´ve been warned!
-------------------------------------------------

White emptiness. Endless empty space was the only existing thing. Rage, frustration... desire for revange. These were the only feelings. Yet revenge was out of the question. It would be unjust. And...there was still too much love for revange to be possible. There was always too much love.

A betrayal had occured. And yet...none had betrayed anyone. Execpt for destiny. It´s cruel games were the only betrayal... Cold. Darkness. Nothing but a frozen soul, tortured and destroyed by destiny. Left in the dark streets of the city... Left to die in the freezing rain. Maybe it did die. The soul? The body? Both?

And then life came back. A great fiery eye in the middle of the cold emptiness. Right in front... laughing. Making fun of the desperate, helpless insect before it... naked, completely exposed. It was torture.

"What do you want? I have no soul for you to steal. Why don´t you leave me alone? Why do you come to laugh at my misery. Caged, beaten, abandoned... murdered. Thief. Leave. Don´t steal the remains of my soul! Thief! Go away, Thief! Thief...thief..."

"Thief! Wake up, prisoner!" Conciousness. Struggle to regain sanity..pain. But this time it was the body that felt pain..not the soul. It was better this way. Bright light behind the closed eyelids.
"Ye, prisoner! Wake up, ye got a visitor"
A vicious voice...the guard.

The prisoner, a miserable character in the corner of his cell, opened his eyes... and stared straight into the rising sun, that entered the dungeon through a small window on the opposite wall. It was a huge fiery orb..like a great, laughing, eye, that made fun of his imprisonment with is´t freedom. It´s light hurt the eyes that were used to darkness.
"Ahh," the prisoner groaned, shading his eyes with his hand. A metalic clang, caused by his shackles, could be heard as he moved his hands.
"Damn. I must be losing my mind in this place. The ghosts of the past are haunting me like never before... and the present ones aswell!"

"Did ye hear me, prisoner? Ye got a visitor..and she don´t like to be kept waitin´!"
The prisoner tore himself back into reality - however miserable it was - and focused on the other side of his dungeon. The thick wooden door was open. Not that it would do him much good, since he was shackeled to the opposite wall. The guard stood in the doorway, looking very grim. Like a child, who was about to lose it´s favourite toy. The prisoner grinned... this sour expression promised good to him.

He quickly changed the grin into a polite smile.
"She? How interesting," he spoke as if he had no troubles in the whole world, "well, then don´t keep her waiting. Show my visitor in, o´ sunny one!" he continued, speaking like master speak to his servant.
"You...I ain´t your errand boy, you..."
The guard approached, foaming, with his hand raised...the prisoner kept the smile on his face.
"Guard! That´s enough! Leave us."
A bright and strong voice, though it had an edge of frustration in it, interfered.

Much to the prisoners suprise, the guard actually stopped, looking quite frightened. His guest seemed to have quite an influence. The prisoner decided to be careful about this... whatever it was.
"But...m´lady. This here is a dangerous criminal...I dare not leave ye alone with this stinky bas.."
"I think I can handle one shackeled thief," a hooded character spoke and entered the small cell, showing a vicious looking sword that was resting her side, "about the stinky-part," she continued, giving the guard a sniff as a hint, "...I´ll forget you said anything"
The prisoner couldn´t stop a laugh and recieved a cold stare from both of them. The hooded woman spoke to the guard again:
"You can go now. You can lock the door behind you if it will make you feel safer. I´ll call for you when my business here is done."
Giving them both another grim look, the guard exited the cell, though reclutanlty. And he didn´t lock the door.
The prisoner and the women were left alone.

"I´m sorry about the grim stinkball there..it´s hard to find good staff these days," the prisoner started in a dicievingly polite voice.
"And you... Keep that tongue of yours behind your teeth or it might get much shorter," he was interrupted... very impolitely.
"I hear you are the thief who recently broke into the mages guild. A foolish act. Nobody has ever managed to get into that building without the permission of the mages... before you that is."
It seemed ridiccilous to start denying:
"Why, thank you! It wasn´t that hard really..."
"Silence, prisoner!"
"I do have a name you know..."
"Your name doesn´t matter. You are a thief and a criminal and you should be punsihed for your eavil deeds. That is all that matters."
Then why are you here, thought the thief.
"However," the hooded lady continued (I´m willing to trade your freedom in exchange for a little favour, the prisoner recited in his mind), "There is a way you could redeem your foul deeds and maybe eaven regain your freedom."
Ahh..close enough, the thief waited silently and this threw the women off balance for a brief moment.
"I.... there was a raid on one of the cities nearby. Many of the people who tried to defend the city were killed and some were taken prisoners. If you agree to use your dark skills for good this one last time, help me to free the captives and then never use them again, I might be willing to..."
"Who are you?" the prisoner interrupted, throwing the women off balance yet again, which seemed to frustrate her, "How do you know so much about the war on the border and what authority do you have to set me free?"
"I... am a knight commander of the White Order. That gives me plenty of authority
to set a thief like..." this time she was interrupted by the thiefs lughter. The hooded lady stood completely still and the thief guessed she was fighting the urge to gut him, but he couldn´t stop laughing.
"The Order making a deal with a criminal?! Well this is unheard of. Doesn´t your code forbid that, oh Great Knight of The Light? Why doesn´t The Order send an army..."
"Silence!" The knight bellowed, "You have tested my patience long enough, so keep your mouth shut if your life is of any worth to you. You are in no position to ask questions. I have made you a simple offer, stupid thief. Take it and you have a chance of being a free man again or rot here for the rest of your miserable little life!"

The thief contined his silent laugh through the entire last sentance. This whole situation was just too absurd that he suspected he was having some twisted dream.
"So, you want me to sneak into an orkish warcamp.."
"I didn´t speak anything about an orkish...," The knight protested, but the thief wouldn´t be interrupted, "free a bunch of starved, weak, half-dead, people and somhow drag them out of there?"
"I never spoke about an orkish.."
"But it is an orkish warcamp, isn´t it? Since nobody else is attacking this place as far as I know. I´m not stupid, o´ Great Knight of Goodnes."
The hooded lady stood quietly.
"I think I might be better off rotting in this place, o´ Greatness, than risk being caught by the orks and sacrificed to their fire lizzard.."

This time the hooded knight was obivously shaking with rage...
"I gave you a choice... But I guess there isn´t room for any good deeds in your dark heart!"
She furiously turned around to exit the cell.

However, the thief had no desire to spend the rest of his days in a cage. And... there was something about those last words that touched his heart... eaventhough, he´d never admit it.
"But it´s middle of the summer" he spoke after the knight, "and there´s quite a ride to the border through the wilderness... I could use a good tan."
The knight had stopped by now and the prisoner continued:
"If you promise me that I´ll be freed afterwards, I will come with you."
There was a moment of silence and the thief could swear he heard a silent sigh of relief. Then the lady turned around, lowering her hood. The thief observed that she had long, blonde, hair and her eyes were deep blue... and unaturally cold. She was also a bit shorter than him, though he was pretty short himself. When she spoke, her voice was as cold as her stare.
"If you free the prinsoners, you´ll have paid for at least some of your eavil deeds...if you do this you´ll have your miserable freedom."
"If I survive..." the thief sighed as the knight summoned the guard.

"Release the prisoner... he´ll serve the rest of his sentence in a more useful manner," she spoke with authority in her voice as the guard returned.
"But...butbut... this is a sentenced criminal! I can´t free this scumbag! It´s not..."
"Do you question the White Order, guard?" the knight spoke, locking her freezing stare with the guards. The guard lowered his eyes.
"No, m´lady," he said sourly and slowly freed the thief from his chains.
"Why, thank you, o´ sunny one! Uff... Please, do take the ladys advice and take a bath once a month," was the only thanks he got.
"Ye bastard...ye´ll be back here soon enough... ye all come back!"
The thief just walked past him following the knight out of the city dungeons.

"We leave in two hours," the knight spoke to the thief, who was rubbing his wristst to get the blood going again and trying to ignore the rest of his complaining body. "you have an hour to get new clothes... and take a bath. I´ll be watching you the whole time, so better don´t try to escape. I have horses waiting..."
"We leave at sunrise tomorrow. I have some personal issues to take care of before we go," the thief spoke disregarding the woman.
"I don´t have time to lose! Don´t make such obivous attempts to escape..."
"We leave at sunrise tomorrow, or we don´t leave at all. I can always return to my cell. There´s plenty of time until next full moon. The orks won´t sacrifice anyone before that," the young woman seemed suprised that a mere thief knew so much but tried to maintain control.
"You are just trying to escape..don´t play these silly games with me thief."

The knight might have been in control but he wasn´t going to obey her quietly like a marionette.
"I gave you my word, lady. I won´t..."
"The word of a thief, hah!"
"If I don´t have my honor, what do I have? Thiefs aren´t filthy murderes you know...at least not all of us..."
"I´m not stupid enough to trust you!"
"Either trust me or throw me back in the cage. I gave you my word, and I will keep to it. Anyhow...more than two hours will pass if we keep arguing. Just get my equipment back - all of it - and meet me at the Strangers Pleasure tavern an hour before sunrise tomorrow. The owner keeps the place open all the time... You have no choice, unless you want to throw me back in the dungeon where I´ll be of no use to you?"
For the second time that day the young woman shook. This time out of frustration.
"You´re impossible! Were´re wasting time and you keep playing these silly games! Alright then, go! But if you try to escape, I´ll chase you down... and your death will be slow and painful!"
"I wouldn´t have it any other way, o´ Mighty Warrior Of Light!" he was rewarded with yet another frustrated sigh.
"One more thing. My name might not matter, but I want to know what to call you."
The young woman stood still, looking uncertain, for a few heartbeats.
"Sonia.... That´s my name, Now leave before I change my mind and tie you to my horse! I´ll be waiting at the tavern...better be there!"
The thief didn´t answer, just slowly walked away.
"And you?" Sonia shouted after him, "I....what´s your name...?" a slight red rose to her cheeks. She got mad at herself because of this uncertainty and blushed eaven furher. The thief couldn´t stop a slight smile.
"Kyron."
He dissapeared into the alley.

Seems I´ll have to start over...as soon as I have the time.
