Yeah, that interviewer was more of a carebear than some of the May 06's we've received on the boards. Crazy looking warpig though!
Yet no info on Dwarves...I swear I'm gonna chops someone's legs off at the knees if we don't get some Dwarf pics or lore or SOMETHING soon.

my thoughts exactly, they aren't great but they are a hell of a lot better than most screenshots we have got:)
At least we know what one of the new racial mounts look like :D
I think it would have been a better interview if the interviewers liked PvP to some degree. But the screenshots are great.

Yah, it's almost like he said "Wait? You guys have PvP in your game?!?! Ahh screw this..it'll never fly." And kinda ended the interview right there.

What I got out of reading that interview is this:
1) I'm glad we had something to read this weekend.
2) The writer likes PvE games on auto pilot.
3) The warpig looks badass.

and don't send me another pm asking if im someone's alt. because i would never be caught dead being that guy's alt.
shessh he's a carebear.
only redeeming quality is that he likes pie.

That was a great read. It's good to see a reviewer who doesn't really like PvP give a good review of Darkfall.

SB was good until ubi and wp broke it and removed it's main attraction, risk.
As far as games out now though... yeah, pretty much jack shit on the market for pvp games.

I wonder how a guy who is running a website like that, who hates pvp, picks Darkfall as one of his subjects. Doesn't that seem somewhat weird?
Its cool though, Darkfall needs all the press and info it can get, and he had a tidbit of new info in there.

05-15-2006, 01:33 AM
I actually found this guy's story rather insulting.
They said a skill based system replaced character levels, however did not go into great detail about it. Perhaps they are hoping to hide the 13 year old twitch factor until beta.
What the fuck does this mean? Just because this guy is old and fat, and lacks the brains or reflexes to compete in a twitch style game, it suddenly means twitch games are for 13 year olds?
I fear that the realistic nature that they are pursuing though will limit the player base based on the current trend towards easy access MMOs.
I guess this guy doesn't realize that alot of the pvp community has been playing these games, and craving a game like darkfall, before most people even knew what a mmorpg was.
This style of game has a bad track record in the North American market.
Compared to what? WoW? A successful game doesn't mean it has to have millions of subscribers to be good.
What a fucking carebear ***.

05-15-2006, 01:37 AM
The intelligence of the authors of the post on MMORPG's seemed very narrow and limited (or like they've played WoW all there lives).
The part where he talks about the "13 year old twitch factor..." is complete crap too. Anyone can twitch at any age. Probably, better than a 13 year old too if you are smart about it.
"The project is defiantly ambitious, especially for a first game from a company."
Wait? did he just say "defiantly ambitious?" Don't you mean "definitely ambitious?"
But good find, awesome to see more information.

Nice with some news, but yeah the interviewer is extremely clueless. He seems to think it's a bad thing for a mmorpg to go against the dump-it-down tradition of the eq clones... wtf...
His general opinion seems to be that innovation is bad, lets continue doing the same boring shit all the others are doing.
Fighting mobs is really hard also he say... o'rly?

And "defiantly ambitious" was a good word choice and completely fit into context. Aside from that, the interviewer stunk like warpig dung.
And as to why anyoen would want to play anything else besides an Ork...bear in mind they still haven't shown us one hair of a Dwarf's beard. Watch what happen to the racial polls when Dwarfs get cut loose.

Really the interviewer is more or less anyone outside of this forum. They dont know much about Dark Fall and think "O great another mmo" because there are ALOT of them out there and its hard for people find good ones. O and the 13 year old shit is just messed up, I mean just because the guy cant move around the mouse with his flabby arms without reaching for a chicken wing dosent mean he has to diss a whole community

If however, you are a twitchy hard core PvP player looking for an MMO that focuses on combat then this game may be exactly what you are looking for.
Somes it up nicely. I didnt realize other players were twitchy like me...all that caffeine makes me unstable.
Darkfall needs to be feared by carebears all over the world. It is so vicious you could get sexually assaulted sitting beside someone playing it and even contract herpes.

sweet...
the war-warthogs are pretty sweet. too, cant wait to dismember a few of those tusks and heads and place them in my house =)
Question: if we can have dismemberment, if we kill stuff CAN we keep parts of their bodies and like, have them in our inventory or place them in like our boats or homes...ect.?

That what the devs were talking about doing a long time ago when they actually spoke, heh. They don't seem to be the type to have purposeless stuff in their game, so if dismemberment is in then I'd imagine that you should be able to stuff with the dismembered body parts.

The interviewer is clearly a slave to the modern industry of online money making games like WoW and the likes.
Keep the player online daily with grinding so that he/she for a longer time will pay the mothly fee of 15$.
Anyway..
I will defend him on the "13 year old twitch factor"..
I'm pretty sure he is not referring to children or anything like that..
What he means is that the first huge MMO launched alpha in 93-94, beta in 95..and is known as "Ultima Online". That game launched with a skillgain system rather than a level system, and was the predecessor of all these MMO's we see today, equal to Doom being the predecessor of all the later FPS games.
Cutting it short, he just meant that it was strange they did not go into detail with the "skillgain" system, as it's not exactly a brand new idea, it's actually the oldest idea from the first very popular huge MMO.
In my opinion Ultima is still the best MMO till this date!
I do hope that Darkfall can go back to the roots of MMO's which is where Ultima Online started....the big differences in modern MMO's and Darkfall are very similar to the difference of modern MMOs and Ultima Online 1995.
Ultima Online is still running, but has been turned into a "carebear" game like the rest, with many patches over the decade.
Some of us still fight to keep the original Ultima Online intact by building it ourselves *grins* but I really wouldn't mind spending some of my free time enjoying Darkfall as it truely sounds like it may bring back the vision Richard Garriot had when he first created Ultima Online.
I am convinced that the Developers and Concept creators of Darkfall have all played UO at some point.
I know what it is like to develop a PVP style concept of something when everyone else around you are making big $$ out of developing mainstream concepts... It gives you all the more reason to believe in your own project and remind yourself how much fun you had when you played the MMOs back in the day where freedom with responsibility and consequence was the main theme - You just want to recreate those feelings and share them with others because you know they'll be as excited as you were if you do the job right.
I don't ask for anyone to rush their job over at Aventurine, and the fact that they straight up tell the interviewers they are NOT a mainstream game clearly proves to me that they believe 100% in their project.
I am confident they'll release information when the time is right for it.

On most days worrying about where the enemy mobs are is enough for me.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call PK fodder... if he can't keep track of crappy AI movement, he wouldn't stand a chance against a person.

But really, the guys who run that site come off as a bit pussy don't they. Everytime the devs release somthing about this game I get that much more excited, but the website guys sounded like they were about to wet their pants and go back to playing WOW on a RP server.

Ya, I was reading and first thought was, 'what a fuckin carebear'. However, it helps point out the facts of what most of us want to see, and that this game definitely isn't pandering to the whiny ass EASY MODE crowd.
To sum up some of the E3 info so far, plus Brannocs EVIL tease:
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!

...bring back the vision Richard Garriot had when he first created Ultima Online.
Man, when did Garriot turn into such a pussy carebear. Honestly, the new game (http://www.playtr.com/index.html) he's making, wtf is that about. Seriously I question if his original vision for UO is what it is today.
Sorry, but that line stood out in your post the most. :P

"Ten Ton Hammer"? What an obscure website for DF to grant an exclusive interview. I think Razorwax should work towards building some conversation with places like Gamespot. The IGN partnership has been great.
I guess Razorwax was really looking to drop interviews with sites that the Darkfall faithful would find, while still staying under the wire for the most part. I get the feeling that Razorwax prefers to remain relatively unknown as they finish up development. Maybe they're concerned about keeping their feature list quiet, so that other developers don't get any bright ideas.
Still, it seems like DF is wrapping up the bulk of it's development, and if now is not the time for bigtime media relations, I'm beginning to wonder when will be.

05-15-2006, 06:37 AM
What a fucking carebear, pussy ass, can't handle the AI, piece of shit. Why did he interview Darkfall devs? Shouldn't he be at the WoW booth trying to stick his nose in someone's ass?
At least he gave it an overall good review. I still cant belive he said he cant handle the AI or want to worry about his friends killing him. I think he should go back to nintendo games with only 2 buttons and a D-pad.
Only two new screen shots, but wow they were great. Very nice detail and lighting. I would still love to see another race other than a human or Ork. It would assure me that the game is where they say it is in development.
Where is the warcry interview? I got back from a weekend trip expecting something from them, not a carebear. Why say they have a great interview but make us wait so long to post it. Oh well, maybe we will have a lot to see this week.

I wonder if Darkfall even plans to market to anyone outside of it's main target niche?
If the marketing is too hardcore it could alienate a large number of people that want to play the game but have goofy worries such as "Gee, I don't want to lose all my stuff."

This style of game has a bad track record in the North American market.
This is one of the silliest things I have ever seen. It's like saying... I dunno, because regular cars with wheels are so popular, flying car have a bad track record. Ya, things that don't exist generally don't have a good history, because they don't have any history. This does not imply that they have a bad history.
Point me towards any game that is even remotely like darkfall (seriously, please do, I'm bored out of my mind). The only games you might list are what: UO, SB and AC1? UO did not do badly commercially. SB was only really only similar to DF on the surface, there are fundamental differences. The only similarity is the scope of the PK. AC1 I never played but I think it did fairly well, and was also quite different from DF. Also, none of those 3 are twitch based or realistic physics which are the other attribute he used to typecast DF. So ya, what an idiot. He fails at life.

Shit, when I was on Pacific a few years ago. Fellucia wasn't empty, more like watch your ass or you will be pked. Nothing but war on practically every side of the moongate.
Orks? I use to explode + eb + fs. Them to ownage. And take Lord of the Rings for example, you don't see Orks' pwning the humans do ya? More like getting owned. Shoot, there gear sucked so bad, they left it for other people to loot. Plus it was all dirty, who has time to wash the garbage?

Yeah, there was alittle more included regarding Naval combat, how the weather will be somewhat predictable and how the wind will affect ship movements, which they mention before, but gives a sense of a few more traits to the sytem. They noted a variety of Character customization and 500 spells, which I guess goes along with the 500 skill set, but I don't think it has been mentioned as the skill set has. But yeah ot's pretty much the same info. with different inflection in minor parts of their story.

If you look behind the war pig, you will see a stone-henge like structure.

Thiers pleanty of Dwarf lore as well as the rest of the races

(we all know there isnt any other good pvp games)
Coming out eventually? I wouldn't say that. *shrugs*
The preview wasn't as enthusiastic as I would like it to be but he got across the message that DF will provide the type of pvp most MMOs rarely apply, FFA pvp that blends together the rules of UO and AC.

*sigh*
I meant as in a travels of agon or other new information. And we haven't seen screenshot one of the Dwarves, their cities, etc.

I think it would have been a better interview if the interviewers liked PvP to some degree. But the screenshots are great.
the amount of 'bias' is greatly reduced by having an interviewer who doesn't like PvP, imo anyway.
First I would like to say hi to all, new here. But loving the game already.

I wonder why so many of you are bitching about the guy, actually i think it is a good read and it's nice to see DF from a different point of view.
In a lot of preview/interview you hardly read any word of critics, and though i disagree with his opinion on pvp he is probably very correct that DF will start as a "niche" MMORPG.
And "the 13 year old twitch factor" - he is not refering to any 13 year old players here, as DevXLX has correctly pointed out....
Anyway, nice update and screens,w aiting for the next one.

BAH! Why is it that all these interviewers are crap for the most part? Poor EQ fags....UO did just fine until ppl like this interviewer came in and cried like the little bitch that they are...DOWN WITH THE CAREBEARS!
As for the warpig......Ill be sure to bring the sauce! DWARVES WILL EAT YOUR PIGS! FINGER LICKING GOOD! :D
LONG LIVE THE DWARVES!

DWARF POWER!!!
blahblahblah The Warpig is really great damn blahblahblah
Warpigs! With sharp pointy teeth! Like in that Black Sabbath song...
There's nothing quite like an entire thread of giddy 13-year old twitchers.
If you want a more PvP-centric POV, go check out the articles on Warcry or IGN.... oh wait. :lmao:

The sad part is, they might have shown them dwarves in that interview, but the guy didn't talk about it. The interview was more intent on the game features, and how he disagreed with them, then on info. For instance the new piece of info about the war pig, wasn't talked about...

The thing i loved the most about that interview is the fact that the interviewer makes a fool of himself by claiming that the freedom will limit the players.

Darkfall, currently being developed in Athens , Greece . It has been in development for over 3 years and is getting close to a beta release.
Quite a bit over 3 years =D
But that is pwn. And I already see new pwn sigs!
I cant wait for DFO to go live! However I am really unimpressed with the interviewer what a nub, he's sitting there trash talkin the MMO many pvp centric clans/guilds have been waiting for and for some of us we have been waiting years since UO. To call us a bunch of 13 year old twitch gamers, what an insult... the interviewer doesn't know anything about a clan warfare/economic/social/pvp MMO, if he did he wouldn't of called us 13 year olds, why? because a 13 year old wouldn't survive the ingame politics among other things, so mr. interviewer go run back to your EQ clone crying oh nos! PEEKAY! as we stab you in the back and FULL LOOT your sorry ass.
Besides that... very awesome screenshots and cant wait to see old friends and enemies, DFO is goin to be a blast!

EDIT: and just because it SAYS he's been in the forums since 1980 doesn't mean squat.

Why would anyone allow this fella to do an interview for darkfall?!?!
He is the type of person who would be hollering for changes after a few months of play.. ( ala nearly every mmo with any pvp at release)..
Im sorry, Mr. interviewer but darkfall is what north american gamers have been craving and will do very well in sales/subscribtions

The interview didn't really tell us anything new, and for some reason the interviewer felt compelled to interject his own opinion numerous times instead of focussing on the game. Also: he's a pussy.
