I never saw the mini series, but bought the book. It was good enough that I couldn't put it down and read it in two days. I started watching the series now and it follows the book pretty well, but still lacks that insight you only get from books. All in all it seems an unbiased look at the invasion of Iraq by the Recon Marines and their modern day personalities. Recommended.

**edit - Info might help some. The book is written by an embedded reporter from Rolling Stones and is seen from his perspective. He was with them in all the fire fights and didn't bitch out like most reporters. He was even passed a rifle at one point. He was in the northern most unit in Iraq for most of the invasion.

I've recently watched the mini series and I really liked it. Alot of people complain that there isn't enough action and it's too much talk but that is exactly how realistic it can be. Waiting for orders, complaining because the orders could've been better. Equipment should've been better etc, it may be boring but it is realistic as hell.

Did you know there is IRL footage from them on youtube and some of the marines that were there, played theirself (or someone else) in the miniseries. Like "Fruity" Rudy.

"Let's go..Slay that dragon!" and "Stay Frosty" or memorable quotes.

HBO has pretty modest budgets when making it's programs. That's why they are 99% dialog with small amounts of real action. In the HBO series, the battles looks like small skirmishes. In reality, most of the city battles were actually really intense and by alot more forces than shown on the TV program. The book reflects that much better.
