Oh you just had to open up this can of worms didn't you. Darkfall sold it's PvP as being 'meaningful' and 'deep' when in reality not only is it as pointless and shallow as most other mmos, it's worse.

The reason for this is because of the same things that Darkfall boasted about i.e. being non-loot based and being full loot. Why this ever seemed like a good idea is beyond me, what's the point of looting when the loot itself is worthless, oh and what's the point of even wearing any armour and therefore sacrificing it in a PvP situation? Then again the phrase 'what's the point' seems to be a recurring theme in Darkfall.

I'll now compare it to the most arguably 'carebear' of mmos, WoW. The PvP in WoW is far more meaningful. Why? Because it actually acheives something for all the braindead clicking you've done. Yep. Not only that but PVP is basicaly all DF has. The city system is horrible, owning a cityi s more of a burden than a boon. Crafting is basic and when i played un profitable and tedious. Theres very few pvp hotspots because theres nothing worth fighting over. Pve was just terribad infact i hated the combat system in general. A much much slower version of quake only with bows and magic instead of rocket launchers isn't fun (atleast not for me) and Darkfall could of had so much better. I'd of prefered any generic eq clone mmos combat over DFs.

Not only that but the devs have a realy nasty habit of releasing half arsed features and saying they'll make them work in a later patch.

I had to pick between Lotro and WoW for RP. I picked WoW because it is the lesser of two evils. I still hate the fuck out of the game but that doesn't mean I wouldn't pick it over Darkfall anyday.

That's because once elemental magic is widespread, you really don't need to aim anymore. Darkfall's PvP was much better in the early days of EU and NA, where elemental was nonexistant and people had to earn their kills. Now, the zergs have elemental nukes, and the seriously bad players are still landing shots. It's all about numbers now, the skill ceiling drops severely as character progress.

I assume you're talking about afghans. Afghans are just cheating bastards, they'll use any bug,exploit or glitch they can find to try and get an edge over everyone else they've admitted to atleast trying to dupe and its most likely they acomplished it. They're the kind of people who spoil games for legitamate players and just because almost everyone else was doing the same doesn't let them off the hook.

Just to clarify i'm not saying afghans ruined darkfall because there realy wasn't much to ruin, infact you could argue that they added to the game with their non-stop shit talking, epeen flailing and pormotional videos. All i'm saying is that they're a shit alliance.

On another note i love lots of Mortals ideas but unfortuantely it seems like they just dont have the rescources to change them from a great idea into reality. Seems like they're planning to launch with the basics of their crafting and combat system and trying to grow the game from there which is only asking for trouble. I'll be interested to see how they handle the patching of the game since if they do it right there might be a glimour of hope they'll eventualy produce a good game but i'm not holding my breath.

There's nothing twitchy about the combat in Darkfall. You could take horse tranquilizers or slip into a coma and still play as well.

Naval battles are rare, mostly because of the insane cost of getting ships. Even with it reduced its not likely to happen. At best we had a ship or two assault a city, but even then the odds of the resources being exploited or duped to get said ships were high.

The 600 man battles feature didn't last very long. You'd be lucky to see 200 now with the low population, which had a nice jumpstart from the patch but it probably being negated by all the QQ macroers leaving.
But regardless of that, 600+ battles lagged like crazy, most of the crashed the server.
They were fun, but the server thats suppose to handle 10k players concurrently needs a lot of work.

Full loot is kinda pointless when everyone has banks full of gear...Mobs just drop waaay too much equipment, either that or the stuff doesn't get damaged fast enough.
But thats like asking for another horror patch of losing all your armor in one fight with some goblins.

Maybe if the mob ai wasn't exploited so much it would be different. So much for awsome mob ai! At best they got crippled quake bots.

FFA PvP....sure, but it seems meaningless when everyone is red. You pretty much know that guy or group you see in the distance is coming to kill you, even if they are conned blue. On top of all the game's problems, ffa pvp just isn't enough to keep people playing., especially with the gigantic world.
