I guess there is a Mad Mod on the loose as my original thread disappeared without so much as an acknowledgment of its existence.
For the record I have never ever played Guild Wars one. I had no desire to. I only play skill based games such as Ultima Online. I have never played a level based mmo. However this trailer impressed me not only graphically but design wise so I decided to share this to hear your impressions. If it has decent pvp count me on board. I love full loot FFA but if its fun I would give it a shot. Also keep an eye out on a certain FOUR LEGGED running race.. HINT HINT Aventurine. After seeing this trailer I feel like Darkfall is very very generic. But its just imho.
I have no idea what the system requirements would be to run it at that level. I would imagine a quad core with at least a nvidia 280 or equivalent or higher.

Guild Wars, Top 10 GvG's was the best I ever experienced.
As it was instanced it was easy to run even with bad pc's.
we will see how GW2 turns out I will def. try it.

was probably removed because it's in the wrong forum section - has nothing to do in GD, stick it in off-topic.

The game might be good, but imo that trailer A: looks like this compared to its made in 2009, and B: If you buy your games based on trailers im sure you have a very big shelve of games you bought but never really played :).
You can make a non rendered ingame video from Darkfall, from battles that happen every day - and it would totally blow that trailer away.
imho.

And where in that trailer do you get any idea of how the game play is? That trailer tells nothing, absolutely nothing about the game, its play style, its graphics, it is totally void of any real useful information.
DF is by far better than Guild Wars and if Guild Wars 2 is even remotely close to Guild Wars 1, its going to be fucking stupid. I picked up Guild wars for the cheap when there were not any real games out there I wanted to play and I didnt last long in it, bored the fuck out of me.

Darkfall is a competition for Guild Wars 2?! Don't me me laugh. With its dropping sub count, it won't itch GW2 even a little bit.

I dont see how, if you picked up a decent pvp guild and spent some time learning the metagame there was loads of fun to be had with the pvp. I played guild wars on and off for about 2 years, its a casual game and nothing like Darkfall (thankfuly).

Guild Wars 2 Trailer (http://kotaku.com/5341507/and-this-is-the-guild-wars-2-trailer)
regardless good show NCSoft.
Guild wars one was hardly level based, you could make a maz level character right away if all you wanted to do was pvp and you could reach the max level within a week of casual play if you knew what you were doing.
Unfortunately guild wars 2 seems to be taking a different approach and the level cap will be much higher. There was even talk of not having a level cap and just having a level curve that meant the higher level you were the less you would gain from leveing up but there would be in theory infinite levels.

I'd hardly call GW2 competition for Darkfall.. They are two completely different games. Guild Wars 2, if it truly will have a higher level cap, will make it even further from Darkfall than it is now. Sure, they're both PvP games, but Darkfall is skill-based, has twitch combat, full PvP, full loot, no safezones, etc.
The trailer showed nothing as well. Were those even in-game graphics or enhanced for the trailer? You know, the Old Republic trailer was also released. Do you think The Old Republic will be anything like this? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjhJcm-lpjc)
Nothing against either Darkfall or Guild Wars 2, but they are too different to be considered competition and you can't judge a game from a trailer.

That is not even polished ingame footage, that's a rendered cut-scene.

I'd say GW always had a lot more player skill than DF combat ever did.

Played guild wars for 20mins or so but it never really enthralled me and made me want to play more, the graphics are great but I don't like the instanced thing takes away the sense of community out hunting mobs and seeing others there too.
Trailer looks nice but anyone can make a game look good with a trailer, the lore sound mediocre at best maybe if I read into it I may find it better but from what I heard there sounds kinda.. meh. I'm really not keen on games with fantasy mixed with robots and plasma guns and things like that, I like it one or the other.
I suppose when it comes out if it's not too much and particularly grabs my attention i'll give it a shot assuming it follows the no monthly fee of previous guild wars titles.

Extensive instancing ruined the experience for me, but I agree that Guild Wars combat required far more player skill than Darkfall, though the latter is obviously more twitch based. I consider the intelligent use of skill combinations more impressive than mouse accuracy.

This game was fucking awesome back in the days too bad the expansions killed the game for me.
I had a huge blast in PVP and even the quest were fun haha.
I hope this time it won't be heavy instancing everywhere and that for once my character will be able to jump and swim!
Anyway I will give it a try for sure...

Kind of stupid to compare GW to DF.
Btw GW was a fantastic game, stupid to denounce it only to defend DF.

Guild Wars is my #1 online game i've ever played (so far) and top3 on my best games of all time.
I've logged over 4250 hours on GW of which 70% were spent in GvG, 20% waiting for GvG and AFKing and 10% PVE.
When i came home and looked at GameTrailers, i got an instant boner when i saw GW2. Obviously the first thing i did is sign up for the test krewe :D. GOD i hope i get in... been waiting for any news about GW2 since... well nightfall really (as EotN was meh for PVP peeps like me, dungeons were fun though).
But, Guild Wars 2 will rely heavily on instancing again. HOWEVER, the game also features a persistent world. I speculate that "random quests and PVE" are done in the persistent world. The story missions/quests/PVP etc will highly likely be fully instanced as GW1 was. And no, there is nothing wrong with instancing if done right and GW is the perfect example on how to do it right.

The trailer made GW2 look badass, but i played GW1 (not any of the expansions) when the max lvl was 20 (not sure if it changed) and i completely hated the game. There was no world pvp, everything was instanced and pvp/pve were lackluster. I played 1 or 2 chars to max lvl and got bored real fast. However GW2 seems def worth looking into...that trailer made it seem even more epic than darkfall.

Are you kidding? Instancing ruins the game for me. Ive always been about world pvp, you throw instances around and you lose all strategy to pvp. It all just becomes some 5v5 wow arena match.
I remember when GW 2 was first annouced, it states that it will be a persistent world, but I read that mayb 1-2 years ago

No you don't. The only difference between persistent and instanced is the world you fight in exists in a different format. But it still exists. You still use strategy to win, you just do it in an generated instance. Now if you want to say that instances take away from the meaning of PVP, because you're not fighting over persistent ground, that's another argument to make entirely. It's not really debatable however that you use strategy to win in instanced combat.

comparing DF & GW is like comparing apples and oranges, you might prefer one over the other but it's two different things.
GW is a pretty good story line driven theme park and still currently the best competitive arena PvP mmorpg, while DF is maybe the most hardcore sandbox designed mmo actually, it's two totally different concepts.

In one garbled run on on sentence you've communicated my thoughts on this subject.
Guild Wars was an awesome game. Although it had levels you'd hardly know it. It's almost inaccurate to say It's level based as you finish the levels so fast. It really is more skilled base even though it has levels. I hope Guild Wars 2 will improve upon the first game and be even better. And Guild Wars and Darkfall are too different to really be competing with one another.
Edit: Gah semi-necro.
