Can I Kick it had to be their greatest song ever made. Its background was simply amazing, the intro of it being sampled from "Walk On The Wild Side" by Lou Reed, a song about transexual male prostitutes.
I almost wish rap music took the format of these classics, instead of degenerating into advocacy of personal corruption.

Its not so much the monotone voice, the simple minded rhythms, or one of the few idiotic topics each song is about, it's the fact that people actually like that shit that I hate rap more and more.
Kind of the same way I feel about Christianity.

You just listen to crap rap, most of the mainstream stuff is piss poor these days (although i think eminem is quite decent) but theres loads of quality rap out there.

How dare you say such a thing about the master of rap, Will Smith.

The lyrics were definitely more interesting, but still whats with being monotone in the first and third? I just don't see what is so great about it. The first one I still hated the music though, even if the lyrics were interesting. The second one was meh, it was different but still didn't sound too great to me. The third one was probably the best out of the three, but still its not something I'd bother sticking on my mp3 player. If you let me edit in a sec I'll show you the song that I actually thought was pretty good from this thread.

Also this one, but I've heard it a billion times already and it's lost its awesomeness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaV3u-dUrjM

First off, I like both of those songs. However, I must ask how their content differs from your own description of the qualities why Hip-Hop is bad in contrast to the other songs posted in this thread?
P.S. What's your favorite song in general?

I guess the best way to describe it is that it just sounds better. Its funkier.

Alright. Doesn't that make your earlier argument void, though? Was your earlier argument only about one sub-genre of Hip-Hop?

I deliberately picked a few songs which I thought that could fit your tastes in Hip-Hop after the vague example you set by the two songs you said you're enjoying. There's an abundance of stuff in the directions of that kind of Hip-Hop.
Hence, a few sub-genres of any genre shouldn't mold a solid scheme for you. Almost every kind of genre will most likely include several tunes you could deem very good.
Also, no, Hip-Hop isn't the clear "number one" genre for me

No, Rap is not a subgenre of Hip-Hop. Rap equals Hip-Hop. Rapping is what the MC does.
