Durin woke to a throbbing pain in his head and the sensation of his arms being pulled from his sockets. Looking around he realized that he was chained in a crude prison, his arms stretched as far as they could go by wrist irons attached to the walls. There was only one door and one window through which a small beam of moonlight shone, illuminating his dark cell.

He tried to gather his senses and remeber how he came to be in a cell in the first place.

Durin was a dwarf, well ripened as he used to say, which meant he wasn't as young as he would've like to have been. He had decided that the lifestyle of the adventurer was not for him and at a young age began a weapons dealership selling armor and weapons to dwarves, humans and the occasional elf. He had accumulated a considerable amount of wealth and sometimes indulged himself with his hobby, collecting old manuscripts and books. One day, in one of the old scrolls he was reading he came across a recipe for a weapon. No not a weapon, THE weapon, something so powerful that a god had wielded it. But the weapon had been destroyed and its pieces had been scattered across the known world.

Durin made it his life's mission to reconstruct the great weapon, he spent years traveling, risking life and limb to gather all the pieces, and to find all the reagents that would be neccessary to create the weapon. Using his fortune and his influence he had collected everything thing that he needed, except for one small part and one more reagent. He had been in a tavern looking for adventurers to hire to collect the last piece of the puzzle when the attack came.

It was orks, he could tell just from the smell. The raided the village, killed many and took a few as prisoners. He had been knocked out and when he came too, he was in this prison.

Durin assessed the situation. Apparently the orks hadn't taken the time to properly search him, his weapon was gone, but his considerably large coinpurse was untouched. Also a few other odds and ends were still on his body.

He had to get out of this prison. He could tell by the moon that they were not far into ork territory. Had he seen a blackened sky, he would've been worried. Durin had not come this far to have his plans ruined by some savage orks. He called out to the cells next to him. "Is anyone there? Can anyone hear me?" If he could contact someone, he could pay them to spring him from this jail.

((OOC, So this is new rp I'm starting. Just a couple of ground rules, no godlike characters unless your a villian, but then be prepared to die. um... Do not assume that someone elses char will act or do a certain thing, let them respond themselves. Try to keep it limited to 2 chars, and lastly enjoy yourselves, make it a good story. Character ideas, you can be one of the prisoners, one of the guards, you could be a raiding party that is riding in on the ork town for vengeance or something else. Have Fun:lmao: ))

Fortune definitely isn't smiling today.. that or she's a sadistic bitch..
Ray was sitting with his knees to his chin, sharing a tiny hidey-hole with a local bartender.

Everything had been going fine, Ray was well on his way to getting shitfaced enough to ward off dreams for the following night, when a commotion went up outside.
Looking out the window he had positioned himself by, Ray could see fires spreading through the far side of the city.
Oye.. no rest for the wicked.. at least this neighborhood is made of stone..
Just before turning to the door Ray noticed a large band of heavily armed and armored orks rushing the local militia garrison directly across the street. After a very brief striggle at the front door, the orks were in.
Aww hells.. looks like I'm all alone on this one..
Looking around the room that he was in, Ray could see that none were fighters. Most were fleeing upstairs, some outside, and the rest were drinking like it was their last day on Agon. The bartender on the other hand, was reaching for something under the counter.
Don't tell me the fat slob has a blade.. maybe a crossbow..
Ray walked over to the man, and peered over the counter just as he opened a well-concealed trap door.
Yep, much more fitting..
Drawing a stiletto, Ray asked the bartender, "Is there room for two in there?"
The bartender jumped at the sound of his voice. Looking around wildly, he began to shake his head, "I can barely.. Oh."
Apparently he had relised who was going to be using the hole if there was only room for one. "Yes sir.. plenty enough for two.." And with that, the fat man was in the hole, scrunching himself up against one side and trying to suck in his immense gut.

And that is why Ray was in this uncomfortable situation now.
At least it beats death and torture.. those orks are probably pretty pissed about that whole assassination affair the other day..
Hours had passed since he had climbed into this pit, and Ray hadn't heard any screams or heavy ironclad feet lately, meaning it was time to get the hell out of here.
Ray opened the hatch and peered out. It was clear. A bit of squeezing and shoving later, and he was out, leaving the fat bartender to wallow in his filth alone.
Geh, I smell like an ork now..
Making his way to a window, Ray could see no orks in sigh aling the street, except for one standing guard outside the garrison. Ray drew his bow and a nice bodkin, nocked and fired. The ork was dead before the shattered glass from the window could hit the ground.
Another moment later and Ray had his gladius in hand, stepping silently into the garrison's front door.

Inside, Ray could hear a drunken orken revelry underway somewhere ahead, and so he made a quick left into a stairwell. From the smell, he was heading for the dungeons.
Maybe I can find an extra arm in here..
At the base of the steps, Ray stopped and drew his bow.
Taking in a deep breath, he stepped around the corner and drew.
Ray took the room in at a glance. Five cells, a table in the middle, and three orks dicing on it. The first arrow took the roller right in the throat. By the time his companions had drawn steel and found the source of the feathers decorating their companion, a second arrow was slicing through the air, and slammed into another ork's chest, peircing layers of steel and mail and protruding clear out the back.
By now the last ork in the room was charging, and Ray was barely able to toss down his bow and pull his quarterstaff free in time to parry a nasty cleave from the ork's battleaxe. Bringing the parry into a thrust, Ray gave the ork a nice jab to the eye, following with a roundhouse kick to the jaw. The ork still managed to flail out with its axe, putting the spike a solid inch into Ray's left arm. A heavy one-handed swing with the staff connecting with the ork's cranium ended the fight, sending the oversized toad to his knees, and then onto his face.

Ray took a moment to catch his breath and monitor his wound before walking over to the table, sliding the coin piles into his purse as he glanced around, "Anybody alive?"

OOC this was before Ray.

Twed lifted his crocodile maw up as he heard murmuring coming from within the dungeon. Bored Twed stood up on double jointed legs and yawned, his jaws spread wide, wide enough to hold a dwarfs head, and multiple sharp teeth were revealed. Twed was only two feet tall, while in his normal stance, but could stretch his legs to make himself another foot, if needed, but it was uncomfortable. Twed wore armor, made out of leather, which was added protection above his reddish black scaly skin. Twed spread and folded his leathery wings, than quickly moved his bony frame up onto a chair. As agile as a cat, he hopped onto the table that stood in the center of the room. His sudden appearance surprised the half awaken Ork, who was leaning back against a chair on the other side of the table.

“Hairy Alfar”cussed the Ork “Stop surprising me like that.”

Twed moved his jaw to show his teeth, his way of smiling at the Ork. Twed understood the Ork and replied back in his own tongue, since he could not form the words to communicate back in the Orks language. The Ork shook his head not understanding the yapping sound coming out of Tweds mouth. Twed flexed his wings, annoyed with the stupidity of the Ork. If he could learn the Orks language the Ork should have been able to learn his.

Twed had latched onto this Ork and his clan for over a year now. They regarded him as a pet and nothing more. The Ork clan provided Twed with protection and kept him well fed, so he stayed. Twed was an able fighter, good with any type of spear and a short bow, and could cast a few spells, which he kept hidden from the Orks. Even though Twed could fight he was small and weak, thus his kind found protection via numbers and/or latching onto a stronger race. Tweds tribe was quite large and had the protection of a large elderly green dragon. His tribe would mine and mint coins for the dragon while the dragon provided protection to the tribe. Twed, however, wanted to explore and thus left his tribe over a year ago. This Ork was the first he had come across that would provide him with the protection he needed and was mobile enough to suit Tweds wandering lust.

Twed jumped off the table and flew to the top of the door that led into the dungeon. Behind him he heard the Ork wake up the other two and assumed they would be starting a game of dice. He slipped his bony frame through an opening on the top of the door and dropped to the floor on the other side. He knew the prisoners would talk thus allowing him to learn.

Before Durin could even answer his nameless neighbor in the cell next to him, he heard the sound of combat outside his cell. He listened intently, straining his neck to get a view of the commotion outside his cell. Suddenly the noise died down, he heard someone moving about outside his door and heard them say. "Anybody alive?"
Durin spoke as fast as he could. "Yes, I'm alive! You have to get me out of here. Free me from this prison and I will pay you handsomely. Get me across the river to a certain manor I will see that you are richly rewarded! Anything you want, just get me out!"

Hmm, wasn't looking to pick up baggage, but a wealthy... dwarf... could be an asset. And I do love the word reward.

Looking around, Ray spotted a ring of rusted keys on one wall. Picking them up, he walked over to the cell that the voice had come from. Ray opened the door, with some little difficulty, then walked over to a dwarf chained rather uncomfortably to a wall.
"Alright, but there's conditions. Until I say we are out of danger, you don't do anything I don't tell you to. I'm not about to get caught because some blundering dwarf decides to play hero. Got it?"

Durin looked at the elf ((OOC, assuming your an elf)) with disbelief. He had expected at least a party of 5, a professional fighting force to deal with the orks. This was just a small time thief. He looked past the elf and saw the prone bodies of several orks. A singular elf did this, my my, not a bad job at all, for an elf. He could come in handy later on.

"Alright, but there's conditions. Until I say we are out of danger, you don't do anything I don't tell you to. I'm not about to get caught because some blundering dwarf decides to play hero. Got it?"

In his youth Durin would not have let that comment slide so easily. But he was older now and he knew the elf was right. He was prepared to be disrepected as long as he got out of this prison. If he hired this guy later he would learn that Durin the dwarf is not talked too in such a manner, but now he was ready to leave.

"Fine, just let me out."

The elf unlocked the chains and Durin rubbed is sore wrists. He reached into his pouch and brought out a handful of silver and put it in the elf's hands. "There is more where that came from. Just lead the way, I'll follow."

It was only then that Durin remebered the other guy in the cell next to his...

OOC: ok I missed the part on Rays post where the cells were in the same room. I will have Twed sitting on top of the one of the cell doors thats unoccupied.

Bah another post got in just before mine. Have to adjust my ending.

********************

Twed was resting on top of the left most cell door, which sat one foot below the ceilling, waiting to hear the whispers of the two prisoners that resided in the 3rd and 4th cell.

Twed heard a sound and saw his Ork fall to the ground with an arrow in his throat. He spotted the elf as he let loose another arrow. Another Ork fell, while the last charged the elf. Twed moved his head slowly turning it so light wont bounce of his eyes. The elf quickly dropped the last Ork and than collected the coins off the table. Twed stayed perfectly still within the dark shadows that hung down from the ceiling as the Elf studied the room. The elf than spoke but his words flew out to fast for Twed to, at first, understand their meaning. However, once one of the dwarf replied he than grasped what the Elf words meant.

Twed felt slightly bad for his Ork but not enought to risk his own life. He will now have to find a new protector; Maybe this Elf or the Dwarf within the cell. On the other hand, the dwarf got caught by the Orks and the Elf did not. There is still the prisoners in the other cells, to consider. I will follow and study them to see who might be a canditate.

As he thought this the prisoner from the 5th cell open his door and walked out talking.

Durin smacked away the hand of the skinny human. "You did nothing to assist in this escape and yet you think you deserve some of the reward." He looked for the prisoner that had spoken to him earlier. He was still chained to his wall, and his mouth was bleeding profusely.
Durin didn't want his rescue party to be hindered by a human who appeared to be knocked out. But he felt slightly bad about leaving him there.
"Unlock his chains, but leave him here. If he wakes up he can make his own escape. No need to be weighed down by another escapee."

He made his way to the room where the orks had kept the loot. Durin had never dressed to extravagantly and he was grateful for that now. As rich as he was he felt no need to attract the attention of the thieves and murderers of agon. He traveled in a simple homespun robe, and had recently started using a staff. He did have a ring though, which appeared to be missing. He found his staff and prepared to leave this dungeon once and for all. He looked at the sky, the moons were waning. In a couple of hours it would be morning and Durin did not want to be here when that happened.

Suddenly without warning he heard the sound of footsteps, and ork was coming down to check on the prisoners,

Og the ork had been sent to check on the prison guards. Sometimes orks got hungry after battle and they needed these prisoners for sacrifice in the morning. They were breaking camp in about 2 hours and he was sent to make sure all the prisoners were still alive and relatively well.

He walked downstairs to the dungeon. What he saw surprised him the mangled bodies of three ork warriors. Standing in the center was a human boy with a gigantic sword resting on his shoulders. Og was consumed by the battle rage of his people, he drew his one-sided axe, and his short sword with ridges cut in it to make it more cruel. He charged the boy with a roar that must have woken half the camp.

As the others focused on the human walking out of the last cell, Twed dropped from the top of the door, spread his wings, slowed his distant and landed as soft as a feather on the floor, within the first cell, a hop away from an unconcious prisoner chained to the wall.

Twed crept silently to the door and pushed on it. Twed knew, from the rambling of his Ork earlier, that the door on this lock was broken. The door opened and the rusty hinges cried out loudly, causing all heads to turn in his direction. The two humans, the elf and the dwarfs mouths dropped open when they saw Twed step out. Twed got out one yap before he stopped, after hearing what appeared to be heavy footsteps coming down the hall.

Twed, shut the door behind him, moved over, ignoring the group, to the pile of weapons and equipment, pulled out his small backpack and shortspear and dropped them in the floor in front of him. As Twed was grabbing his composite shortbow and quiver, full of arrows, the footsteps had reached the end of the hall and an Ork appearedd from around the corner. The Ork saw the dead bodies of his brethern, drew an axe in one hand and a sword in another and charged the group, the closest member being the human with the large sword.

Twed raised his bow, pulled out an arrow and aimed at the mid-section of the Ork before he let his arrow fly.

Durin saw the ork and the boy collide, he heard the boy yell help, but he was more interested in the lizardman that had just walked out of the cell. Durin, being the business dwarf he was, made it a point to know as many languages as he could. He was pretty sure he could communicate with this lizardman. He saw the wings on the creature and that gave him an idea. He pulled a small blue stone from his pocket, barely a pebble.

"Here" Durin said in the lizards own tongue. "This is a stone that will allow us to communicate from long distances. I will get you whatever you want, if you fly up high, real high and tell me the orks movement patterns when we escape here. Just speak into this stone whenever the orks are near us. OOC: Raybur, I hope your blow wasn't meant to be the killing one. If so, I'm sorry.

IC: The impact of the orks sword was enough to bring Delusive to his knees. Unfortunately the pain didn’t end there. In the orks rage he failed to stop his momentum and went down to the ground with Delusive. The weight of the large sword and the ork were difficult to bare. A gasp of air escaped Delusive’s lungs, followed by a yelp of pain.

To top things off, the weight of another came crashing down on the back of ork attacker, causing tears to flow down Delusive’s face. But these were not only tears of pain, but tears of anger.

Delusive thought to himself, “How did I let myself get into this mess? I am better than this. NO, I AM STRONGER THAN THIS!!!”

The anger was boiling over inside him and strength was vastly flowing through his veins.

With all his strength and a mighty scream, Delusive began pushing himself from the ground. He could feel the weight of the two atop him slowly lessen as they slid from his back.

Once upright, he turned once again to face his foe. Delusive reached above each shoulder and loosened the straps that held his sword. The blade struck the ground, burying itself just enough to conceal the point. Delusive then stepped forward and to the left, letting the hilt fall into the palms of his hand. He then slowly stepped to the wall to the right. Now was his chance. Whoever this new companion was allowed Delusive just enough time to prepare for the attack.

He was in position now, every vein stood out in his arm from the weight of the mighty sword. He screamed to the person holding the gladius, “Watch yourself!”

And with that Delusive began his run. As he reached the end length of his sword, the tip pulled from the ground. With momentum on his side, Delusive planted his feet and shifted his weight from his right to left. The large sword was too big for the room, and the tip met with the right hand wall, but that didn’t stop it. The blocks that made up the wall began to crumble under the mighty power of the sword. As the blade left the wall and was closing in on its target, Delusive closed his eyes and hoped things would turn out well.

Durin watched as the gigantic sword nearly cleaved the ork in two. The elf barely managed to evade the gigantic sword. Durin, as short as he was, also had to duck when the blade came swinging by, scraping against the walls. What strength! he though to himself. I'm defenitley going to have to keep an eye on that one as well. He could really come in handy.

Things had quickly gotten out of control though. There was no doubt that the orks had heard the ruckus. In a few minutes this whole camp would be swirling with the monsters. As skilled as these warriors were he doubted they could take on an entire contingent of orks. He knew one way to get thieves and sellswords moving though.

"The first person to get me through the woods and across the river to my manor gets 20 gold bars!"

That should get everyone moving he thought. He could only pray that the lizard had understood what he was saying. He had never actually had to use that language. Their success could depend on whether or not that creature had understood him.

Ray felt his blade sink into the ork, but right away it began to rise, and Raybur felt himself thrown back. Looking up, he saw the ork turning away from him to face the boy.
How the hell is he on his feet after that.. oh shit!
Ray dived out of the way as the massive sword crashed through both the wall and then the ork beside it, before passing just above the back of his legs.
Ray turned from where he lay and simply stared at the young man. Damn, well that ought to come in handy..
Ray was just getting to his feet when the dwarf shouted, "The first person to get me through the woods and across the river to my manor gets 20 gold bars!"

Ray looked over at the dwarf, "All right, all right, calm down little man, I'm on it. Good thing I've been locked up in here before.. You guys watch the stairs."
With that, Ray walked into the cell with the broken lock. After a brief search, he found a crack between two brick, and with the help of a dagger, quickly began working bricks free. After a few short moments, a small tunnel was revealed, just large enough that even the broad dwarf could crawl through.
"All right, I'll go last, the kid can go first, I think the other side is boarded up, and he is apparently the strongest one here.."

Amused Twed saw the others move with purpose as the dwarf made his offer. Twed moved over to his backpack and spear. He reached down and grabbed a rope that was attached to the backpack and tied the loose end to his tail. He than attached his spear and shortbow to the backpack. Twed moved over to the remaining equipment and picked up coiled silk rope, attached to a collapsable grapple, and placed it in his backpack. He found a few daggers and stored them on his body.

Twed hopped over to the chimney and stepped in, as the elf began to work out a brick in one of the cells. Twed began to climb, as he had earlier that day, up inside the chimney to the roof, his backpack and items from his tail below him. Twed climb out on the chimney and than maneuvered his items out. Untying the backpack from his tail, Twed reached inside the backpack pulled out the coiled silk rope and collapsable grapple.

Twed went to the side of the building and looked across the alleyway to the building on the otherside. Twed spread his wings, jumped, flapped a few times and glided to the roof on the otherside, landing next to the chimney on this building. Twed open the grapple and dropped it into the chimney, he loosen some of the rope and yanked. The grapple attached to the chimney held firm. Twed than moved to the edge facing the alleyway, dropped the coil rope over the edge. The rope fell, uncoiling and hit the ground. Twed spread his wings and dropped off the edge. He reached the ground as the human with the large sword emerged out of a hole into the alleyway, followed by the dwarf and elf.

Twed barked in lizardman tongue to the dwarf, pointing to the rope.

Delusive was breathing heavily, but after opening his eyes he saw the battle was over and everyone was okay. Tapping into this unknown strength always left him feeling weak and nauseous. As the kid leaned the sword against the wall, he felt a sharp pain in his right shoulder.

"Damn, shoulders out again." he complained. He faced the wall and tightened his face. This was going to hurt. And with a quick thrust, Delusive slammed his shoulder into the wall, fitting the bone back in its socket.

"I apologize for the close call, but there wasn't much time for warnings."

Delusive turned his back to his sword once again, and strapped the steel giant to his shoulders.

Durin felt bad for the voice in the last cell. Before he left through the tunnel, he took the keys from the elf and threw them in the cell. If the unnamed prisoner really wanted to get out that badly, he would find a way.

The tunnel did not go as far as Durin would've hoped. When they came out of it, they were a ways from the dungeon but still pretty far from the forest. Suddenly a rope hit the ground before me. The Lizardman appeared before him and told him "up". That Durin understood. He looked up and saw the human thief already on the roof, waiting for him. Durin started to climb but alas he wasn't as young as he once was. He was about to ask for help when he saw what he feared. A group of about ten orks rushing at him teeth bared, brandishing their blood-stained weapons in the air. Durin gritted his teeth and tried to climb higher. It was no use, the orks were getting closer and more were forming up behind them. He dropped down to the ground and awaited the worst when suddenly the lead ork crashed to the ground.

The orks looked around in confusion, their leader dead on the ground. Then the second volley of arrows came. 5 more orks fell to the ground. The orks determined the source of the arrows and ran toward the forest at full speed. That was when the Durin first spotted the elves. They came from the forest shooting arrows at an alarming rate. Orks were dropping left and right. When the Elves ran out of arrows they switched to long dual-bladed knives, weaving in and out of the crowd like dancers. The orks fell upon their new enemy with tooth and nail, cleaving at every shadowing figure around them. And in the midst of all the battle the most amazing thing happened. The sun rose, and it was the most beautiful thing that Durin had ever seen.

Ray watched the dwarf haphazardly toss the keyring into a cell that a plea for help had come from.
Well that isn't very nice..
Ray walked over to the cell as the dwarf began to squeeze into the crawlspace. Reaching in, he got a hold on the keys and took them out. In a few moments he was turning the key in the man's shackles and leading him out of the cell.
"The way out is over here, I suggest you gather your things and hurry up."
Then Ray was off into the hole himself, scurrying through as quickly as possible. He reached the other end about the same time the dwarf was climbing out and came out just behind him.
Looking up, Ray cursed. There was a line of orks at the end of the alley, praparing to charge. As the dwarf began climbing a rope that happened to be hanging neaby, Ray drew his staff.
Then something odd happened. The orks started dropping. It took a moment for Raybur to notice the work of.. his.. 'kindred'. Arrows were falling swiftly and the orks were turning to the new threat. Raybur turned to the dwarf.

Raybur then dashed forward with his staff, slipping into the rear of the ork formation and lashing out with speed and precision. As soon as he saw a clear way out of the melee, Ray made a dash for it. Rather than running toward the mirdain, Ray dashed off to the side and melted into the woods.
Hmm, they should do well from there, and I've earned one purse for the night, plus change, so all is well with the world.
With that, Ray began to head away from the sounds of battle, in the direction of the next village.
Now what I need is a good inn and a large bottle..

Durin saw that the elf was leaving and stopped him. The elves were cleaning up the last of the ork encampnent. He had spoken to the leader, and with a few well placed coins, and been let go without to much delay. He noticed that the others had been in the battle as well. He called them closer.

"I just want to thank you all, I could not have made it without all of you. To show you my gratitude I want you to come to my home. It's just across the river, and I will be able to provide a reward and some tending for your wounds." Durin really wanted to hire them for his next adventure to Arkadia, but it was better to talk of such things over a warm meal, and a cup of mead. He really didn't want to bring the last prisoner who the elf had freed, but he felt ashamed of his previous behaviour and felt it obligatory. Still there was something about him that was... just not right. He saw some of the others give him doubtful looks. He decided to add some icing to the cake.

"I can restock and resupply you, and I would really feel bad if you did not allow me to repay you 5 for what you have done. And of course, there will be a open bar..."

After thinking it over for a minute, Delusive turned to the dwarf "Thanks for the offer, but I have my own path to follow. I need time to think this over. You will see me again, if I've changed my mind."

With that Delusive turned and walked away. Just before rounding the corner, he threw a hand up bidding farewell to the others.

((OOC, if it's ok with everyone I am going to skip the journey there, I'm just gonna go straight to the house.))

Durin looked at each of his house guests. Names had been exchanged and he had invite each one of them for dinner. He had personally made sure that his chefs prepared food from the native land of each of his guests. He wasn't positive but it seemed that whatever Twed was eating was still alive. Not much had happened since the escape, but he felt that now was the time to propose his idea to these adventurers.

"Before I begin, let me formerly introduce my self. I am Durin, the owner and propietor of Durin's Durables, one of the biggest weapon and armour suppliers of the Tri-Kingdom. We manufacture everything from, swords to jewelry, from leather to plate. Surely you've seen the symbol on my merchandise before, the crown hanging from an anvil, "Fit for a king" our motto."

Durin could tell they were not really impressed, and he was almost positive that the Kyron was stealing his silverware made from real silver. So he decided just to come out and say it.

"The reason I have brought you here. Besides the reward, is that a few weeks ago a shipment of mine was ambushed and ransacked. There were some very valuable items in that shipment that were going to a very trusted customer of mine. I do not want to lose this customer. So I will be willing to hire you each for 150 gold pieces a day. Also, for what it is worth, the influence of someone like myself, should you ever get in trouble with the law. (He looked specifically at Kyron). That is my offer gentleman and before you answer allow me to bestow you these gifts of goodwill."

Durin had discovered from many years of business, that nothing sweetened a deal like a free gift.
To Ray, he gave a quiver that continously refilled itself on arrows and a chain mail vest, light as leather, that was totally resistant to fire.

To Kyron he offered a dagger sheath, that would produce another throwing dagger when one before it had been unsheathed. And a pair of shoes that when worn would allow him to jump twice, once off the ground, once in the air.

To Twed, He gave a necklace of translation, more for Durin than for him, and a ring that would turn him completely invisible, but only for 1 to 2 minutes.

The last human had been unexpectantly quiet and Durin felt sure he wasn't neccessary for this trip.
"You have my thanks sir and your share of the gold that I offered, but you just don't seem to be the "adventurer" type to me. My guards will show you to the door.

The young were often rash and undecisive, sometimes they did things they later regretted. Durin had hoped the young one would come back, his strength would be a useful assest in where they were going. As such he had prepared gift, "just in case".

Of course my boy of course, unfortunately enough you have missed out on the gold, but I think I may be able to recompense with something a little better. Durin stared calmly at the boy until he had finished questioning him. He looked at him solemn face. "Let me try and explain, I met your father when he came to me, looking to make the perfect weapon. As great as a warrior your father was, he was a better blacksmith. He "discovered" the layout for a weapon of mass power. Unfortunately it was a nothing more than an old wive's tale. I felt bad for not being able to assist him, and I helped him to craft the sword your wearing. He said it was for his son, I see that your putting it to good use. I heard about the death of him and his family. No one had any idea you were still alive. You look just like him I swear it."
Durin looked outside, the moon was high and it was late.
"Gentleman, I have to apologize but I must retire. You will all be outfitted in the morning. All other questions will have to wait until tommorow when we leave, my guards will show you to your rooms and I wish you a most pleasant goodnight."

Durin slowly got down from the table and made his way to his room. His heart was beating heavily and there was sweat on his brow. When he finally recognized the boy he had been frightened for his life. Fortunately the boy had been oblivious to the truth. Durin had sent the orks to kill his father many years ago, and they had brought the medallion back as proof. The man had wanted to tell others about the weapon he wanted to ruin everything that Durin had worked so hard to do. He could not understand that this weapon was meant for one person and one person alone.

"Well", Durin chuckled to himself, "for one dwarf alone."

Next he examined the armor. Never liked the feel of mail, and what I've got is tried and true. Should fetch a hefty price though.
When he heard Kyron's request for some armor, Ray caught his eye, made a slight flourish with the mail, and glanced at Kyron's gold.
Then their host got up abruptly and left the room.
Odd.. there is something bad about this, but gold is gold, and if this turns out to be a bigger job than he let on, I'll have every right to bail.. or ask for more..

After hearing the answers to his questions, the dwarf parted for his sleeping quarters. Delusive was escorted to a room on the top floor. It was a pleasant room, better than the ground he was use to at least.

The silence in the room was a bit too quite for Delusive's taste, and he was finding it hard to sleep. The young man crawled out of bed and made his way to the window. As quietly as possible he slipped out and up to the roof.

As he lay there, looking at the moon and stars, he thought to himself about his family...but most of all, his father. He had thoughts of his family everyday, visiting them in his mind. This time, however, his father stood out in more detail than ever before. For the first time, he saw the medallion hanging from his father’s neck.

The sight of his father and the medallion woke him from his sleep. "So it was true. The dwarf was telling the truth."

As he closed his eyes to return to his sleep, a tear slid down his face.

Durin woke up to the sound of his beard being sawed off. He wasn't exactly sure of what was happening, but he did know that someone was standing over him with a dagger. That woke him up quickly. He didn't have much time, the house had been enchanted so that nothing could pierce the flesh, no blade, arrow, nothing, but a skilled assassin would not need a blade. He tried to roll from his bed and ended up groggily collapsing on the floor. He fumbled underneath his mattress and grabbed the mace that had been placed underneath for security purposes.

The whole time he was performing these amazingly clumsy movements, he was yelling help at the top of his lungs.

Durin knew he must be a sight, an old slightly overweight dwarf in his night robe, wildly swinging a hammer with his eyes closed. But if he could stall the assassin for just a couple of seconds, the guards outside of his door might get in on time.

Twed nodded his head towards the fat dwarf (OOC: I might as well get in on the action of tearing down Durin) as he received his gifts. The necklace was touch and go, Twed liked how everyone treated him more as a pet than an equal. Once they learned he was as intelligent as they were, their demeanor changed towards him. Twed, not wanting to insult the dwarf, placed the necklace on his neck but would stick to answering questions with one word responses for the night.

The ring on the other hand he would certainly put to use. He liked that it worked on a mental command rather than verbal.

Twed took some time studying each individual, including the help, within the room. He absorbed each word spoken and as the evening wore down and everyone went to their rooms he replayed them over and over again in his mind. He concluded that something didnt sit right with what the dwarf stated to the human with the big sword.

Rather than settle on the rather large bed, Twed placed a few objects on the bed, pulled the covers over them, fluffed them in a few certain spots to make it appear that he was sleeping in the bed.

Twed took some thread and a few bells out of his backpack and set up a few alarms around the room. Twed than flew to the top of a large dresser, streched out and fell asleep. He awoke to a young womans scream (OOC: Smile), listen to some muffled sounds, heard another scream, more like a roar, figured it didnt concern him at the moment and went back to sleep.

The guards piled into the room, and Raybur noticed two go immidiately to the fallen dwarf. He seemed to be breathing still (loud enough to wake anyone sleeping within a mile if not the dead themselves).
Raybur casually strolled around the door, peering into corners, and finally looked up in time to see a vague shadow outlined along the ceiling. There was no movement, but Ray knew how to spot a person attempting to hide.

Rather than send up the alarm, Ray simply looked back down. He walked over to the window. "I saw something leap out this window.. seems the attempted assassin fled. No more I can do here, I'll be in my room if you need to talk.." Ray walked to the door before making a pointed glance up at the ceiling behind the guards' backs and walking out.

Durin woke to the taste of something bitter being poured down his throat. "yuck" he thought to himself as he came to. He had never liked the taste of revival medicine. The captain of his house guard, Gumi was standing over him. "How are you feeling sir?" Gumi said.

Durin smiled to himself, "Just fine, just fine. Is this room secure?"

"Yes sir, earlier the thief was in the rafters. None of the guards saw him but the trackers detected him."

"Very good, what about the Alfar?"

"The window was left open according to your specifications, and he escaped through there. Just as you said."

"Good good. Everything is going according to plan."

Durin had not known that the weird one had been a Alfar, it had even fooled his guards. But the trackers saw all. All around his house were strategically placed statues of different heroes and heroines. Great figures of dwarf and man and elf, mostly dwarf. These statues were magically enhanced to see all that happened in his house. And to Durin and his guards they revealed a great many things. They had know right away that the strange one was an alfar. At first Durin had been frightened, but he decided to use it to his advantage.

If he could get the Alfar to distract the team from what was really happening, then he might be able to carry out his plan unimpeded. So he had let him get away. Alfars were natural troublemakers, if this one followed them, he would do just that.

But the attack had woken him up, the Alfar was just as big as a threat to him as it was his team. In his home Durin was a King, nothing could touch him unless he had allowed it. But the field was a different matter. He needed something to assure his safety.

A smile came to Durin's face. He knew just how he could assure his safety, and get away with the whole thing. He chuckled to himself again. "This will be a very interesting journey."

With that Delusive did something he had never done before. He grabbed the mug of ale the bartender had given him. At first he just took a sip, and was appalled by the test. However, Delusive didn't want to appear childish in front of the mirdain, so he downed it all with the next drink and wiped his face with his sleeve.

Delusive looked up from his mug, gave a smile to both the mirdain and the thief...and even the kobold. This was the first time in a year that he had held a conversation with others.

Twed was also wondering about the location of the fat dwarf, as he listen to the conversation between the two humans.

"...Besides, I have nothing for you to steal!" stated the younger human.

Tweds redish orange eyes brighten on that comment, good instincts on that boy, he thought. He watched as the thief, at first, confronted the implication, but must of thought better of it and quickly switched subjects.

Twed reached down with his claws, grabbed the mug and lifted it up to his jaws. Twed grasped the mug, from his claws, with his open jaws and lifted his head high allowing the liguid to flow quickly from the mug down into his throat. Twed grabbed the mug from between his jaws and placed it gently on the table.

Twed than lift his head once more and let out a loud belch. He than gave the young human one of his winning smiles.

"I'm pretty good with my daggers, at least I think so. Let's just say I've never missed my target. But I must say I have never seen anyone handle daggers like that. You must have practiced with those as much as I have with my sword. Remind me to never get in a knife fight with you!"

Delusive then pulled a dagger from its sheath and tossed it in the air, followed by another. It seemed easy enough so he decided to try a third. Big mistake. Two daggers collided in air. One shot off towards the mug Ray was holding, causing the ale to escape its container. The other, stuck to the bench that Kyron was sitting at.

Watching the daggers flying in each direction, Delusive lost site of third. When he began to look up, the dagger came slicing down his face. The cut ran from an inch above his right eye, to an inch below it...barely missing the eye itself. Blood ran down his face and dripped atop the dagger in the floor.

"Damn it!" Cursed delusive, as he ran to the bar and grabbed a towel. He wiped the blood from his face, and held the towel to the cut hoping to stop the bleeding. "That will be another scar," he remarked. "At least it didn't take my eye."

Delusive slowly removed the towel and looked into the mirror hanging behind the bar. What he saw scared him, and he liked it. The blood had run into his eye, making it solid red. The cut wasn't much to look at, but he didn't really care about his appearance anyway.

"Man, I wish there was someway to keep my eye looking like this. I bet it would scare the piss right out of an ork."

Delusive caught the dagger that Kyron had tossed to him. He returned it to its sheath and looked once more in the mirror. The red was already disappearing from his eye. "Oh well, this new scar will have to do."

Delusive damped the towel with the alcohol that had spilled from Ray's mug, and placed against his wound. The sting didn't bother him, he new it all to well. Scars lined the boy's entire body, the results of training without a teacher.

"I'm starting this adventure on the wrong path I believe. Not even left the comforts of this home and I'm already bleeding." Delusive tossed the towel to the bartender and sat down next to Twed. Something about the lizards smile was comforting, like an old friend reassuring your mistakes. Delusive looked down at the kobolds mug, it was almost dry. "Two more drinks for me and my little friend here. Might as well do something while we wait for Durin."

Ray mumbled under his breath, "Aye, amusing indeed.." and began to eye the nearest pitcher of ale. The bartender quickly slid a whole cup down the table and Ray filled it himself, laying down the mug handle.

"If I ever come to trust the two of you, somebody knock some sense into me.." Ray glanced pointedly at the small creature sitting to his other side before draining his cup. The amused smirk never left his face.

OOC sorry took so long, busy lately.

IC - Durin had always believed in being fashionably late, it made your appearance that much more dramatic when you entered a room. Also Durin thought it might be good for his guests. Durin wasn't a warrior and he wasn't some grand leader, but he was a businessman and he was a damn good one. By letting the travelers get to know each other he had solidified his team, and that is always a good thing.

He got downstairs and saw blood, not what he expected but as a gentleman dwarf, he ignored it.

"I aplogize for my prolonged appearance gents, I hope you have had your fill of food and... (looking specifically at the mirdain) drink. Unfortunately no time for chit-chat, you've wasted to much time already. My guards will lead you to an armory where you will be able to pick out any armor or weapons you choose as long as it is not enchanted. Still have to make a profit you know. We leave in 2 hours, and before you go I would ask you to look over the mission details that my servants will bring to you, stating requirments and the such. Take an extra hard look at the clause that outlines how you will recieve absolutely nothing if something should happen to me on this journey. Also when we leave this house you will all have to unfortunately pass by a mirror, which shows no reflection but will show anything that resides in my house that I have not given to ya." He smiled widely at the crew. He decided not to talk about the incident last night, give these blokes the sense that he was confident. "I have hired a ship, the emerald dream or something, to transport us and all in all it should be a pleasant journey." He turned to go back up the stairs, but remembering something, stopped and turned back to his guests.

"Oh, I almost forgot, we are going to Arcadia (OOC if that is wrong on the spelling I am sorry) land of the necromancers. Remeber now 2 hours"

Durin went back up his stairs to prepare for the journey. Much of the nervousness of last night had left him, the boy sensed nothing. He didn't even know of the special properties of the sword he was holding. He was confident that at this point nothing could go wrong, and with his new secret assest, he was making sure it stayed that way.

OOC: Hello everyone. This occurs last evening

I pray my home was left untouched by the raid that happened at the village. The moons give me enough light to make out my home across the barley fields. Oh Goddess.. I take off my cloak. My heart sinks. Chaos has finally reached home. Burned down... this was not just my home. This place was my church! I can smell the black, charred bodies. Oh by Her grace.. let this not be. Our congregation of fifteen disiples... all gone. Surely, one of them must still be alive.. anyone? I only hear the sound of cicadas. I shed a tear for our departed. It doesn't make any sense. Our village is destroyed yet the village nearest to Morak remains unspoiled. I feel surmise. This must be an internecion... a bidding by the Knights of the White Order. They hire others to evict through chaos and destruction in order to remain virtuous and pure in the eyes of Morgaine, a goddess with true intentions yet discordant for the task. A voliton is thus required... by our true Goddess the Designer... nameless only because our mouths are too vile to utter Her Holy Name. I announce this decree and the stars and moons as my witness, the lone disciple will have his war on their church and followers!! Primarily, where could I find arms and armour? If my memory serves me right, a Dwarven Proprietor of an Arms and Trade lives not afar from here. I silently pray the Song of Creation. Staff in hand, I put on my cloak and walk towards the House of Durin.

OOC - brilliant way to get the ring out, love it. :D
also sorry for not posting for so long real busy up here.:sly:

IC - Durin felt a little bit bad, these guys had saved his life. Perhaps he could afford to be a little more honest with them. They were not friends, but by and by they were good people. Not a dwarf among them though. Durin had not had much time for social niceties in the past. His only concern was the weapon and doing whatever it took to build it. Over time, he had simply secluded himself in his manor.

"but there will be an end to that" Durin thought to himself. The first thing I'll do when I get the weapon will be to reward these fellows with powers and riches beyond there wildest dreams. Then we shall rule this world together.

Durin frowned inwardly, he would have liked to get a healer before they went though. Trouble with religious folk was that they were hard to buy. Nevertheless the group would have to go on without one, he was going to have to make do.

He gathered up his pack and went outside, some of the others were waiting.
"What a great day to start an Adventure" Kyron remarked. Durin was forced to agree.

Two hours later, Ray was waiting outside the front door, fully prepared, staring out at the sky.

At last, Twed thought as he turned toward the sound of the dwarfs' voice. The Dwarfs' physical appearance intrigued Twed, his beard was much shorter this morning than last night. Maybe he hit upon one of the Dwarfs' secrets, maybe, just maybe, the dwarf was a female.

Twed listen as the dwarf rattled on about Armory, the mirror, the ship and the island of Arcadia and finally left the room. Yes, I am confident now that the dwarf is female, only a female can gabble on like that.

Twed promptly jumped down and followed the young human and the guards toward the armory. As the group entered the armory, Tweds eyes lit up. I can definitely use a few things. Twed had a few enchanted items of his own; a small backpack and a quiver with two openings and a scabbard running down its side. Tweds backpack had an enchantment to hold up to twice his weight and about eight times his bulk and still retain its small size and light weight. Tweds quiver could hold ten times a score of arrows and only three arrows would appear to protruding out one of the openings. The second opening had the head of a spear poking out, while the scabbad had a small elaborate hilt extending out.

No enchantments is what the Dwarf stated. Well, items of alchemist nature arent what I call enchantments so I guess those are up for grabs.

Twed skittered past a guard and headed down an aisle. Twed loaded his backpack up with a bunch of sunrods, smokesticks, firetwigs, 2 tanglefoot bags, blastingrocks, and vials of Alchemist fire. He found a bunch of Bandoliers in which he could store the vials, so he grabbed three. He filled one bandolier up with Alchemist fire and than headed down another aisle. Here he found some vials of oil and grabbed enough to fill up another bandolier. He roamed the aisles some more until he found what he wanted; holy water. He quickly ran back to the spot where empty vials were stored, grabbed a bandolier full and went back to fill them up with holy water. He place all three bandoliers within his backpack.

Moving towards the weapon section, he grabbed a small cold iron mace, dozens of cold iron tip arrows, and a few small cold iron daggers. Moving farther down he grabbed weapons of silver and grabbed similar to what he had taken from the cold iron section. He was about to walk out of the silver section when he passed by a small silver mirror; he thought for a second and than decided to take it also. He moved a bit farther and grabbed an admantine dagger, dozen admantine tipped arrows, an admantine halfspear and a admantine hand axe. Done with the weapon section Twed move onto the armor section.

Here he found a replacement for his armor; a chitin breastplate suit, spiked, and, for sleep, he grabbed a small mithril chain shirt. Twed moved farther back in the armory and picked up a small bag of marbles, some chalk, two bags of caltrops, a few empty sacks, collapsible pole, a few vials of antitoxin, a crowbar, and some empty waterskins.

Twed was in the back corner of the armory now, and from what he could hear everyone was ready to leave. Twed scampered back to the front of the armory and followed the group out of the armory.

Twed followed the group to the mirror, and without pause he bounded past it, and casting no reflection he was out the doors. Twed smiled as he realize he was correct in his notion that Alchemist items were not seen as enchanted items.

Wizeguy568
04-21-2006, 06:24 PM
The guards informed Durin about all the items that Twed had taken. Quite an expensive load. That lizardman was a lot smarter then he let on. He would have to keep an eye on him. All durin was bringing was his staff, some simple robes, another ring from his jewelbox since he lost his last one and a magical shield, just in case they ran into unexpected combat. He also had a cache of messenger ravens, just in case he needed to contact someone.

"Blessings upon you my children. The light of the true Goddess shines upon thee. Greetings great men of Agon. Is this the noble Durin I presume? Friend, how long has it been? Ahh yes. Durin, I have business we need to attend but first, please introduce me to your caravan of these mighty men and mirdain I presume."

It was like the god's were answering his prayers. Here he was about to go into arcadia and know he had a priest. The old boy had definitely aged, but then again not as much as a human should. No doubt the blessing of whatever god he worshipped restoring his youth.

"Old top I can't believe it is you. Been a long time. Let me talk to you for a sec..."

Durin quickly related most of what had happened to him recently, the group and why they were leaving. He introduced each person and informed him on how they met. When he felt that the priest was adequately introduced, he popped the question.

"I understand that you have need of my services" Durin said, "and you shall have them. So let me make you an offer you can't refuse. When we go to Arcadia, you come with us. Do this favor for me, and later I will perform another favor for you."

Ray told the others that he would rejoin them soon and sidled off into the woods. There he sat back against a tree and pulled out one of the skins of ale he had convince the bartender he deserved. Frankly, he was somewhat surprised when they didn't show up in the mirror, so maybe since it was technically given to him.. ah well..

One does not simply walk into Arcadia. Its lands are guarded by more than just Arthain. There is evil there that does not sleep, beasts lurking in the crevices and shadows of half-ruined cities. It is a barren wasteland riddled with revulsive experimentations, and the very air you breathe is death. Not with a legion could you do this. It is folly.

Also he had recieved a raven, before they left. His contigency plan was set and ready, just in case anything happened. He was happy that everything was ready and set according to his specifications. Dramatics are necessary my friend. I'm only catching glances in their eyes and from what I've seen, you've stumbled across an interesting find.
Interesting indeed. Even what appears to be a Sadayel with wings amongst the ranks. I sense these men have their own agenda and distrust in the Dwarf. Obviously, these men aren't followers... they've seen battle but I'm not sure if they're ready for what is to come. Nonetheless, what the Dwarf sees in them must count for something. The Dwarf seeks for something that is burning his mind so his trust in them I shall too place in them.

[This post is intended to happen when every member of the party has arrived, but I'm not gonna write anyone specific into this in case you're planning detours before you get there]

Captain Shanks launched himself from the main mast after hearing the hail, swinging from a furling line to land deftly on the sturdy railing of the Queen's boarding side.
He grinned roguishly at the assembled travellers and spread his arms wide.
"Here ya have it, cullies and culprits! The finest vessel fit to float!"
Leaping lightly onto the boarding ramp he landed in front of Durin and shook his hand heartily.
"Bet ye weren't expecting me, eh? Been a long time, new ship, mostly old crew, all trustworthy."

He looked around again at the group and addressed them all in general.
"Ol' Durin here did me a grand piece of work nearly a halfscore of years ago. I pulled him out the water one day, near drowned. Lucky thing too, saved my life from a mutineer who fancied putting a blade atwixt me ribs while I was slumberin'. And he made me this!"
Shanks drew the thin rapier at his side, clearly it was the only weapon on his armourless form. He held it forth between his middle and index finger below the hilt so that the symbol was clearly visible.
It was a modified version of Durin's mark: A tricorn hanging from an anvil.
"Fit for a captain, eh? And rustproof to boot!" He chuckled, giving the dwarf a dig in the ribs as he made his way back to the deck.

He turned and addressed all of them once more.
"See those men?" He indicated his crew with a sweeping wave, "each one of 'em has poured more water out of his boots than the lot of you combined have sailed on. So they give you advice, you better follow it sharpish.
And if any of 'em give you hassel, you just settle it up like proper sailing gen'lemen..."
He looked around at the dumbfounded faces, clearly an explanation of how sailing gentlemen settle their differences was required.

Shaking his head and breaking an exasperated grin he motioned for his crew to load up the last of the supplies and sang out lustily as they worked, his shipmates joining in on the chorus.

The waves at sea can be mighty high,
They sometimes make me sick,
It just so happens that on one such day,
I spilt me guts on first mate Rick.
Now it came about that Rick didn't like,
Being splattered up and down with salted tripe,
In fact it motivated him to engage a fight,
'Cause Rick was a sailing genl'man!

Well their ain't no guard out on the 'igh seas,
No stocks or lords to hang us,
So what do y'do when yer mate ticks ya off?
When a shipmate makes a fuss?
Beat each other 'til things are right-agin,
Like proper sailing gen'lemen!

Well I went to bed with a lump on me 'ed,
I swear the size of a goose egg,
As I headed for my bunk I tripped over a trunk,
It belonged to ol' chef Greg.
Well How was I to know or predict,
That the smashed wine inside was so recently nicked?
I still wound up with my arse being kicked,
'Cause Greg was a sailing genl'man!

Well their ain't no guard out on the 'igh seas,
No court or judge to try us,
So what do y'do when yer mate ticks ya off?
When a shipmate makes a fuss?
Beat each other 'til things are right-agin,
Like proper sailing gen'lemen!

O'course by dinner I was pretty sore,
I couldn't think or see straight,
I had to eat to build back my strength,
And took my share from the nearest plate.
The captain seemed to disaprove,
Indeed eating his meal was a terrible move,
A lengthy flogging and pickling ensued,
'Cause the cap'n was a sailing genl'man!

Well their ain't no guard out on the 'igh seas,
No Watch keeps order amongst us,
So what do y'do when yer mate ticks ya off?
When a shipmate makes a fuss?
Beat each other 'til things are right-agin,
Like proper sailing gen'lemen!

Durin had almost forgotten the exuberance of his old sailing friend. Capt. Shanks was a man, but Durin swore that the sea-hardened sailor had to have some dwarf in him. He boarded his ship and went to some quarters that had been set aside for him and his comrades. He unloaded his equip and made sure that his guards were comfy down in the servants quarters. He instructed all of his guards.

"Do anything that Capt. Shanks asks of ya, he save my life and no greater favor can be done to a dwarf. He knows the high seas like the back of his hand, so trust his judgement and his advice."

At this twoscore and ten crew slowly stopped what they were doing and gathered behind Shanks, looking menacing.

"But here's the deal, Flash. I'll let you aboard if Durin wants ya. You and only you. Then we'll see if we can make a sailor of ye."

Shanks said nothing more but remained firmly in place.

" Certainly, captain." With a single look at his men, they moved off. They would wait till nightfall to steal a ship. "Now then, where may I speak to this Durrin?" he siad with his own casual smirk. A bunch of rag-tag crewmen were no threat at all.
"If he asks what I want, tell him I came to give him extra protection, in return for a ride out of this city."

Shanks mimicked Lucifer's silent commanding, looking at one of his crewmen in a mocking fashion. The sailor chuckled gruffly and shuffled off to update Durin.
Shanks remained in place, completely unmoving, staring down at the newcomer.

"Not long now, Flash. You'll get your chat with the smith."

Kyron looked approvingly at captain Shanks as this refused to take the band of strangers aboard his ship. It was the right thing to do. No reasonable captain would do such a thing.

Twed saw a guard approach and gain the attention of the dwarf. The guard pulled out a sheet of paper and began to read. As the guard read, the dwarf, for a split second turned and look at Twed, before focusing back again on the guard.

Guard must be informing the dwarf on my acquisitions; I wonder how much I will have to return. Once finished the guard left as the dwarf turned and faced Twed. Twed, eyes sparkling, nodded to the dwarf, who, surprisingly nodded back with a slight smile. I guess I get to keep it all.

A murmur from one of the group, Twed couldnt determine who, notified the dwarf of an approaching figure.

Twed watched the figure as he got closer; a priest. Twed will have to be careful around that one, priests seemed to think of Twed, and his race, as an abomination to their Deity.

The priest and Dwarf talked for a few seconds, than the dwarf motioned all to head down the road towards the harbor.

Eventually they reached the ship, climbed abroad and met the captian, who after talking for a second proceeded to sing. Twed an admirerer of music enjoyed the song and hummed along as he studied the crew of the ship and the priest.

Twed manuvered along the mast as the captain dealt with the leader of a gang of men. The gang left and the leader stayed. Twed found a spot near the top of the mast, below what appeared to be some sort of large wooden nest. Twed stretched out and enjoyed the heat from the rising sun.

A crewman came into Durin's chambers. He informed him of what happened above deck. Durin scurried up to the top immediately. He did not like what he saw.

Durin looked at the faces of the others. Some were scared, others angry, some apprehensive. Not one person aboard this ship was happy with what was happening. He looked at the blonde man on shore, his very face screamed danger. Durin did not have time for this, he had come far enough without having to be stopped by some ambitious assassin. He had stared assassins in the face many times in his journey and knew how to recognize one almost instantly.

He whispered to the Capt. "This one is trouble, I will have nothing to do with him on this ship. I'd rather be surrounded by Alfar."

Durin turned and began walking back to his cabin, he had a feeling that a there could be a fight and he was not looking to be hit by some random arrow.

Shanks

Shanks stared wordlessly at Lucifer for another moment before relaying the decision.
"Better luck next time, Flash. Shame, I could have put you to work on one of the cannons."
He nods downwards, indicating the large portholes, from which bulky cannonheads protruded.
"Really... Really big cannons.. y'know?"
With a final sardonic grin he turned and headed for the ship's wheel, two crewmen immediately pulled in the gangplank while another whipped the loop off the security post and others still weighed anchor. Everything was executed with practised ease and record swiftness.

The Queen pulled away and caught a light wind, which struggled to fill the full sails but kept the ship moving remarkably fast for its size.

Shanks motioned to Kyron, who he had taken a distinct liking to since observing him from the corner of his eye while addressing Lucifer.
He indicated the course ahead with a nod.
"Take a look at those bruised clouds yonder. Rain, and plenty of wind, tho it will be on our side. No lighting I don't reckon.
Ever been to sea afore? Ye'll be tucked up right snug in yer bunk while the storm waves rock ye t' sleep real gentlelike."
He chuckled. "But if that don't suit ya then you can wrap up and take a turn on the night duties, get some real sea rain to baptise yer spine!"
This time he let out a barking laugh and lashed the wheel in place so he could turn around and better supervise the initial launch bustle.

Lucifer silently watched as the ship left. "How rude, do they have no manners? I guess I'll have to teach them some." With that he raised his hand toward the sails, and electricity coursed through his arm, before blasting off towards the ships sails. "That will slow them down." Without looking at the ship again, he dashed through the crowd. "Hopefully the men have a ship ready."

The quest was off on a bad start. As the ship set full sail, I prayed for the safe journey of The Emerald Queen and its passengers.

"Ray can I talk to you for a second." Durin had come back on deck, he had no doubt in his mind that the assassin was following them, but he trusted Shanks sailing ability. And if they did catch up, he had a plan for them. But right know his focus was on the mirdain. He had sent some gulls out, (couldn't use ravens anymore, too far away from land) and had asked around a bit about his crew. Some of the info that came back was interesting.

Ray turned to look at the dwarf.
"Aparrently," Durin said, "there was an assassination of sorts back on land. Took place right before those orks, imprisoned me. Supposedly the reason that they were so bold in attacking the village. Wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?"

OOC:better clear a few things up.
The character i'm going for is Ray before joining the Brotherhood, he's been hired for everything from assasinations to bodyguarding by now, but he isn't particularly infamous as an assasin, just a general sellsword, and has never to anyone's knowledge gone back on his word.
Shadow is playing another character, i'm guessing this character isn't a member of the Brotherhood and as far as i know has no connection to Ray.
Also like to mention that mesenger birds are a one-way thing trained to fly to a specific location, wherever the bird was raised, you could send a message from a ship to the bird's home, but theres no way a bird would be able to learn to fly to a ship at sea.. perhaps use some magical communication if you need it.

IC:
Ray raised an eyebrow as the dwarf, albeit not directly, accused him of being a traitor.
"Sir, I've agreed to go on this mission for you, I've agreed to protect you along the way to the best of my ability. I'm a man of my word and as long as you haven't given me false information about this mission, I will perform my duty." Raybur stared very pointedly at the dwarf, curious whether he would spill the proverbial beans..

Overhearing Durin's query with Ray, I gave Durin the eye of suspicion.

Shanks placed his fists on his hips as he watched his crew efficiently keeping the ship in order, many retreating to bunks or lazing on the deck, having completed their duties.
"Nightwatch it is then."
He replied cheerily to Kyron, seemingly unconcerned with the other topic of discussion.
"Something tells me you've got a good nighteye." He winked broadly and gazed fondly at his crew again.
There were a collection of physiques scattered about. A good number were large and burly, others were sly and lithe looking. All had corded muscle from forearm to shoulder from constant work.

"Freebooters." He said casually out of the blue.
"I prefer that title. Pirate doesn't seem to ring true. We plunder and do as we please, but we're not murderers, we just like our freedom and fun.
And if we happen to passively aggrivate a naval fleet or a bunch of pirates decide they want our loot... well who are we not to defend ourselves?
Aye... Freebooters." He mused.

"The nightshift definitely has its perks." He said suddenly, as if he had never trailed off topic.
"I'll introduce you to the cook's famous It's Raining and Bloody Horrible soup. Puts a fire in ye after the rain has chilled yer bones... Speaking of which..." Shanks sniffed the air appreciatively, "smells like Skilly and Duff is on.
We usually eat out under the sky, but I reckon Durin will want the figureheads of this little venture at a private dinner... That's you and me, mate. Ah well... There's nearly two weeks ahead of us to make up for it."

((OOC: That does make sense, so I take it back. I just remebered reading something about a assassination in your earlier posts, thought I'd ask. Your right about the birds though.))

Durin laughed as the mirdain took an obvious offense to his statement. That was the problem with elves, too proud.
"Excuse me Raybur, I was simply curious. Your people did show up with at quite the convenient time, maybe I read too much into it. Let me apologize by offering you something." He saw the curiousity in the mirdain's eye.
"Well as a dwarf I recognize a fellow drinker when I see one. Perhaps you'd like to join me for a nightcap later this evening."

Durin didn't wait for him to answer. He retired to his cabin and made sure everything was in order. He was going to find out what the deal was with this elf. The human warrior saw him as a link to his father, the thief well Durin knew that most thiefs could be bought off. The lizard was merely an animal to the others and not capable of disturbing any true plans of his. This elf was an unknown factor though, one Durin was not interested in having.

He prepared some logger for himself and the elf. He took the time to add a little truth potion in there to coax the elf into a little chit-chat. By the time it started affecting him, he would think it was the alcohol.

Suddenly Durin heard shouting outside of his cabin. The ship lurched a little bit. Then he heard more yelling and something that sounded suspiciously like "sea monster".

The ship lurched wildly to left and Durin spilled all of the logger, along with the one with the truth potion in it, all over the table.

Ray frowned when the dwarf backed down from the confrontation, but took on a curious expression when the dwarf mentioned a drink between the two of them.
Maybe I can slip him something to loosen him up..
Ray called out as the dwarf walked away, "And those weren't my people, I'm my own man."

The dwarf disappeared belowdecks and Ray turned away to stare out at the sea. A few moments later he was hanging from the rigging someplace he hadn't seen any crew members bumbling around. Comfortably tangled Ray dozed off until a sudden lurch of the ship brought him around.
One of the crew members shouted something about mo
