now that NA servers are here we don't have to deal with 120-300 pings, at least most of us won't...

A question for people who went from 200ish (or more) ping to 50ish - i.e. West Coast players. Do you notice an insane difference in playability? In particular, how does it affect archery?

While im not one of the people your asking i can tell you that it doesnt.

I switched ISP while i was still playing DF, because my old ISP was crap.
I went from 150-200 down to 30-40ping, and there was a small difference in PvP but it wasnt anything major to be honest.

Maybe someone will disagree, but thats how i saw it. I hit just as much with archery etc.

melee is the only thing ping really affects, maybe mounted combat.. More specifically chasing someone.. with < 50 ping you can still hit people you are chasing from pretty decent distance away.. with >150 ping you have to be RIGHT ON TOP of them which sucks.

Please stop posting this garbage, have you ever played a FPS? I went from 250-350 down to 30-40, and there is a noticeble difference in archery. You do not have to lead your target nearly as much.

Not having to deal with LPBs is worth the price of admission.

There's certainly a difference whether in Archery, Magic or Melee, hit boxes are closer to where I'd expect them to be at any given time helping me considerably with archery as well as melee. I feel like I can actually utilize the range of a weapon instead of practically having to touch a character to hit them in a chase on EU. Just my experience though.

I went from 200-250 to 40-50 ping on NA 1. I actually found it harder to hit on NA at first. Then I realized my mind had adjusted to the lag lead needed on a moving target and was aiming accordingly.

Now that I have that sorted, its great when I shoot or aim at something I actually get the hit everytime. Both archery and melee.

it's a world of difference. i had 180-210 before, and now i'm at 30-40.

spells release when they should, and hit what they should. when mobs move, people are more where they're supposed to be, less rubberbanding and viewed speed-increase caused by location correction (people running in circles aren't looking like they're running faster than possible (circle's radius is viewed smaller on NA as opposed to EU when running same actual size circle on both)).

there's time to parry a polearm, swing a 1hsword, then parrry again... no 1/4 second delays between actions.

when mobs twitch at the last second, it's possible to twitch-correct your aim and hit them still, even quicker ones.

you actually hit people when you connect with them with mount attacks, you don't have to aim in front of them

switching weapons/spells, managing inventory, accessing bank, dealing with merchants... everything is more responsive.

Majorleague

i'm having internet problems at the moment but even with that i'm getting 30 - 45 while in combat. if i'm just standing around watching the grass/weeds? grow i get 22.

there is a HUGE difference in the ability to block shots from mobs.
example: when i was fighting a mob i would normally swing twice then mob would hit me. i would try to block his attack but since the there was lag the attack would go through my parry. Now i can get my 2 swings in and maybe get a third in depending what i'm using and then block when i see the mobs weapon getting ready to connect. as for archery... haha... i'm not used to it without the huge lag. i can actually hit my target much easier now.

summary:
:( <--- me on EU
:D <--- me on NA

Edit: even though i'm in California i still belive the server should be in Texas. would be fair for everyone really
