Very true, I doubt many will put forth the effort they once did upon the launch of EU1 because they now know of the obsessive and disgusting grind to get a city up. Plus, keep in mind the resource nodes don't give you what they used to (Oh man, 100% nodes after a server down with the servers going down every few hours.. priceless)

AND all of the nodes are now global, meaning there is less total to be gathered around the world at all times compared to EU1 Launch. Expect to see a very poor US economy not only in real life but in Darkfall. :(

There really is not much of a rush. people who are just getting in the game have probally know what happened at EU1 launch and figured if they are not strong enough to defend yet than there is no point. and looking for a there dream place maybe.

It will take longer to take a city this time around because the gold dupe trick is gone, universal nodes are in, and most of the exploits have been fixed

Impossible unless they have 30 people and all they did was farm goblins since launch, or cheated.

I farmed gold by killing mobs legit (even through the invisible desynch lag) for a clan and a city on day 1 without a problem at all. You just need to try harder.

Please, build everything up to max!

Knowing sinister and bones preparation there is a reason to take LM first.
Personally i think its a Wonderfull smart play by the clan.
They dont care about the ressources and the long term placement.
They dont care to keep the city.
What they did was taking a city thats EASY to reach for 3 starting races(human, dorf and orc) and moderate for alfars.
This is a good start out point to reach mobs in all the lands about.
And a good place to work or your macros, cause its reachable for all after a night out farming.

also some1 is prolly skilling to make Siege hammers as village income in the beginning is very good

Hm. Interesting.

The best kept secret on EU-1 was how defensible LM is. We've played it up as being indefensible, but we've never let on how many raids got broke off there. The cannon placement is good, and the approach to the keep ends up being narrowed down to one very unfortunate path that gets the shit aoe'd out of it, from defenders with a completely concealed vantage point (very small windows, and a launch-only rooftop)

add to that, if you are knocked off or fall off the ramp you hit the ground with 1 hp, and are out of the fight for a long time. assuming you aren't immediately killed. (skilled defenders know to ready a mana missile while you are falling)

If you -do- chase/knock someone off the wall, or want to send defenders down to the bottom to kill people who fall, have them jump on mounts and jump off on the mount. the mount will be almost dead but they'll be full hp.

a couple of people with arcane throwing bubbles on the rocks on either side of the upper ramp wall and you can hold people back indefinitely.

I wager they won't build the lower city at all, and just use the upper city as a bindstone-kick fortress.

You get a keep (t3 = ~60ppl) plus two houses.

Can't build the towers until you put up the t3 church though.

look :

http://www.city-of-freehold.com/_/rsrc/1244575473646/map/city-map/longmarch_map.jpg

I'd recommend building the three right hand lower walls to the gate, and two left hand walls, and the 'D' (the D-shaped defensive area at the top of the ramp "H")... this will channel attackers into predictable places.

It's called the D because it's D for Defense, and will be where most of your heavy fighting turns back attackers if you do it right.

The primary defensive positions are D E and F.

D and F are where you put your guys with sword/shield + knockback and F is where your elemental/archers are. That's also where people can jump from the outer rock onto the wall of the "D".

The northernmost cannons are actually pretty useful in the confusion and dismay they cause the enemy, but require a dedicated spotter (and a lot of practice)

I personally found the rubble much easier to defend in than the walls when they went up in the lower city.

Also that door in the D can be operated from inside the gatehouse, and has been the utter fucking death of so many people. You open the gate, let a few in, close it and then kill them inside. There's no way out even on mounts except the inner passage. which you can block with mounts or men.

EDIT:

Also, banagar - the hamlet to the west, has earth elemental spawns right next to it (++cash/quartz/enchanting skins) and one of the best mining runs in the game (southwest orc lands). It also has a smithy, but no smelter (why, god why)

Between longmarch, brockmoore and banagar you have 2 groves and 2 quarries which is a nice amount of sulfur and resin.

You have to hold brockmoore and banagar with subclans however so that you can bindkick yourself from LM to your other holdings.

It so happens that MM has the right velocity and splash radius for chasing someone falling. Why would you not use all the tools you have?

It's also something you practice with mana missile, because it's a tool you will always have.

Your intended slight noticed, but it just smacks of ignorance, ultimately. I'd like to add 'as usual' but you're usually better than this.
