It's a common and calculated response by minority communities now and pretty much everyone except the news organizations that are just looking for ratings know it. Well, they probably know it as well, but care more about ratings than anything else, so make a big deal about it.

It's like a little kid throwing a tantrum when he or she can't get their own way after learning that dad will give in just to get the kid to stop crying.

So, if a African American organization of some sort doesn't like some rule or policy, they call the white guy racist knowing that all the uproar will cause the white guy to give in and apologize instead of telling them to go f' off and follow the rules like everyone else.
