A lot of people do think so, do you?
Population growth, economic woes, global terrorism, environmental damage... These are things you hear about daily so it'd seem things are pretty bad.

But I'd like you to stop entertaining romanticized ideas of the apocalypse for a moment and consider the factual data we have.
Here are some videos that might make you change your mind about the coming doom:

Watching a 15-20min video might be too much asked when you need all that precious time to be bored and self destructive, but if you really are so worried about the end of the world you should really consider watching these videos.

End of the world ain't coming until 2012. Enough time for another boom-bust cycle.

I hate cliches. That means I really hate said quote. I know you're sarcastic. But you´re making me spastic.

Beware the coming retard apocalypse.

Don't try and deny it. You're all going to be infected by the ID10+ virus, and go around petting people to death with your uber retard strength.

First video was fucking awesome. Second video I had a little bit of disagreement. The third video he simply mischaracterized the data. Not that third video was wrong it was just bothersome to listen to him when he clearly was fucking up the data.

Malthus was, is, and will continue to be wrong about his population-economic growth constraint theories. However, I do believe a potential rogue element acquiring a WMD is plausible though.

I hate Ray Kurzweil. The guy is nuts. He seems to want to unmake everything good about being human. Am the only one that doesn't want to be a robot, or download my brain to a computer chip? Fuck all that kind of shit, I say. Using nanomachines to extend and improve the quality of life is fine and great, but I think he wants to take it all way too far. And I think his predictions are exaggerated by decades if not centuries, or even thousands of years in some cases.

The world will most likely be destroyed in around 4 - 5 billion years when the sun goes supernova.... So make sure you pick up some decent sun-block

It will be destroyed by a death ray long before then.

It will happen. Human nature is definitely amazing, but also deeply flawed. Why not get rid of all the junk if we are able to?

He might be exaggerating by decades, maybe centuries, but surely not thousands of years. In a few millennia we'll be soaring throughout the universe in our ectoplasm bodies while alien primitive civilizations worship us as gods.

I know it. A talking mushroom showed me.

Exactly why we no one should have this kind of power over our lives.

Why not get rid of all the junk if we are able to?

1. I don't think anyone is qualified to say what is junk and what isn't. The complete removal of all pain for example, could be a very bad thing.

2. There's no reason the flawed parts of human nature will go away with this kind of technology. It could be used to create a totalitarian cyber-hell, where a lucky few torture everyone else for their amusement, for eternity. Ray's "Singularity" doesn't sound so great in that light...

If there's going to be a Singularity, all types of people will be in it including the worst.

He might be exaggerating by decades, maybe centuries, but surely not thousands of years. In a few millennia we'll be soaring throughout the universe in our ectoplasm bodies while alien primitive civilizations worship us as gods.

Well I for one will be happy to die long before the inevitable abuse of this technology occurs and everyone is helpless to stop it.

I think pretty much the opposite way. I hope I could live to see some of that stuff.
