WINNIPEG -- Is it a severe case of provincewide brain freeze, or is this simply Slurpeetoba?

For a 10th consecutive year, Manitoba has been named by the 7-Eleven convenience stores as the world's leading market for consumption of their Slurpee drinks.

The decade at the top of the international slush pile has led to the Slurpee Cup and a plaque -- commemorating what 7-Eleven, Inc.'s Vancouver-based spokeswoman Sheila Calder describes as "Slurpeetoba" -- to be awarded this morning to Mayor Sam Katz, based on Winnipeg's lion's share of the chain's outlets in this province.

With the highest average number of Slurpees sold per store, Manitoba has taken top spot over runners-up Calgary and southwest Detroit.

"Manitoba's sales of Slurpees were 20% higher than Calgary," Calder said yesterday.

"A lot of the stores in Winnipeg have brides and grooms that go in on their wedding days and get photos done with Slurpees. It's that ingrained in the culture there," she noted. "And apparently, the Slurpee is the No. 1 beverage served to women in Winnipeg maternity wards."

Making his daily run to 7-Eleven with his 1.5-litre Slurpee cup, web designer Curtis Kopeschny -- complete with "Slurpee" on the personalized licence plate on his new Honda Fit -- yesterday showed Winnipeg's enthusiasm for the slush beverages.

"I have one of these big ones a day, and sometimes two," Kopeschny, a 31-year-old self-described "Slurpaholic," said while holding his massive mug.

'Addicted'

"I'm addicted. I can't go more than a day without a Slurpee -- seriously. They're just nice and cool and refreshing."

At the same St. Vital store, Janelle Verville filled up a similar mug to take to the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

"I was going to buy two," she said, "but I couldn't find my other cup."

The Slurpee Cup will also be presented at tonight's Winnipeg Blue Bombers game, Calder said.

Tomorrow, 7-Eleven will mark its 40th anniversary in Canada by handing out 1,000 free Slurpees at each of its 461 stores across the country.

Ten years of dominance! Yeah baby!

Thats funny. Cause Ontario's economy ain't doing so hot, (neither is Alberta) yet Manitoba's economy is doing fine. Actually Manitoba's economy pretty much always does fine, no big highs, or big lows, just steady growth.

Now shut up and go get your free slurpee.

And that's why we have historically and recently propped up your province?

Hello Equalization Payment! You people(everybody except BC, Alberta, Northwest Territories) are our Wallonia.

And the problem is also government contracts go far more to Ontario and Quebec than other provinces, even though other provinces have better bids. This happened a few times with Wpg companies, the bids went to Ontario and Quebec companies that needed government money to retool while the Wpg companies were ready to go from day one.

I'd call that the government propping up Ontario and Quebec at the expence of other provinces.

Although we're a nation of pussies, at least we can still kick your ass as well as the rest of Canada minus Quebec any day. Even if we do lose, America likes us better so they'll help our side.

1) You must not know Canadian military history if you think we're a nation of pussies.
2) I'd say that the majority of Americans like BC more than Ontario. (even if its only for the pot)
3) Did you go get your free slurpee?
4) And of course you could kick my ass. I'm a cripple. So no duh!

No, where the most culturally American so they'd side with us.

Canada's military has historically been better then America's per capita but we are still known to be pussies all around the world, so we'll still fit into that stereotype kkthnxbye.

Interesting. It seems that Canada provinces hate each other with blind competition. Here in the states, we don't hate each other, we just hate everyone else...and everyone else hates us. It works out.

Bullshit. The whole North vs South thing, the amount of 'redneck' comments, etc... Americans do exactly the same shit as Canadians do.

And we don't hate each other. Its called 'fucking around'.

So you admit to being arrogant, stupid, think you're better than everybody else and drink Coors? Fucking bastard. What kind of Canadian are you? Jesus Christ man! Show some pride! Stop drinking Coors.

From American soldiers I have worked with, who have been in the field with Canadian troops, most hold them in high regard. In every fight we've been in we kick ass. Our military is poorly outfitted, and that may be where you see the critizism, but our soldiers have not been thought pussies. I don't know why you, a Canadian, would think we are a nation of pussies.

Must be all that Coors you drink. :D

Correction, arrogant pricks who believe in the American way of life unlike you commie Ruskies.

The American army has become much shittier with much lower standards since the beginning of the Iraq war, so I would say on a per capita basis we can kick the shit out of the U.S. However, I'm speaking from an American perspective when I say Canada is a nation of pussies.

Kenora is a 15,000 population shithole. The ONLY reason its there is Lake of the Woods and boat season. WTF do you do the rest of the year? Dare someone to stick their tongue to the light post?

*edit* Earls. I haven't been in too many years to remember too much about it. I remember not hating it, but I don't remember girls wearing tight uniforms.
