Actually it's not. One is based on realism and the other is based on fantasy. Some units are actually fortunate enough to use paintball modified M4's and M16A2's. Most of the rest have to use the MILES shit which is annoying, and you have to use blanks which dirty up a rifle quicker and worse than live rounds. I got to try the paintball M4's once in training and they're fun, especially with the paintball claymores added to the mix.
Consider your point smashed.

AirSoft is for 12 y/o boys who can't take a hit.
Paintball is for 40 y/o men who wish they had joined the army.

Airsoft actually hurts worse because the impact area is smaller with the same or greater velocity of paintball.
A lot of the people who partake in both are current or former military. Your age assumption is also Samsonite, way off.

Unless you're using a sniper rifle it doesn't hurt.
Nobody does Airsoft except for kids.
Meh, they're a small percentage. A lot of people I see playing Paintball (there's an arena, field, board, w/e it's called by my house) are usually old dudes or people who've never been in the military. I know one guy who was in Grenada and won't play Paintball because it reminds him of what he went through. I know another dude who won't even play FPS games any more. He was my friend off of Live for a while and he eventually had to quit playing CoD and Halo, as well as other games because they reminded him of combat. Not really the graphics, but the sounds and the way the games themselves worked. Even with a controller in his hands he said it was too much like what he really went through and didn't want to experience it again.
My point here is that the majority of people who play paintball, from my experience, have never been in the military. I'm sure there are a lot who have, but I don't think they make up the large majority of the paintballing/airsoft audience. Nobody plays Airsoft, which is why I didn't even mention that, but I think my point still stands.

Oh, and laser tag.
I know a place where they let you play for like an hour. Both teams have two forts on either side, with a bridge spanning the gap and besides that, there's a no-man's land between them that they made look like a battlefield with foxholes and mortar craters and whatnot.
It's pretty epic.

It isn't against the rules. In fact, it is encouraged because it helps us weed out the total insecure douche-bags who know that they will never say anything witty enough to get a thread /threaded so they have to do it themselves.

Never been shot by an airsoft gun, but size of impact site and speed are not the only two factors. F = ma. How similar are the weights of each round?

It's like getting hit by drops of rain without the water.
Those big ones though, like when you hold your hand out of a car window while it's raining and you're going like 20 MPH.
It doesn't hurt at all, anybody who says they actually got hurt playing AirSoft and wasn't hit by a Sniper is lying.
Those things actually hurt though, the snipers. Point-blank at the temple they have the potential to kill, but they really don't hurt that much from far off either.

Paintball FTW!
Its pretty fun here in the Desert, with the Washes(Ditches) and plenty of cover, last time i played i remember charging up and over Wash into another one while under heavy fire, then scaling that on and getting into the main Wash, about 20 feet across, then shooting another guy while he was in the air in head
Epic

I don't know what dinky Wal-Mart pieces of shit you were trying, but the ones I'm referring to fire at 360 FPS and more. They break skin, and they put clean holes through one of my buddy's eyeglasses.

Fair point, one that slipped my consideration. I got shot by paintball in training but that was a few years ago, and it was on BDUs.
After reading a couple comparison threads, I guess it's safe to say paintball does hurt a bit more - but it's also seen as two different kinds of pains, which makes sense. One dude said paintball is like a punch, whereas airsoft is like a sting. Both can break skin, but paintball leaves some nasty bruises. On that note, though, anyone who says airsoft feels like holding your hand out of a car when it's raining has only fucked around with those little transparent pieces of shit for 20 bucks.

Simulated one bullet your out rules are just as realistic as simulated one hit with an arrow and you're out rule.
It's the same exact thing. Pretending to use weapons that would normally kill you, except I'd say there's MORE physical ability involved in a Dagorhir match.

Airsoft FTW
Airsoft has Over 9000 times more realism, I also prefer holding a gun instead of an upside down hairdryer.
"But you can't tell if someone has been shot" you say
Airsoft requires people who are true and honest if they are hit. Because of this you get a lot less douches playing the game, if people lie all the time it gets frustrating/boring.

When it gets boring people stop playing and the game is over. People want to have fun, they relise if everybody cheats then the game becomes crap.
Hence less faggotry

Lol, I want to see Signus playing Dagorhir.
You vs. Brannoc would be a great fight. It would please me to see those foam weapons fly.
They have those do they not?
Yes, but from what I have heard it's not a good idea to use them in any decent airsoft weapon because they are too fragile and can easily burst in the chamber/barrel.
On the main topic, I have only played paintball once, but I do play quite a bit airsoft and I think the latter is better, assuming you are playing with thrustworthy people that is. I think the community (at least around here) is better, the guns have things like buttstocks, normal triggers, sights, and I think they are more accurate.
