View Full Version : Gaming: So I was playing WoW...

I know, the title is a fail, but anyway, back to the topic:
I was playing WoW (get over it), when I logged onto my character to find myself unable to speak in Guild chat.
"Wtf?" I thought to myself as I observed the situation.
I made sure it wasn't a typing error, that I'd typed "/g" correctly, and once I found it wasn't me, I asked a guildmate who happened to be standing by what happened.
"We voted to mute you because you and another guild member were talking in guild chat"
First of all, what the hell? It's guild CHAT, and I'm not supposed to talk in it? Second of all, they shouldn't have been pussies and muted me without telling me, especially since last time I logged in I was able to speak in Guild chat. If it was that bad of a situation they should have booted me, not been children about it and gave me the rank of "In the Corner".
So, the topic of this thread is Guild Politics. This doesn't necessarily have to do with WoW, but discuss/share your own views/experiences in guild politics, like in WoW and other games, and tell me what you think of them in general.
Honestly I think it's a way for over-controlling people to exert their power over others and try to start shit, but that's just me. In some games it's good, but in some games where guilds in general really aren't needed, you can develop situations like the above.
Go!

Age restrictions for becoming an officer. I get the reasoning behind that, I really do. Young people aren't supposed to be mature enough to handle it. But, two years ago, I was denied officer rank in my guild in Vanguard, despite being one of the earliest members, because I was only 16. They were expecting me to pitch a fit and leave the guild, but I didn't. I just kinda accepted it.
It still rankled but, eh, what can you do in the face of a bunch of 40 year olds playing video games?

Basically.
I /gquited and left. I'm not a fucking dinosaur so one of the guild members was treating me like a doormat, all the more reason for me to quit.

I know, sometimes I think people just skip entire years of their lives or their memory blanks out and they have no idea how they themselves were at that age. I can see not giving Officer to a 10-12 year old kid, as this happened to me when I first started playing WoW and I thought it was unfair in a way, but when it's the grown men and women that start abusing power you know you're probably in the wrong guild.

You should play Dwarf Fortress

No, they're probably like ninety years old by now, we don't want to disturb old ladies.
We were supposed to run Naxx tonight too, and I need some new gear, which is just what really bites about this. It takes a few weeks to get peoples' trust, and then they'll take you raiding and whatnot, and I was almost at that point and instead some jackass that thinks he's a god mutes me.
And I'm not about to kiss ass for gear either.
I once brought unwanted attention to my clan on Forumfall, so I was kicked out in game
But that was understandable.
Honorius, how many signatures do you have?

Lol no, we were doing the Fire Festival thing and we were arguing about who would get the title fastest.
He's a Human, I'm a Gnome, and racial slurs were involved. WoW-related racial slurs, it wasn't like we were having a Klan rally or anything.
So some jackass Paladin who can't take the three seconds to turn off guild chat goes and whines to one of the Officers (who hates me for some reason, probably because I don't take his crap), and thus he has a reason to mute me.
I was pretty well-liked in my guild as well, so the voting pool must have been pretty small to get me muted.

sounds like an uptight guild. I mean if one of the 'leaders' was online and didn't like what was being said, a warning would have been suitable...
"hey bro, some people are bitching about what's being said in g-chat. /t (or whatever the command) each other."

The leader is actually a pretty cool guy, I don't think he was in on this. I think this was done without his consent.
Nobody was on except me, the guy I was talking to, and the Paladin who told the Officer who hates me.

Either way I'm not playing WoW again.
I've been playing it for the past few months to pass some time, and the grind is too long to have the endgame be getting into a guild full of dicks like the one I was in.

Don't worry, you'll be drawn back with the next expansion.

I played WOW on a private server with like 150X XP, and I still couldn't enjoy the game. It's a very shallow game...both in terms of PVE and PVP. It works and It's polished, but it sucks and It's boring and pointless.

WoW's greatness is skin deep.
That basically means shiny swords and massive sets of armor.
I've known that all along, but the fact that the part of WoW that I thought I could really depend on, the community, has failed as well. I know there are a lot of stupid people who play WoW, but I had friends there.
