Opera was a pioneer at one point and I will definitely check whatever this is out when they release it (however, hopes are not high) but what you say is just not true. Firefox is currently (or at least was recently) the better browser.

You have been asleep at the switch. Firefox surpassed Opera in features and speed at least two years ago.

Chrome loads pages slower than firefox.
So firefox > chrome
I tried opera once... couldn't get into it. Firefox felt great the first time I used it. IDK why.

Opera might be the best web browser, no one can trump it!
I wonder if my computer can "handel" Opera!

I'm trying Opera. It takes hours to get the UI looking decent and a lot of webpages, like Youtube don't load correctly. It's good as a supplement for the cool features, but I'd be:bang: if I had to cope with only Opera, especially cold turkey from a different browser. I think Opera is mostly trying to reach the mobile market with it's Opera mini and that's why they added f ex Opera turbo to reduce bandwidth use on webpages.

I like Opera, it's like a condom for internet porn.
I have a feeling "reinventing the web" is going to amount to some new widget. A browser can't reinvent the web because it only displays what it is given from other computers.

Firefox > The world.
Pretty sure this is for the release of Opera 10; beta version available here (http://www.opera.com/browser/next/).
I admit, Opera is sexy as fuck, and even though I mainly use Firefox, I would like to switch (back) to opera at some point (currently too much of a hassle because I'm so comfy with my FF install). But it's definitely faster, sleeker, and has all the features you could need.

Getting rid of the huge waste of space at the top of the screen.
I only have the title bar, the one to close the program, there and I even raped my windows appearance settings to make it as small as possible. I got the tabs and panel on the right side, removed the x from tabs, I dragged the wand the field you enter addresses onto the status bar, fiddled with a bunch of settings, learned a bunch of shortcuts like mouse gestures, changed the panels. I enabled the hotkey for hiding the menu bar as well and hid it and turned off the adress bar since I don't need it. Then I set the speeddial search engine to Google.

Until Opera has an equivalent to the FireFox addons AdBlock+ AND NoScript (preferably with less drama (http://adblockplus.org/blog/attention-noscript-users), in the case of the latter. :P ) I wouldn't want to consider using it as my primary browser.
Granted I haven't looked into it since the time of the post I linked, but at that time, while Opera (I believe) had something akin to the adblocker, it had nothing like NoScript at all.
Instead of AdBlock+, there is
http://www.adsweep.org/
http://www.adblocklist.com/
http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/
http://www.privoxy.org/
Instead of NoScript,
tools > preferences > advanced > content > uncheck "enable Java Script"
this will disable JS globaly
then for every site that you want to run JS
right-click somewhere > Edit site preferences > Scripting > check "enable Java script"
or
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=241208
Admittedly, they're not quite as good as the firefox equivalents IMO.
