Aside from the Yew Militia, are there any RP guilds still around? Or more specifically, any that aren't based out of a newbie city? Won't name names, but most seem pretty defeated, either waiting for NA1 or just quitting altogether.

The Holy Church of Auros. (Which currently consists of me...) is operating out of Long March now. I have no plans to switch to NA1.

I think we're down to Shipwreck pirates, Order of the Blade and Yew Militia.

That does any in chat roleplaying anyway.

"Theme" Rp alone exists in more stature, but that's not really roleplaying to the extent of a "Roleplaying Guild", such as the viking Aesir folks or Virakar, ect...

definitely a blame on AV tho and lack of chat bubbles, sittin' or anything social programmed in other than cut/dry combat stuff.

I think this game is the best platform for RP yet, people just gotta start respecting "Parley".
Also, I can of course understand difficulty to roleplay in an enviroment that asks their questions with a blade or the tip of an arrow.

All MMOs are RP unfriendly : it's always a personnal effort you have to do. Roleplaying with a chat system just isn't easy.

I'm with The Shipwrecked Pirates. We strive to be RP in Clan Alliance chat and Public chat. http://www.thesaltymaid.com/

No, the game is terrible for role playing.

No, the game is terrible for role playing.
Actually, it's both. The community isnt more well-suited than the engine.^^

As someone said before. There's hardly any roleplay clans but there is theme clans. Cerberus, for example, is Orc/Mahirim only. We don't do any in-chat roleplay but we stick to the theme.

Not only the "silentness" of the game and the murderhungry roving PvP crowdsmare what is killing Roleplaying, but also the widespreadedness of ARAC clans, that takes a crap on the Lore of the world of Agon.

Sylage is a Roleplay oriented clan. We are currently on Yssam and are only recruiting Mirdains / Humans / Dwarves.

According to your forum you are mainly french speaking. I havent found a single EU-based rp-pvp guild so I think Im just gonna join the non-rp ARACs.

Aye, The Court of Evermore encourages roleplaying, but does not necessarily demand it heavily.

UO had lots of rp i.e in europa server. It even had a roleplayers union of guilds with like 1000 members doing all sorts of rp events.

Thats was 1999 though. Last year I played both AoC and WoW on RP servers and didnt see anything related to RP one single time..

For me RP isnt the reason for mmo gaming but more like a side-feature "a cream on the top" so to say that makes them more interesting and lively. RP adds extra content to othervice dry&cut mmos. To be honest theres only so much freedom in any mmo and little bit of imagination (Thats what traditional pen&paper is all about) can make all the difference.

Honestly, how can people RP in this game? The game mechanics themselves don't even support roleplaying (Which is sad in itself).

Overhead text or chat bubbles would be needed minimum. Perhaps som interaction with objects like ability to sit in chairs and other fluff.

That's not even the biggest problem. The biggest problem is there is no local chat whatsoever. I don't want people 50-100 meters away hearing what we can say. This game is as unimmersive as can be. There's a reason why most roleplayers are looking at MO, not Darkfall.

i dont understand how RP's can think that having a chat bubble is more immersive...

IMO, have a chat box is much more immerssive than chat bubbles.

The chat box is a part of the HUD, which can be seperated from the game itself in a sense, where as bubbles are within the game itself. thats my opinion anyway

The chat bubbles replace the audible sounds that'd be heard from a person talking. Because they pop up in the game on your screen, they will get your attention similar to the way someone talking in real life gets your attention because you can hear it. If you're not constantly looking down at a chat HUD, you can easily miss conversations or attempts at communication.

Chat bubbles are localized communication. You need to watch and be aware, and can only "hear" (IE Read) text in the direction of the speaker.

This creates a huge amount of immersion for the game as you can "see" who is talking without looking at some abstract chat box in the lower left.

CHAT BUBBLES FOR RP PLS!

Darkfall has the best potential to be a good RP game if the devs decide to add some fluff for RP which will encourage more people to RP.

Chat Bubbles is high up on the wish list for me.

UO and SWG (preCU/NGE) was truly encouraging roleplaying. Darkfall can do that too, if the devs want that kind of playerbase.

Sandbox, freedom and skillbased MMO without classes is for me the true RP foundation, all other MMO's like WoW/EQ2 is to themed and everything is preset like enemies, communication and what you can or can't do.

I have to say this game has a lot of potential to be a great RP game in its CURRENT state. It is the closest game I have seen to a graphical mud (Dragon Realms style) that I enjoy playing. Muds do not have graphics so you have to read the text to get emotes, etc. The same can be done here.

The only hindrance on this game is the dumb names, dumb attitudes, and all the swearing, drugs, and sex chat in the different regions that are not moderated in the least. This alone makes this solely an MMO. RPG is nowhere in the picture. What I would love to see is an “RP” server. One server where names and chat are monitored, so I don’t have to see chat about someone named “Poopzonyou”. Heck even if it was only one server that was EU and NA combined, although almost impossible with the two different release companies.

This alone has made a group of us (~75) that have considered coming here weary. Most of us have dreamed of a graphical mud with real consequences with all the beauty Darkfall has to offer. However, we yearn for adventure and not playground chatter that has hid behind the anonymity of the “interwebz” for the last 10 years. Is there really any hope to have at least civilized conversations in this game that are not between only us? Maybe I am just too old school.

Yes oldschool. But that is not bad per definition. Im an old RP´er too but i simply havent found the bunch in this game that has the same state of mind.

Actually, a "RP-server" will not change anything. For a short period of time it may be a bit better, but then the downhill ride begins. Two possible outcomes:

1) RP-server is no different from a normal server, in that OOC chat dominates gaming experience. Example: WOW.

2) Silence. Almost all communication is transferred to group chats, ooc chats, etc, while the normal say channel is almost without any text.

And graphical MUDs ... probably are closer to Neverwinter Nights 1/2, Ultima Online Freeshards than to DFO. And, actually, these are probably the best RP silutions, as long as the principal reason for playing is RP.

I think one should play a game for what it is, not what it could / should be. So, DFO is a great PvP/RvR game with a working PvE part ... but it's just a big hope of a small group of people that it could eventually become a RPG.^^

As always, you may organize your own, personal RP groups, using DFO as a technical platform, but it will not be a "living world", it will just be a technical way to organize.

Visual-only chat bubbles would be really cool.

Also there needs to be an obvious flashing indicator when new private messages are received that doesn't just change the color of someone's name, but adds an additional graphic above the chat box or something. This would allow you to know when you are PM'd when your chat box is already full with PMs.
