Does mucus ever build up in your throat and when you cough it comes out as a green/yellowish slime ball?

Yellow is the color your mucus turns when you have an infection of some sort. One time, I woke up and couldn't hardly breathe from the mucus build-up in my throat, and when I coughed it up it came out as a really thick Big Bird-yellow glob.
