View Full Version : new mount spawning system

To change the current mount system, a new building called a stable will be added. The mount figurines would remain in game, but you would be unable to spawn anywhere in the world. Instead, one would have to visit the stable with the mount figurine in pack, and this would allow you to spawn the mount.

Essentially this would be a compromise between the current system and a perfectly realistic system. Mount figurines will still be stored in the normal bank, so they will be accessible universally and easy to trade, yet this would solve the problem of popping multiple mounts. Ideally there would be a stable in every city, so it would not be difficult to spawn a mount under normal (non combat) circumstances.

Since this forces you to spawn mounts in town, the mount will "know" who it's owner is, perhaps even showing your name when you target it. If you hop on someone else's mount, you will flag gray for 3 minutes, stopping people from jumping on your mounts in town. Additionally, attacking someone else's mount would also flag you gray. After these 3 minutes are up though, you become blue again and the mount's ownership transfers to the new rider.

The most important change here would be to pvp. This would introduce new strategies, as one would no longer be able to ride around on his mount, find a target, dismount and despawn, and then easily hop back on if one needs to escape.

Instead players will have to think about where they want to leave their mounts, and how close to approach a target before dismounting. If you want to raid a town, you might hide them somewhere out of sight, and walk in on foot. If you want to retreat, you will not be able to pull a mount out of your pack and run away, instead you will have to run on foot back to your mount.

Obviously this adds a new element of risk, but again, it means that it will also be more difficult for the defenders to mount up as well. I think this would help discourage the long and boring chases we often come across with the current system.

I was thinking about a more uo-like system, but Darkfall has shown no indication that it can support tamed animals, and who knows what the resources large amounts of mounts (with ai) walking around would require.
