I think we can all agree that mounts are pretty bland While my thread refer to warhorses, in reality it applies to all the mounts.
Right now All mounts are the same, regardless of the tamers skill which is pretty lame. (the tamers skill thing i'm not sure, but afaik its true.)
Perhaps a scaling bonus to the mounts hp would make getting taming to a high skill level would make it more worth funneling steedgrass to one person rather than everyone just buying the skill so they can do it when they need.
Say a scaling bonus of +0% HP at skill 0 in Taming, to 25-50%(for the purpose of this lets say 50%)
At skill 0 -0% bonus
at skill 25 - 10% bonus
at skill 50 - 20% bonus
at skill 75 - 35% bonus
at skill 100 - 50% bonus
( or you can do a straigh scale, but i kinda like the top heavy scale more)
This would increase the value of mounts, but in order for scamming not to occur you'd probably need to be able to make the creators skill level seen on the mount, or its current hp/max hp.
- The Contenty part.
Perhaps it may be a good idea to make different warhorse available at higher skill levels of taming, requiring more items, to make, even armoured mounts!
For example this is my simple vision of how it should be.
Skill 0 -
can craft regular mounts as they are now.
Skill 25 -
Can craft lightly armoured mounts that require 1 Steedgrass, and 5 mount leather modules (crafted by tailor skill 25, for about 40g worth of leather each). The mount would be wearing thick leather armour that is equivalent of wearing a well crafted leather set of armour on a person, this mount has about 10% more hp than a basic mount.
Skill 50 -
Can craft a moderately armoured mount that requires 1 Steed Grass, 10 mount Leather modules (same as above) and 5 Mount armour modules (Crafted by an armour smith 10 ingots each skill 25) The mount would be wearing thick leather armour with some heavy banded armour on, the total protection would be somewhere between Banded and Scale. This mount has about 20% more base hp than a basic mount.
Skill 75
Can craft a Heavily armoured mount that requires 2 Steed grass 10 mount leather modules(Tailor) and 10 Mount armour modules. The mount would be wearing Heavy scale armour, equivalent of well crafted scale. This mount has 30% mmore base hp than a basic mount.
Skill 100
The epitome of mounts, this mount is a juggernaught in armour, capable of damaging city buildings, Encrusted in spikes and heavy plate armour this mount is a terror on the field. 3 Steed grass. 10 leather modules. and 15 Armour modules. This mount has 50% more base hp than a basic mount, and move only 10% fasater than sprinting pace.

armored horses should have like 200-300% more hp
I support the armored mount crafting!
Maybe give them an armor value instead of increased hp

Well if they allow you to only carry 2 mounts max on you, then I would agree with increased hp.

Agree with this Jamboreen. Mounts right now are underpowered. People are more dangerous when they do NOT sit on big feroucious beasts, as the beasts are unwieldly and die easily. I am with you that even the Basic mount needs to be beefed up with both HP and armor... a few Gobbos can kill it off so it is essentially useless in combat. They are usable in PvE but that PvE will grow pretty expensive quite quickly as the Mobs seem to like to hit Mounts more than they hit Players.
And as for PvP... too weak there as well. And unweildly. One get easily outmaneuvred by someone on foot so Mount attacks are not very efficient. Not to mention it is hard to hit people as the one-handed weapons have poor reach as well as that you sit perched up on a big mount, reducing reach even further.
So, Mounts definitely could need a boost... And to make the battlefield even more interesting, let Mounts even have different speed, depending on equipment. Heavy armoured steeds moving slower than lightly armoured ones.
I suggest the following different Mount types:
Basic mount - should need a Saddle (made by Tailors with Riding 25+) for each trained Mount (making life a bit harder on the Tamers, but also increasing the value of the Mount making it possible to boost even the basic mount). Need Taming 1+ to train and consume 1 Steedgrass in training.
Heavy Mount - should have a lot of more hit points as well as heavy armor equal to splint or scale mail to be able to take a lot of damage. Armor should cost about 1000 Gold to buy, or half that in ingredients from a Armorsmith with Riding 25+, and one need also a Saddle. Need Taming 25-50+ to train and consume 2 Steedgrass in training.
Lightly armored mounts - should have a little more hit points than regular mounts. Needs Studded Leather armor with saddle, so it is hardier and well trained in mobility, but not as hardy as the Heavy Mount. Armor should cost about 1000 Gold to buy, or half that in ingredients from a Tailor with Riding 50+, but includes a Saddle. Need Taming 50-75+ to train and consume 2 Steedgrass in training.
Knightly Mounts with Plate Armor - should be the top of the line. A bit slow, like the Heavy Mount, but should be able to stand even a few strikes from a Dragon. Even more Hit Points and heavier armor, that should cost about 2500 Gold to buy, or half that in ingredients for an Armorsmith with Riding 50+, and also needs a Saddle. Needing Taming 75-100 to train and consume 3 Steedgrass in training.
Different Speeds should be:
Mounts should be able to Sprint and have a separate Stamina meter, that drains slowly when Riding at normal speed, and drains faster when Sprinting and doing Mount attacks. Sprinting should also drain more Stamina from the Rider, and if Mount OR Rider Stamina is drained, no more Mount sprinting. (Rider stamina can be boosted by potions and magic, but Mount stamina can only be boosted by resting, so this will be a definite chase limit.)
Light Mount (leather saddle/cloth or Studded leather versions): As current speed, but with Sprint available that is faster.
Heavy mount (Splint/Scale and elite Plate versions): Slower, with Sprinting speed at regular speed, and Sprinting speed slightly faster than Light Mount regular speed.
And on top of this:
Archery while Riding - Only usable when on Light armored (Studded Leather) mount, with a new Mounted Archery skill to determine bow damage, and only Short-bows (that do 30% lesser damage than regular longbows) usable while riding. With Pre-requisites of Riding 50. And of course hintered by heavy armor as regular archery. (Will lose a shooting match with stationary Archers, but still be powerful in a chase or when outnumbering a foe.)
Mounted Magic-use - Anyone able to cast spell while sitting on any Mount, as long as the Mount does not move. Or is moved. Maybe casting the spells a little slower. (They could otherwise just dismount and do it, so it is no greater deal if they can remain seated.)
Include One-handed spears and lances, so we can have proper mounted combat. Suggestion for how to implement that weapon type here:
Poll: Separate Spears from Polearms - Mounted Charge! (http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=179868)
Include Mount Ownership - Let the Mount be Alignment-bound to the one that Summons the mount, so that attacks on the Mount makes attackers go Rogue regardless of whether the rider gets hit or not. (If someone steals the Mount they should also have a Horse-thief status, so that they can be attacked without Alignment loss... for those who care about that.) Having the Mounts labeled by owner name will also make it easier to see who is who on the battlefield, as it is easier to get the Mount in the crosshairs than a rider. Will help a lot, in many different ways.
That should give mounted combat the boost that it needs, and make riders coming in from afar an even more feared sight.:ohno:

I'm more for a summon channeling of about five seconds.
